Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Scar

"Oh my, I really didn't expect this. My carefully prepared first date was seen through just like that."

Along with that slightly teasing sigh, under the wary gazes of the three, the man in red leapt down from the high rooftop like a ghost. Playing cards marked with a black goat head flipped up and down between his hands.

The man slowly raised his head. On his somewhat ruined face, a nearly crazed smile naturally appeared.

"Although your guess is more or less correct, I still want to correct you a little, beautiful lady."

The man slowly approached, carrying a faint sense of pressure and the smell of blood.

"I'm just a small supervisor in the Fractsidus. Of course, you can also call me... Scar."

Just as his voice fell, a dark red frequency silently appeared behind Yangyang like a ghost. Like a ferocious beast slowly opening its massive jaws, it seemed eager to swallow the completely unguarded Yangyang in one bite.

Rover, who had been on guard against Scar's sneak attack the entire time, was the first to notice something was wrong. Her heart tightened, and she hurriedly shouted a warning,

"Yangyang!"

Rover instinctively reached out toward Yangyang, trying to pull her back from danger.

But even so, with one side prepared and the other not, she was still a step too late.

She could only watch helplessly as Yangyang's figure was swallowed by the suddenly appearing "door" right before her eyes, disappearing without a trace.

As Yangyang vanished in front of her, Rover looked at her empty hand. Her golden pupils suddenly shrank as she turned her head with shock and overwhelming anger.

"Scar!"

In the next second, Rover once again saw that beast-like door appear behind the Doctor in the same way.

But this time, she didn't even have time to shout a warning before she could only watch helplessly again as the massive mouth-like door closed, and her friend disappeared before her eyes once more.

Rover instantly drew her sword and pointed it straight at Scar, who was wearing a crazed smile.

"Where did you take them!"

Facing the nearly berserk Rover and her thick, almost tangible killing intent, even Scar put away the pride and madness on his face. Even his gaze became much clearer.

"This is a rare meeting. Those two girls would interfere with your judgment."

"Give them back to me."

Scar's explanation not only failed to earn him even the slightest bit of forgiveness, but if not for worrying about the Doctor and Yangyang's safety, Rover would have already left a scar across his neck.

Although Rover's voice was calm, the unquestionable tone in it made Scar shiver involuntarily.

The Heavenly Rover was truly terrifying.

"Don't worry. For now, I have no intention of making you hate me. So they're very safe."

As Scar spoke, he spread his hands, trying his best to appear harmless.

But beneath that calm, how much tension and fear were hidden was something only Scar himself knew.

"Let's enjoy this moment of being alone first. Forget those unimportant people. After all, I still have a lot I want to say to you."

Although Scar tried his best to show he meant no harm, Rover still took a combat stance, watching him vigilantly.

Seeing that he hadn't persuaded Rover, Scar suddenly felt a bit panicked. If Zane were here, he would probably advise him in a senior tone, when Rover gets angry, the only options are to kneel and admit fault, or offer up your heart or your head.

At this moment, Scar already had the urge to release Yangyang and the Doctor. But that impulse only lasted a few seconds before he suppressed it, 'No, if I beg for mercy now, won't my image completely collapse?'

'No, no, absolutely not. If I go back to the Fractsidus like this, won't everyone laugh at me for a whole year?'

But looking at the bright sword tip pointed at him, Scar knew he couldn't keep dragging this topic any longer.

"I heard you've lost your memory?", Scar carefully observed Rover's expression.

Seeing her slightly furrow her brows, he knew he had successfully changed the subject. Thinking that he wouldn't be executed on the spot, a faint smile appeared on his face.

"Looks like it's true? Makes sense. Otherwise, when you first woke up looking so weak, I really would've doubted the authenticity of those rumors."

"You were following me?" Rover cursed him inwardly as a pervert. Then her brows lifted slightly, and her tense body relaxed a bit.

On the other side, Scar didn't notice Rover's change and continued speaking confidently.

"Don't be so hostile toward me. Since you can sense it, you should know that I'm just one of many spectators. But I'm the only one who's openly come to stand before you."

"When you still knew nothing about this world, you had already become a piece in the game."

Although Scar spoke with certainty and tried to present himself as different from those who schemed against her, Rover knew very well that this was nothing more than rhetoric to gain her trust.

"You also know it clearly. From the moment you opened your eyes, everyone you've met understands your purpose."

"So they can't help but step forward to fight over you. Including those two girls you care about."

Seeing Rover relax, Scar boldly took two steps forward. His earlier arrogance and madness disappeared as he raised his head, putting on a sorrowful expression as if pitying the world.

"This world is just that greedy. It cruelly turns a living person into a functional chess piece. So I'm standing here to tell you the truth. Because I sincerely see you as a friend, and I feel sorry for what you're about to face."

Meeting that sincere gaze, Rover crossed her arms and said mockingly, "So you're just removing yourself from it like that? After all that talk, don't you just want me to join you?"

Seeing his intention exposed, Scar didn't mind at all. He still wore that gentle smile.

"Or rather, I'm looking forward to your choice." As he spoke, Scar walked toward the village and stopped in front of an abandoned house.

"Go take a look at this village, then tell me the truth you see. The more you understand this world, the clearer your inclinations will become. And our game will become… more interesting."

"What did the Fractsidus do to this village?"

Rover crossed her arms and glanced at Scar sideways, but all she got in return was his slightly innocent expression.

"Don't just assume we're the perpetrators. What you should be asking is, what happened in this village?"

In response to his correction, Rover simply shrugged noncommittally. Verbal manipulation couldn't change her stance. She needed to see it with her own eyes.

To see exactly what the Fractsidus had done in this village.
