Chapter 2 - Seeds of Jealousy

Time passed quietly in Jacob's home, but beneath the surface, something was changing.

Yusuf continued to grow, and with him grew a strange calmness that surrounded him wherever he went. He was gentle, thoughtful, and different in a way that could not be easily explained. People felt it before they understood it.

But not everyone felt peace in his presence.

His brothers began to notice something that slowly disturbed their hearts. It was not one single event, but a collection of small moments: the way their father looked at Yusuf, the way he spoke to him more softly, the way his attention seemed to lean toward him without intention.

At first, it was only discomfort.

Then it became comparison.

And slowly… it turned into jealousy.

One evening, as the sun dipped behind the hills and the sky turned orange, the brothers gathered outside the house. Their voices were low, but tense.

"Why him?" one of them said bitterly.

"He is not stronger than us," another replied.

"Yet he is favored…"

Silence followed.

Not one of them said the word out loud, but it was there, hanging between them like a heavy shadow.

Inside the house, Jacob sat with Yusuf, listening to him speak softly about a dream he could not fully explain. Jacob's face remained calm, but his eyes carried a depth of understanding… and worry.

Far away from them, the brothers watched through the open doorway.

And in that moment, something shifted.

Jealousy, once small and harmless, began to take root. Not as action yet… but as thought.

And thoughts, once planted, rarely remain still.

Yusuf, unaware of the storm forming around him, continued to live in his quiet world of dreams and questions.

But outside that world… the seeds had already been planted.
