Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 – Shadows of Bloodline (1884)

The night air was thick with a mist that clung to the cobblestones like a living thing. Jonathan's footsteps echoed through the empty alleyways of Windgrave, each step a reminder that his family's enemies moved closer with every passing hour. The sword at his side pulsed faintly, the Hamon energy coursing through the hilt like a heartbeat. It wasn't merely a weapon—it was a bond, a legacy, and a warning all in one.

From the shadows, a low hiss cut through the silence. Jonathan's eyes narrowed. He had faced the occasional thief and vagrant in these streets, but this was different. The figure that emerged had an aura of malice that twisted the very air around it. The enemy of his bloodline had arrived.

"You've grown, Jonathan," the voice slithered out, dripping with disdain. "But strength alone won't save you from your fate."

Jonathan tightened his grip on the sword. He could feel the Hamon respond, tendrils of light weaving up his arm as if acknowledging the threat. "I am not bound by fate," he said evenly. "I carve my own path."

The figure lunged, moving with unnatural speed. Jonathan's reflexes, honed through years of training, allowed him to deflect the first strike. Sparks erupted where Hamon met dark steel, and the alleyway lit up in a brief, blinding flare. He countered with a sweeping strike, feeling the energy pulse through him, sharp and alive.

But the enemy was not ordinary. Each attack he parried seemed calculated, as if the figure had anticipated Jonathan's every movement. The battle became a blur of motion, a dance of light and shadow, until Jonathan realized the truth: this was no ordinary duel. This was a test, a crucible meant to gauge not only his strength but the strength of his resolve.

With a sudden, desperate surge, Jonathan channeled all of his Hamon into a single strike, aiming not just to wound, but to drive the darkness back. The air crackled, the sound of energy colliding with malice echoing like a war drum. And in that instant, Jonathan understood that this fight was only the beginning.
