Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Shizuka Marikawa and the Snowball Beasts

Busujima Dojo.

Saeko Busujima sat in perfect seiza on the wooden floor, moonlight pouring over her like liquid silver.

Her long purple hair caught the glow, sparkling like scattered stars and making her look like a goddess who had stepped straight out of the Moon Palace—cool, elegant, untouchable.

But inside, her heart was anything but calm.

It was like she'd been hit by King Crimson. She had zero memory of walking home or how she even got back to the dojo.

All she remembered was finishing her conversation with Shuya, taking the parchment from his hand in a daze, and clutching it the entire way back until she finally snapped out of it inside her own home.

"The meaning of life…? Truly living…?"

Saeko lowered her head, staring straight ahead as she whispered the words.

To her left on the floor lay the white oak practice sword she always carried for self-defense.

To her right sat the parchment Shuya had given her.

She had already read the contract at least ten times.

She understood that the moment she signed her name, she would be handed a ticket to the hidden world he spoke of.

Yet she still hadn't signed.

It wasn't because the conditions were harsh.

Actually, the opposite—they were almost too lenient.

She couldn't help but wonder if this was supposed to be some kind of marriage dowry.

"Entrust your future to me…"

Just remembering the way Shuya had said those words made her cheeks burn hot.

If anyone from school saw her right now, they'd be shocked speechless.

The usual ice-cold, untouchable goddess of Fujimi Academy—blushing like a lovestruck schoolgirl?

"Shuya… you really are playing dirty, you know that?"

Saeko gently touched her flushed cheeks, eyes misty as she gazed at the parchment and let out a soft sigh.

It took several long minutes before her expression finally returned to its usual calm.

Then, with a decisive motion, she snatched up the contract, raised her elegant hand, and signed her name without hesitation.

"If Shuya-kun is willing to accept someone as tainted as me… then I'll gladly hand my future over to you."

...

Meanwhile, on the other side of town.

After parting ways with Saeko, Shuya had just gotten home.

He had to admit—after living in this world for over a year, some of the local habits had definitely rubbed off on him.

Case in point…

"I'm home~"

The second he slid open the front door and stepped into the genkan, the words came out completely naturally.

"Meep!" "Meep!"

Before he could even kick off his shoes, two fluffy white blurs shot down the hallway like missiles and slammed straight into him.

Shuya's hands moved on pure instinct—one left, one right—catching both of the incoming white projectiles.

Up close, the two "white balls" were actually living, adorable little creatures.

"Meep~" "Meep~"

The moment they landed in his arms, they let out happy cat-like sounds and started rubbing against him affectionately.

These two fluffy cuties had the perfect name to match their looks: Snowball Beasts.

A lot of people might not recognize the name.

So here's the other one they go by:

In-Training Angewomon.

Yep. Those Digimon.

Don't get the wrong idea—Shuya wasn't some chosen child.

He wished he was, but who the hell gets chosen at eighteen?

Besides, this world didn't even have a Digital World.

The appearance of the Snowball Beasts had actually caught Shuya off guard too.

Even though they had the same abilities and evolution potential as the ones from Digimon, these two weren't pure Digimon.

They were Nen Beasts born from Nen itself.

One had appeared when Shizuka Marikawa awakened her Emission-type Nen after signing his contract.

The other had been born the moment Shuya synchronized with her ability.

Gotta love how the 2D world works—dumb girls really do get all the luck.

In anime, the author always gives special treatment to ditzy characters.

(Okay, total idiots are the exception.)

In the real world, that translates to these girls being straight-up beloved by fate.

While Shuya had to grind his ass off—training Nen the hard way, setting up strict Vows and Limitations, carefully picking contractors—Shizuka Marikawa just waltzed in, got her Emission Nen and a Snowball Beast handed to her on a silver platter.

She didn't even have to train. Just feed her little beast some aura every day and boom—one day she'd wake up with a full-powered Angewomon ready to kick ass.

Who do you even complain to about that?

Shuya grinned and ruffled the fluffy heads of both Snowball Beasts.

"Weird… did Shizuka-nee forget to feed you guys today? Whatever…"

He shook his head, not overthinking it, and created two small orbs of aura in his palms before tossing them over.

"Meep~!" "Meep~!"

The Snowball Beasts' eyes lit up like Christmas lights. They immediately pounced on the aura orbs and started chomping away happily.

Shuya left the two little gluttons to their feast, slipped on his indoor slippers, and headed inside.

He quickly spotted the gorgeous figure sprawled across the living-room sofa.

The blonde beauty was fast asleep, her perfect body on full display. Golden hair spilled messily across the cushions and onto the floor.

Her massive, snow-white breasts were straining hard against the thin white shirt she wore, squeezed together and looking like two heavy, bouncy water balloons pulled down by gravity.

She must have heard him come in.

Her long lashes fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes, revealing a pair of clear, sparkling golden irises that looked like fresh mountain spring water.

She had the face of a college girl who had just graduated—like the kind of woman who made everyone who saw her immediately think:

Yeah… this girl doesn't seem all that bright.

Her name was Shizuka Marikawa—the ditzy, big-breasted blonde school nurse from Highschool of the Dead.

She was also the very first person Shuya met after transmigrating into this world.

And his very first contractor.

"Little Shuya, you're back~?"

Shizuka rubbed her sleepy eyes, then looked over at him with a playful smile.

She tilted her head cutely, pressed one finger to her chin, and said in a teasing singsong voice:

"So, little Shuya… do you want dinner first? A bath first? Or…"

"Me~ first~?"
