Chapter 3 - 3: Settling in

The first weeks were not dramatic.

They were quiet.

And that silence was more profound than any war.

I spent days integrating the inherited memories. Reviewing fleet doctrines. Inspecting production logs. Walking through Thalora's agricultural districts personally.

The three governors met me in the capital.

Selene Castellan — calm, analytical — oversaw Volturnia's aquaculture and underwater tech-mining operations.

Sylvia Castellan — pragmatic and decisive — governed Droskar's mining megacomplex and the fuel production.

Stella Castellan — strategic and disciplined — directed Tyralon's orbital works and volatile extraction. The forge of my empire.

All three had been rescued in the prior timeline. Trained personally. Augmented with Alpha Core–based hypercognition implants — tightly regulated and loyalty-bound.

Their minds operated at computational speeds beyond baseline human capacity.

They were not tools.

They were pillars.

Based on my new memories I felt a brotherly affection towards them. They have been my earliest companions in the Starsector memories. They have been with me since I was piloting a frigate up until I build my one solar system empire. They each took a colony to govern while I stayed on Thalora the terran world of my empire and it's capital.

They were girls without last names, but they decided to take on a new family name for themselves, therefore becoming sisters in all but blood.

I informed them of the situation carefully.

A new universe, where we were alone. Let them know that I have been chosen by a higher entity to pioneer this universe and extract new worlds for it and expand it.

For now there were no:

No external factions.

No Hegemony inspections.

No Luddic Path cells.

No pirate raids.

I would bring other civilizations in the future, but Helion Empire will always be my home and bastion and I would protect it even from those civilizations I brought.

Scepticism flickered briefly — but the System ensured stability. Loyalty remained intact.

Fleet Admiral Helene Asbjorn joined shortly after.

My sole officer from the previous memories. Another one of my earliest companions. She joined my shortly after I meet Selene, Sylvia and Stella. She was always a combat oriented woman, that saw my vision of an independent empire and decided to believe in it.

Peak combat optimization.

Every tactical doctrine internalized.

She did not question.

She assessed.

Then nodded once.

"If there are no external threats," she said calmly, "we build properly."

Population redistribution began almost immediately.

Originally one million per colony.

But with no external pressure, migration to Thalora accelerated. People preferred breathable air and open skies.

I permitted relocation freely — with the condition that critical industries remained fully staffed.

Helion Dominion remained self-sufficient.

Four million citizens.

Two systems.

One colonized but still in an infant stage and one ripe for taking in the future.

No enemies.

I refrained from deploying additional Alpha cores beyond those already embedded. There was no external threat — but discipline mattered.

I toured Solane via remote projection and fleet flyby.

A virgin system.

Verdantia's jungles shimmered under orange light.

Pyraxis glowed with molten fractures.

Elura rotated serenely.

I chose restraint.

Helion would mature first.

Four million was nothing for a terran superstructure planet with around 1.5 Earth radii.

We would grow.

Carefully.

Strategically.

I instructed the governors to begin drafting long-term expansion projections — population curves, industrial scaling models, potential Solane colonization sequences for the far off future.

I would not repeat mistakes of overextension.

In time, other civilizations may be introduced.

Other empires allowed to exist independently.

But Helion would remain my core.

My sanctuary.

My proving ground.

As I stood overlooking Thalora's illuminated continents one evening, a familiar crystalline chime echoed in the air.

A translucent window materialized before me.

Mission Initialized.

The first ripple in a silent universe.
