Chapter 22: Exceeding Expectations, The Premature Leaking of the School's Truth

Chabashira Sae had just stepped into the classroom, her gaze sweeping across the students.

The students' behavior seemed somewhat different than before. Hirata Yosuke's gaze quickly collided with Chabashira Sae's.

"Chabashira-sensei, I have a question I'd like to ask you."

Hirata's expression was serious, and his tone was somewhat urgent.

"Oh? Go ahead."

Chabashira Sae looked at Hirata Yosuke with great interest.

"Sensei, will the points we receive every month thereafter always be one hundred thousand? Does our daily behavior affect the acquisition of points? Is the school always..."

Hirata threw a string of questions in front of Chabashira Sae.

Hearing his words, Chabashira Sae narrowed her eyes slightly, and the corners of her mouth curled into an upward arc.

"How did you come to that conclusion?"

The moment she entered the classroom, Chabashira Sae could sense that the atmosphere of the class had undergone a slight change. Hirata then recounted all the various details that Katsuragi Keima had told him earlier.

The smile on Chabashira Sae's face seemed to become even more pronounced. These students had given her quite a few surprises. Originally, she thought the entire Class D would simply fall into depravity and let their class points be completely deducted to zero.

In the first month of school, a "test" had actually already begun. The teachers would not interfere much with the students, nor would they proactively disclose the truth; every move the students made would affect the "Class Points."

Class Points, in other words, were the ratings for each class. They not only dictated the ranking between different classes but also influenced the number of points students received each month. This was the truth of the S-System hidden within the school.

Although the initial points for each class were the same, the four classes—A, B, C, and D—were actually a ranking and classification of the students' comprehensive quality. Chabashira Sae believed that, following this trajectory, these students would have caused the class points to hit zero in less than half a month.

She had not expected that in just a few short days since the start of school, someone in Class D had already perceived this rule.

Was it Hirata Yosuke who discovered it? No, Hirata's comprehensive quality was indeed relatively excellent, but Chabashira Sae did not believe he was the one who found it.

Was it Ayanokouji Kiyotaka? Or Katsuragi Keima?

Chabashira Sae cast her gaze toward the back row. Ayanokouji Kiyotaka was merely propping up his head with his hand, looking out the window with an incredibly lethargic gaze. Meanwhile, Katsuragi Keima was, as usual, fully engrossed in his game, as if this topic had absolutely nothing to do with him.

Chabashira Sae withdrew her gaze and let it fall back on Hirata Yosuke's face, which was written all over with anxiety. Hirata felt his heart beating faster; in his mind, he desperately hoped that Katsuragi Keima's deduction was wrong.

However, the words spoken by Chabashira Sae dragged him back to cold reality.

"You are correct."

Chabashira Sae gave her answer. She had originally thought these "defective products" would only discover the school's rules on the 1st of next month when they had no point income. Since the students had already noticed something, she admitted it directly.

Hearing Chabashira Sae's words, Hirata felt as if he had been struck by a bolt from the blue, while several students nearby looked at the teacher in disbelief.

"Wh-what?"

"Does that mean... we won't get one hundred thousand points next month?"

"Then how much can we get?"

Horikita Suzune also crossed her arms, her brow locked in a tight frown. Although she had already heard these things from Katsuragi Keima and believed the probability was very high, a slight ripple still stirred in her heart upon receiving a positive confirmation from Chabashira Sae's mouth.

This school... was indeed not simple.

"Why, why didn't you tell us sooner?!" Yamauchi Haruki looked at the teacher with a face full of astonishment.

"Tell you? Why should I tell you? Do you students truly believe, in your naivety, that you can spend one hundred thousand points every month without limit? Anyone who uses their brain even a little would know that's impossible."

The smile completely vanished from Chabashira Sae's face, replaced by a coldness. A coldness as if she were looking at trash.

"Why didn't you perceive the problem? It was said during the entrance ceremony, wasn't it? Our school upholds the principle of meritocracy. Those one hundred thousand points were obtained based on the 'ability' evaluated at your enrollment. And now, you lazy lot no longer possess that much value."

As she spoke, Chabashira Sae took out a marker and wrote a string of text on the classroom whiteboard.

"This is the school's S-System. it evaluates students in real-time and converts that into point values—these are Class Points. However, you aren't bad; in just a few short days, you've already had a considerable amount of Class Points deducted, far exceeding the other classes. Every class starts with 1,000 base points, and you have already lost 300 points in less than a week."

Listening to the teacher's words, Horikita Suzune couldn't help but bite her lip. A sense of frustration began to breed in the depths of her heart. She tilted her head and looked at Katsuragi Keima.

He never once lifted his head. Were these matters of no consequence to him as well?

"Sensei, at the very least, please tell us the detailed reasons for the increase and decrease of points," Hirata Yosuke said to Chabashira Sae, struggling to calm his emotions.

"Just like the real world, it employs a personnel performance evaluation. I cannot disclose the specific contents of the evaluation." A faint, trace amount of a smile returned to Chabashira Sae's face. "I originally thought your points would be wiped out in less than half a month. It seems there is still someone with a bit of a brain among you."

"Then may I ask... is there a chance to earn back the points?" Kushida Kikyo raised her hand and followed up.

"There is. As long as you can obtain more points than Class C, they will be demoted to Class D. Depending on test results, you can obtain up to 100 points—however, let me tell you one more thing. While there are usually small quizzes, starting from the midterm exams, anyone who fails any official exam thereafter will be summarily expelled."

"Expelled?!"

Seeing the expression of fear surface on almost all the students' faces, the smile on Chabashira Sae's face seemed to become even more apparent.

"Since you've understood, let's begin today's test content."

Meanwhile, the fingers Katsuragi Keima used to play his handheld did not slow down in the slightest, as if none of this had anything to do with him.
