Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1 - The Night of Ashes

King Kael of Skyblood was born in war and baptized in fire.

Long before tragedy carved itself into his chest, he was known as The Storm Wolf—a warrior king whose very presence bent battlefields to silence, his inner beast, Rokhan was a legend: massive, silver-black fur streaked with lightning shaped marked eyes that glowed with molten gold. He was so powerful that entire armies bowed at the rumble of his growl.

Under Kael's rule, Skyblood thrived. He rebuilt ruined borders, forged uneasy alliances with once-hostile packs, and turned foes into reluctant allies. He was well loved by his subjects for his fairness and ferocity. His justice was swift, his mercy rare but meaningful, and many whispered that the Moon Goddess herself guided his path.

At the center of his world was Aria.

His mate. His light. The woman who softened his storms. Where Kael commanded fear, Aria inspired devotion. She walked with grace and charm and was equally loved by her people.

Together, they were balance. Together, they were unstoppable—until the night of the Blood Moon.

Everything was still, peaceful—until the first scream tore through the night.

Alpha King Kael Bloodborne sensed it before he heard it. His wolf, Rokhan, surged violently within him, the fur on his spirit form bristling as the scent of blood filled the air. Not just any blood—hers.

Kael sprinted through the palace hallways, bare-chested, breathing hard. Torches flickered as he passed, the flames reacting to the surge of raw wolf energy pulsing from him. The guards he raced past immediately knew something was wrong and joined the chase, but Kael saw none of them. There was only one sound he chased—the rapid, breaking heartbeat of his mate.

"Aria," he whispered, fear tightening around his throat.

He reached the royal garden and slammed the doors open.

And his world ended.

Queen Aria lay on the floor, her golden hair spread like a fallen halo. Blood pooled beneath her, seeping into the cracks of the garden she loved, staining the place where life once bloomed under her care.

She was still alive—just barely.

Kael dropped to his knees, gathering her into his arms. "Aria! Stay with me. Stay—please—do not close your eyes."

Her body trembled, fragile, slipping.

She reached up with a trembling hand, touching his cheek with a softness that broke him. "Kael… the shadows… they were here." Her breath hitched. "Find them."

Kael's vision blurred, the world collapsing into the weight of her in his arms.

Rokhan howled a sound of pure, unrestrained agony inside him.

Aria drew one last, fragile breath. Her gaze fixed on him with a mixture of love, sorrow, and something unspoken lingering in its depths.

And then… nothing.

The bond snapped.

The moon flickered. The air stilled as silence swallowed the garden.

And Kael broke.

He let out a roar so powerful it shook the garden walls, his pain echoing across the kingdom, through every pack, every den, and every soul bound to his rule, as the woman who was once the heartbeat of Skyblood turned limp in his arms.
