Chapter 7 - Chp 7: Enter Team 1

As I walked onto the training field with Shisui and Might Guy, I knew today wasn't just another day of exercises.

This was our first real test as a team.

Shikaku-sensei was already there, leaning casually against a tree. Despite being a Jonin, there was something different about him not like our fathers, or the other adults I'd known. His eyes were sharp, observant, and patient… as if they were waiting for us to make mistakes.

"Good morning, children," he said calmly. "I am Shikaku Nara. You are my team. Today, we begin learning how to work together, how to understand one another as shinobi and most importantly, how to think."

I grinned. "Yes, sensei! I'm Shinji Uchiha, and I'm ready to give this everything I've got!"

Shisui stepped forward and bowed slightly. "Shisui Uchiha. Likewise, sensei. I'm ready to learn."

Might Guy, of course, skipped formality entirely. He leapt into the center of the field, striking a dramatic pose.

"I AM MIGHT GUY! THE EMBODIMENT OF YOUTHFUL VIGOR! I SHALL TEACH YOU THE WAY OF STRENGTH!"

I blinked. Shisui snorted quietly.

"This guy really is something."

Shikaku didn't flinch. He simply nodded.

"Impressive enthusiasm, Guy. But if you don't learn to control that energy, it will get you killed."

Guy spun dramatically.

"THEN LET THE BONDS OF YOUTH IGNITE! SHINJI! SHISUI! WE SHALL GROW STRONG TOGETHER!"

I laughed. "Alright. Let's do this."

"Before we begin," Shikaku said, "I want to understand each of you. Shinji, go first."

I straightened. "Yes, sensei. Likes: training, helping people, learning new jutsu… and reading. Dislikes: injustice, losing, being powerless. Hobbies include sparring, running, and strategy. My goal is to become a shinobi strong enough to protect everyone I care about."

Shikaku's eyes narrowed slightly. "Noted. Shisui?"

Shisui's voice was calm and measured.

"Likes: training, analysis, improvement. Dislikes: arrogance and inefficiency. Hobbies: ninjutsu practice and observing the village. My goal is to protect the village and those important to me."

Shikaku nodded. "Guy?"

Guy jumped again.

"LIKES: TRAINING, YOUTH, PASSION! DISLIKES: LAZINESS AND NEGATIVITY! HOBBIES: TRAINING, MORE TRAINING, MOTIVATING OTHERS! GOAL: TO BECOME THE STRONGEST SHINOBI!"

Shikaku regarded us evenly.

"Very well. Today's test will measure teamwork, adaptability, and intelligence."

He raised two bronze bells, letting them jingle softly.

"This is the bell test. Take a bell from me, and you succeed. But understand this is not a test of strength. Alone, you will fail. Together, you might succeed."

Guy's eyes gleamed.

"A TEST OF STRENGTH! I ACCEPT!"

I studied the bells, then glanced at Shisui.

"Sensei… is this purely combat?"

Shikaku's lips curved faintly.

"It is a test of how you think. Observe. Analyze. Coordinate."

Shisui met my gaze.

"He's already predicting us."

"Then we adapt," I whispered. "Together."

The test began.

Shikaku moved as if he already knew our intentions. Every attempt was met with a sidestep, a turn, a perfectly timed block. Guy charged head-on, roaring with enthusiasm but Shikaku avoided him effortlessly.

Shisui circled carefully.

"He's reading us before we move."

I clenched my jaw.

"Then we stop being predictable."

We tried combinations of Shisui distracting, me pressing forward, Guy attacking relentlessly but every move was countered.

"This is rough," I muttered between breaths. "Sensei's too smart."

Shisui smiled faintly.

"It's a puzzle. And we're forcing the wrong solution."

Guy laughed, panting.

"FAILURE ONLY MAKES YOUTH STRONGER!"

I chuckled despite myself.

"He's not wrong."

Twenty minutes passed.

Not a single bell touched.

Shikaku placed the bells on a stand and crossed his arms.

"Congratulations," he said mildly. "You failed."

He gestured to each of us.

"You are strong but predictable. You are clever but uncoordinated." His eyes settled on me. "And you, Shinji… you are brave and impulsive. Not reckless but you underestimate foresight."

I bowed, breathing hard. "Understood, sensei."

Shisui nodded. "We were outmaneuvered. That was… valuable."

Guy pumped a fist.

"EXCELLENT! THE PATH OF YOUTH GROWS STEEPER!"

Shikaku's mouth twitched.

"A shinobi fights with mind, body, and heart. Today, you used two. I will teach you the third."

Later, resting in the shade, Guy bounced in place.

"TOMORROW WE TRAIN HARDER!"

I laughed. "With Shikaku-sensei guiding us or we're just kids with potential."

Shisui nodded.

"Teamwork means understanding your leader as much as your teammates."

As we walked back toward the village, I felt it clearly.

Shisui was my balance.

Guy was our momentum.

Shikaku-sensei was our mind.

Together… maybe we really could become something more.

And one thing was certain.

I wasn't going to fail again.

Not today.

Not ever.
