Chapter 60 - Chp 60

Evening settled gently over Konohagakure.

Warm light spilled from the windows of the Uchiha compound as cicadas hummed softly in the summer air. The war had ended months ago, yet the village still carried a quiet tension beneath its calm.

Inside the Uchiha household, however, the mood was peaceful.

For once.

A small cradle sat near the center of the room.

Inside it, a newborn slept quietly.

Tiny breaths.

Small fists curled against a blanket.

The newest member of the family.

Sasuke Uchiha.

Near the cradle stood Mikoto Uchiha, gently adjusting the blanket around the infant.

Across the room, Fugaku Uchiha sat with his arms folded, though the usual stern expression he wore around clan members had softened slightly.

A rare sight.

Leaning against the wall nearby, Shisui Uchiha watched the baby curiously.

"…He's tiny."

Shinji, seated on the floor beside the low table, snorted quietly.

"They're usually like that."

Shisui shrugged.

"I've never seen one up close before."

Shinji raised an eyebrow.

"You grew up in a clan compound."

"Yeah," Shisui replied. "But most of the babies stayed inside the houses."

He leaned closer to the cradle.

"…He looks angry."

At that moment the baby scrunched his face slightly.

Shinji smirked.

"See?"

Mikoto laughed softly.

"He's not angry."

She gently lifted the infant from the cradle.

"He's just hungry."

Across the room, an older man watched the scene with quiet amusement.

His lined face carried the calm wisdom of someone who had lived through decades of war and leadership.

Hiruzen Sarutobi held a cup of tea in one hand.

The former Hokage had been invited personally by Fugaku.

Though most of the village still referred to him respectfully as "Lord Third," tonight he sat not as a leader of the Hidden Leaf—

But as a guest.

And as Shinji's teacher.

Hiruzen took a slow sip of tea before glancing toward Shinji.

"You've grown quiet."

Shinji shrugged slightly.

"Just thinking."

Shisui immediately grinned.

"That's a bad sign."

Shinji rolled his eyes.

"Relax."

Hiruzen chuckled softly.

"I remember when you two were genin."

Shisui groaned dramatically.

"Please don't start telling old stories."

"Oh?"

Hiruzen smiled.

"You mean the time you both got lost during a basic reconnaissance mission?"

Shinji sighed.

"We weren't lost."

Shisui pointed at him.

"We were absolutely lost."

Fugaku raised an eyebrow.

"My son got lost on a mission?"

Shinji immediately pointed at Shisui.

"His fault."

"Traitor," Shisui muttered.

Mikoto laughed again.

The quiet warmth of the room felt almost unreal compared to the battlefield.

Two fifteen-year-olds.

Both already jonin.

Both veterans of the Third Great Ninja War.

And yet here they were arguing about getting lost as genin.

Hiruzen's eyes softened slightly as he watched them.

For a moment he seemed to be remembering something far away.

Then Mikoto approached him.

The baby rested gently in her arms.

"Lord Third," she said warmly.

Hiruzen blinked.

"Yes?"

Mikoto knelt slightly beside him.

"There's something we wanted to tell you."

Fugaku stood as well.

The clan head rarely showed emotion, but tonight his voice carried a rare sincerity.

"We've decided on the baby's name."

Shisui leaned forward immediately.

"Finally."

Shinji crossed his arms.

"You took long enough."

Mikoto looked down at the baby.

Then back at Hiruzen.

"We named him Sasuke."

For a brief moment—

The room was silent.

Hiruzen's eyes widened slightly.

"Sasuke…?"

Mikoto nodded.

"Yes."

Fugaku continued.

"It is in honor of your father."

The old Hokage froze for a moment.

Memories seemed to pass across his face like distant shadows.

The legendary shinobi Sasuke Sarutobi had been one of the greatest warriors of his generation.

A man revered throughout the Land of Fire.

And the man who had raised Hiruzen himself.

Hiruzen looked down at the sleeping infant.

"…That is a great honor."

Mikoto smiled softly.

"We thought it was fitting."

Fugaku nodded once.

"Your guidance has helped both our clan and the village."

Hiruzen remained quiet for a moment longer.

Then he reached out gently and placed a hand on the baby's blanket.

"…Sasuke."

The baby shifted slightly in his sleep.

Shisui leaned over Shinji and whispered,

"Think he'll grow up strong?"

Shinji glanced at the sleeping infant.

Then back at Shisui.

"With this family?"

Shisui grinned.

"Fair point."

Hiruzen slowly stood.

His gaze lingered on the child for one final moment.

"A strong name," he said quietly.

"A name worthy of a great shinobi."

Outside the house, the night deepened over Konohagakure.

The village lights flickered gently beneath the Hokage Monument.

Peaceful.

Quiet.

Unaware that soon

Everything would change.
