Chapter 2 - Preface

Before the time of the Four Kings, the land now known as Barivia was nothing more than different nomadic peoples who fought for resources and survival. As time passed, survival became increasingly more difficult as creatures known as Dracculli started to feast and hunt on the people. Four hundred years of sacrifice and enslavement would pass under Dracculli rule. Their immortal leader, Regele Palid, was merciless to the conquered races, only showing "grace" to a select few. By some coincidence, four children were illegitimately brought into the world the same night under the star of change: Y'sdria. Being half Dracculli, they were labeled as "nepura" by the sangepura Dracculli and were outcast and forced to work the fields and mines. As each day passed, they witnessed the peoples' oppression, building their animosity for their illegitimate father. On their eighteenth birthday, the four nepura made their move. Gathering their peoples' strength, they lead a rebellion to overthrow the Dracculli rule. After forty nights, Regele was defeated. The four nepura separated the Dracculli Leader into four and sealed those pieces into artifacts to prevent him from ever returning. The first born took the head and sealed it into a ghastly helm. The second took the heart and sealed it into a shield that depicted a gorhalva's gaping maw. The third sealed the body into a ring of armour. The fourth sealed the leader's soul into a silver sword. Each artifact was changed after it accepted a piece of the cruel tyrant, turning an iridescent black and crimson. This began the era of the Four kings and it was time bountiful merriment and peace. However, the artifacts and the four kingdoms became lost to time; only spoken of in legend and rumor...though, all may not be truly lost. Now, almost two thousand years later, Barivia is a divided continent with bustling cities and thriving peoples and cultures.
