Chapter 8 - CHAPTER 7 Getting Ready

A few weeks left until back to school. My days were slowly becoming busier.

Before, during vacation, I had almost nothing to do. Now, there were so many things I had to prepare.

We needed to buy school supplies.

One morning, Amari sent a message in our group chat.

"Girls, when are we going to buy school supplies?" she asked.

Ophelia replied quickly.

"We can go today. I'm free."

I read their messages while still lying on my bed.

"Okay, let's go buy them at the mall," I replied.

"Okay! See you there this afternoon," Amari said.

After that, I got up and got ready. Even though it was just a simple shopping trip for school supplies, I felt excited because I would finally have money again at school. It was such a small thing, but it made me look forward to going back.

In the afternoon, we met at the mall.

I arrived first, so I waited near the entrance. A few minutes later.

Ophelia arrived.

"You're early," she said.

"You're just always late," I said, laughing.

"Where's Amari?" she asked.

"I don't know. Maybe she's late again," I said.

A few minutes later, Amari came running toward us, slightly out of breath.

"Sorry!" she said.

"You're really late," Ophelia teased.

"There was traffic," she explained.

Ophelia and I looked at each other and laughed.

"You always have an excuse," I said.

"Okay, let's start shopping," Amari said.

We entered a bookstore inside the mall. It was full of students also buying supplies.

"There are so many people," Ophelia said, looking around.

"Back to school is near," I said.

We grabbed a basket and started looking for what we needed.

While walking around the store, we talked about everything.

"What color is your notebook?" Amari asked.

"Simple. Maybe black or blue," I said.

"You're so boring," she said.

"What about you? Pink with glitter?" I teased.

Ophelia laughed.

"That would suit her," she said, pointing at Amari.

"Hey!" Amari said, laughing too.

We picked notebooks, pens, highlighters, and other things one by one.

I found a notebook with a simple design but a nice color. I put it in my basket.

"That's nice," Ophelia said.

"Simple," I said.

"It suits you," she added.

Meanwhile, Amari was busy choosing colorful highlighters.

"You're buying so many," I said.

"I like colorful ones," she said.

"You don't even take notes," Ophelia said.

The three of us laughed.

After buying school supplies, we went to look for bags.

"Girls, look at this," Amari said, holding a bag.

"It's too big," Ophelia said.

"You look like you're going on a trip," I added.

She laughed again.

In the end, I chose a new bag. Simple design, but I liked it immediately.

After paying, we decided to eat at the food court.

We sat at a table, eating and chatting.

"Are you ready for back to school?" Ophelia asked.

"Not yet," Amari said. "I don't want to wake up early again."

"Same," I said.

They looked at me.

"But I am a little excited too," I added.

"Why?" Amari asked.

"Because I'll finally have money again," I said, laughing

The rest of the afternoon passed quickly. We walked around the mall a little, laughed at small things, and just enjoyed being together. Even though it was only shopping for school, it felt like a mini adventure.

When evening came, we decided it was time to go home before it got too late. On the way home, I held my phone in my hands and thought about the day and about finally having pocker money again ain.

Once I got home, I organized my new supplies neatly on my desk. Then I lay on my bed, holding my phone. The room was quiet. I opened my chat with Sevi.

I paused for a moment before typing.

"Hi."

He replied soon after.

"Hey."

I smiled seeing his name.

"What did you do today?" I asked.

"We bought school supplies," he said.

I smiled more.

"Same. I was with my friends," I said.

"Amari and Ophelia?" he asked.

"Yes," I replied.

We continued talking about what we bought.

"Are you excited for school?" he asked.

"A little. You?"

"Not really," he said.

"Why?"

"Because we have to wake up early again," he said.

I laughed softly.

"Same."

The conversation was short and simple, but it made my night feel lighter.

Before ending the chat, he sent one last message.

"You should sleep. You might be tired."

I looked at it for a moment and replied.

"You too."

I placed my phone beside my pillow. Looking at the ceiling, I couldn't stop smiling. S

ometimes, even a simple chat at night is enough to feel that someone is thinking about you too.

I slowly closed my eyes. The last thought before sleep was

Sevi.
