Chapter 1 - The Great End

- So... I failed the promise

I said out loud through the microphone while looking at the bullet wound that pierced my stomach, and even though I don't have the power to see through skin I can clearly feel how that bullet managed to go through vital parts, so much so that I don't doubt that even if I went to a doctor I would die.

- ...Mark? … Did I really hit you? ... Mark, please tell me this is a joke

Kevin's voice sounded shaken through the earpiece, and honestly I understand why, after all I know perfectly well that neither of them wants me dead, but a blood promise is a promise till the end.

- I wish it were a joke, my friend, but unfortunately it ain't

I said as my characteristic smile formed on my face because of how ironic all of this was.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I'm frustrated or anything about my imminent death, honestly I find it ironic that I'm the one who's going to die, I guess in the end death decided to take this world's favorite *laughs internally*

- …shit, SHIT, SHIT! HOLD ON PLEASE! I'M ON MY WAY! DON'T LET YOURSELF DIE NO MATTER WHAT!

Miguel said, and honestly now that I hear him it makes me wonder how close that crazy cultist really is to me.

Speaking of cults, I guess there really aren't any all-powerful satanic beings on the other side, because if they truly existed I would have come out unharmed from that attack.

Don't get me wrong, I never made any deal with any being beyond comprehension or anything like that, It's just that knowing Miguel as I do the promises he made using my own soul with all those demons/gods/beings beyond understanding were meant to give me some sort of eternal life

- MARK! HEY ANSWER ME! PLEASE ANSWER ME!

- I'm here, don't worry, I'm not dead yet… though I won't be able to keep saying that for long

Damn I hadn't noticed Miguel was talking to me, I guess I had lost consciousness for a while.

- DAMN IT! IF I HAD KNOWN I'D END UP SHOOTING YOU I WOULD HAVE ABANDONED THE PROMISE A LONG TIME AGO!

Kevin shouted between sobs before breaking down crying, and honestly hearing him cry makes me feel bad.

- Hey… calm down, Kevin... The three of us know… that if you hadn't… fulfilled this promise… I would have… committed suicide… a long time ago

Damn it, it started getting hard to speak continuously.

*BAM*

- MARK! FOR FUCK'S SAKE TELL ME YOU'RE STILL WITH US!

Miguel arrived, I think he broke the rooftop door of this building with that kick and hopefully he has the money to fix it later.

- Hey...

I greeted him with a mocking grin while raising the hand that covered my wound in a sarcastic salute, and even though I tried to make it smooth, I have to admit it was incredibly hard to move.

- DAMN IT! HOLD ON A LITTLE LONGER THE AMBULANCE IS ALREADY ON ITS WAY!

I heard Kevin say though somewhat blurry, In fact everything is getting blurry, now I can only make out a somewhat desperate silhouette of Miguel while he shouts things at me, and Kevin saying other things I can't hear.

- Guys... thank you for everything

I said with my last strength, keeping a smile before darkness took me completely and I permanently lost consciousness.

POV: General

And Kratos threw himself into the void, from the highest mountain in all of Greece, after years of- ...

… *cough, cough* sorry, wrong narration ... You have to understand today was Saturday and well... I decided to dust off the PlayStation 2… Never mind, let's continue with the story.

After Mark's death and with the ambulance arriving literally 20 minutes after Kevin's call, causing the latter to set the entire hospital that ambulance belonged to on fire, his funeral was held and MANY, MANY furries and the family of Mark attended, some cried (especially Kevin and Miguel, the latter even tried to commit suicide on top of the grave to accompany the protagonist before being stopped).

And another thing is that after his death, it was announced to the world that the person responsible for the furry fandom gaining total control over the world's economy was Mark himself and all the good he had done for the planet was also revealed.

Needless to say this was done by Kevin after he literally erased from the face of the earth every witness and every piece of evidence of the many crimes that such achievement naturally involved... But well, it's not like people really care to know that the economy itself is basically a huge scam sustained only because ordinary people are dumb enough to ignore the fact that everything is based on impossible-to-pay debts, and that in real terms money is just paper that people give value to because they want to.

And let's be honest, money in essence has no real value, Its importance comes solely from the social consensus that supports it unlike tangible goods like food, water, or natural resources, money does not satisfy human needs by itself, you can't eat it, it doesn't protect you, nor does it guarantee survival or any of that shit. Its "value" is not in what it is, but in what it represents.

And even so the value of money lies in the collective trust people place in it because if that trust disappeared money would immediately lose its usefulness and go back to being the shitty scam it really is.

... Okay, now that I've vented some of that anger, can someone tell me what the story was about? *checks through existence* oh right, Mark.

Well then, after everything that hap- okay, screw it, I'm not done talking yet, WHY THE FUC- *Proceeds to go on another rant that I honestly won't include because if I did, this book would get cancelled*

//--//--//--//

Hewoooooo, I hope you didn't miss me, I know I literally just canceled a book because I said I didn't know how to continue it (and that's true)

However, after downloading an app for creating books called "Novelist" (I don't trust even in my new translator enough) and talking about it with someone in the comments of my other book this story came to mind, I hope you like it, and I'll see you in another chapter.
