Chapter 3 - Lines That No Longer Existed

By midday, the war had spread beyond anything anyone had predicted. Borders—once lines drawn on maps—had become meaningless. The conflict was no longer contained. It was expanding.

Leila moved quickly through the streets, keeping her head low as military vehicles rushed past. The city had transformed into something unrecognizable. Checkpoints appeared overnight. Armed soldiers scanned every passing face. Drones hummed faintly overhead, unseen but always present.

District 7 wasn't far. But in a war zone, distance meant nothing. Every step carried risk. She reached the meeting point—a partially destroyed building that looked like it had been abandoned years ago. The windows were gone. The door hung loosely on its hinges. Inside, it was dark.

"Hello?" she called softly. Silence. Then— "You came." Leila turned sharply. A man stepped out from the shadows, his face partially obscured. "Who are you?" she asked. "Someone who knows what this really is," he replied.

Her grip tightened on the camera. "Then talk." He studied her for a moment before speaking. "This war isn't just about retaliation," he said. "It's about timing." Leila frowned. "Timing for what?" "For something bigger."

At that same moment, across multiple regions, missile systems activated. Not one. Not two. Dozens. In the command center, Arman watched in disbelief as radar screens lit up. "Where are they all coming from?!" someone shouted. "Multiple launch sites—this is coordinated across regions!"

Arman's mind raced. This wasn't just a response. This was escalation. "Intercept everything you can!" he ordered. "But sir—we can't stop all of them!" "I didn't say we could," Arman snapped. "I said try!" The sky above several cities erupted. Missiles streaked across the horizon, leaving trails of fire behind them. Impact followed. Explosions echoed across borders.

This was no longer a conflict between two sides. It was becoming a chain reaction. Daniel Reyes stood frozen as reports flooded in. "Strikes confirmed across multiple locations." "Casualties increasing." "Allied forces requesting immediate coordination."

Daniel turned to the main screen. The map was changing. Fast. Red markers appearing everywhere. Each one a strike. Each one a message. And each one pushing the world closer to something irreversible. "This is spreading too fast," someone said. Daniel didn't respond. Because he knew— They were losing control.

Back in the abandoned building, Leila stared at the man in front of her. "What do you mean 'something bigger'?" she demanded. He hesitated. Then said, "There are plans in motion that didn't start with this attack—and won't end with it." Leila's heart pounded. "Who's behind it?" The man looked at her directly. "Everyone."
