Chapter 4 - Chapter 3:Not Alone

And for the first time in a while or should I say since I was born…

I saw fear in her eyes.

The rest of the drive was quiet.

Too quiet.

My mom didn't say anything after that, she just kept quiet.

She just kept her eyes on the road, her grip tight on the steering wheel.

That alone made my chest feel heavy.

She knows something.

she is definitely hiding something.

When we finally got home, the sun was already setting.

The village looked the same as always… calm, peaceful.

But for some reason

It didn't feel safe anymore.

"Go inside," my mom said quickly.

I frowned. "What about you?"

"I'll be there in a minute."

Her tone wasn't normal.

I hesitated… but nodded and stepped out of the car.

As I walked toward the house, I felt it again.

That same feeling.

Like someone was watching me.

Slowly… I turned around.

The street was empty.

My mom was still in the car.

Everything looked normal.

But my instincts were screaming.

Run.

I didn't wait.

I rushed inside and shut the door behind me, locking it quickly.

My breathing was uneven now.

"You're just imagining things," I muttered.

But even as I said it…

I didn't believe it.

A few minutes later, my mom came in.

"Lock all the windows," she said immediately.

I stared at her.

"Mom… what's going on?"

She didn't answer.

Instead, she walked toward the window and pulled the curtains shut.

"Just do it."

Something was very wrong.

I moved quickly, locking each window one by one.

The house felt different now.

Tense.

Like we were waiting for something.

Or someone.

Then

A sound came from outside.

Scratch.

I froze.

My mom did too.

Scratch… scratch…

It was coming from the wall.

Like something was dragging its claws across it.

My heart started pounding again.

My mom turned toward the sound immediately.

Her face had gone pale.

The scratching moved.

From one side of the house…

To the other.

Like something was circling us.

My heart pounded harder with every second.

Then suddenly

The power went out.

Darkness.

Complete silence.

"Mom…"

I could barely see her now.

Then

A shadow moved past the window.

"Mom…" I whispered.

She slowly turned toward me.

And this time

There was no hiding it.

She was scared.

"Stay away from the windows," she said quietly.

The scratching stopped.

Silence filled the house.

And then

A low… deep growl echoed from outside.

Not human.

Not even close.

My blood ran cold.

"Mom…"

She closed her eyes for a brief second…

Like she already knew this moment would come.

Then she looked at me and said the words that changed everything

"It's time you know the truth son."
