Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Impact of a Gaze

🩺 Chapter 3: The Impact of a Gaze

Standing outside the ICU, Anaya tried to compose herself.

"What is happening to me...?" she whispered to herself.

Taking so much interest in a patient's life wasn't her habit. She always remained professional. But Kabir Malhotra... he was different.

His words... his eyes... and his attitude...

Everything was different.

Inside the ICU...

Riya was still standing next to Kabir.

"Do you have any idea how stressed I was?" Riya said angrily.

"Phone switched off, no information... and here you are, lying comfortably in a hospital!"

Kabir smirked slightly.

"Relax, Riya. I'm not dying."

"Don't joke!" Riya almost yelled.

"You know how dangerous your enemies are, right?"

Kabir's expression turned serious for a second.

"I will handle everything," he said in a cold voice.

"You say that every time!" Riya said in frustration.

Kabir looked at her... then said softly—

"Don't you trust me?"

Riya fell silent.

But the fear in her eyes was clearly visible.

Meanwhile...

Anaya walked back into the ICU.

A professional face... controlled emotions...

As if nothing had happened.

"It's time for your medication," she said in a normal tone.

Riya looked at her... this time, there was less irritation in her gaze, but more curiosity.

Kabir looked directly at Anaya.

"You came back..."

Without looking at him, Anaya said, "I work here."

Kabir chuckled softly.

"Good. That means we'll meet often."

Anaya gave him a sharp look.

"Don't be too confident."

Kabir said softly—

"It's not confidence... it's a feeling."

Anaya's heart raced for a second.

Anaya was preparing his injection.

Kabir was observing her.

"Aren't you scared?" he asked suddenly.

Anaya paused. "Of what?"

"Of me."

A strange silence filled the room.

Anaya looked into his eyes.

"I am a nurse," she said calmly.

"To me, every patient is the same."

Kabir gave a faint smile.

"I am not the 'same', Anaya."

It was the first time he said her name so smoothly...

As if that name was special to him.

Just then, a ward boy rushed inside.

"Madam!" he said in a panic.

"Some men are outside the hospital... and they are asking about Kabir sir."

The room's atmosphere changed instantly.

Kabir's eyes turned cold.

"How many men?" he asked directly.

"4-5... and they seem a bit aggressive..."

Riya's face turned pale.

"Kabir... I told you..." she said fearfully.

Anaya was confused.

"Who are they?" she asked.

Kabir didn't give a direct answer.

He slowly started getting out of bed.

"Hey! You need to rest," Anaya stopped him immediately.

Kabir grabbed her hand.

His touch was strong... and warm too.

"Do you think I am safe here?" he said softly.

Anaya got lost in his eyes.

There was only one thing there—

Danger.

"Inform the police," Anaya said immediately.

"Already informed them, madam," the ward boy said.

Kabir smirked slightly.

"The police..." he repeated softly.

"They will arrive when everything is already over."

Anaya was genuinely getting tense now.

"What is all this happening?" she asked Kabir.

Kabir came closer to her... a little closer...

"Do you really want to know?" he said softly.

Anaya nodded without thinking.

Looking into her eyes, Kabir said—

"I am not as simple as you think I am..."

Just then, a voice came from outside—

"Open the door!"

Someone hit the ICU door hard.

Terrified, Riya moved closer to Kabir.

"Kabir, please... do something..."

Anaya's heart was beating fast.

For the first time in her job, she felt such real danger.

Kabir was completely calm.

As if all this was normal for him.

He looked at Anaya...

And said softly—

"Now decide, Anaya..."

"Are you going to save me..."

There was another loud bang on the door.

"Or ruin my life..."

The door was about to burst open...

Anaya's decision...

Could change everything.

To be continued...
