Chapter 31 - epilogue: years later

Two years later…

Life didn't look the same anymore.

It wasn't just about lectures, assignments, or quiet walks across campus.

It was bigger.

Real life.

Amara stood in front of the mirror again.

Funny how some things never changed.

But everything else had.

She adjusted her outfit, taking a small breath as she looked at her reflection.

She looked… happy.

Not the kind of happiness that comes and goes.

But the kind that stays.

"Are you ready?" Tessa called from the other room.

Amara smiled slightly.

"Almost!"

Some things really didn't change.

She picked up her phone, her fingers hovering over the screen for a second.

A message was already there.

"I'm outside."

Of course he was.

Always early.

Always waiting.

Always staying.

Amara shook her head with a soft smile before heading out.

And there he was.

Kieran.

Leaning against his car, looking exactly the same—

But also completely different.

More grounded.

More certain.

More… real.

He looked up as she approached.

And just like that—

He smiled.

Not the old smile.

Not the careless one.

But the one that meant something.

"You took forever," he said lightly.

"You came too early," she replied.

"Still arguing, I see."

"Still showing up too soon."

They both laughed softly.

Easy.

Natural.

Like they had found their rhythm.

And kept it.

As they stood there for a moment, Amara looked at him.

Really looked at him.

Not as the boy she once fell for.

But as the man who stayed.

"You know," she said quietly,

"If you had told me back then that we'd end up here…"

Kieran raised an eyebrow.

"You wouldn't have believed me?"

She shook her head.

"Not at all."

"Why?"

Amara smiled slightly.

"Because you were the wrong guy."

Kieran let out a soft laugh.

"Was?"

She stepped closer.

"Were."

Silence.

Soft.

Warm.

"And now?" he asked.

Amara held his gaze.

"Now you're just… mine."

That hit differently.

Because it wasn't dramatic.

It wasn't loud.

But it was everything.

Kieran reached for her hand.

The same way he always did.

But this time…

It felt permanent.

Not temporary.

Not uncertain.

Just real.

"Ready?" he asked.

Amara nodded.

"Ready."

And as they walked forward together—

There was no fear.

No hesitation.

No looking back.

Because this time…

They weren't just in love.

They had built something stronger than that.

Something that lasted.
