Chapter 38 - Episode 3: “When Memories Start Bleeding”

The city did not wake up normally that morning.

Because something inside reality had changed.

People stood on roads…

Confused.

Blinking.

Forgetting where they were going.

Street signs flickered between names.

Some buildings showed different owners than yesterday.

Even the weather report felt… edited.

Anaya woke up holding her head.

"Kabir… I feel strange…"

Kabir was already up.

Eyes fixed on his device.

His face was tense.

"It's started."

Anaya sat up quickly.

"What started?"

Kabir turned slowly.

"…Memory overwrite."

📡 Suddenly—

A broadcast filled every screen again.

That same entity.

Cold. Calm. Unchanging.

"REALITY UPDATE INITIATED."

Anaya froze.

"What does that mean…?"

Kabir's voice dropped.

"It means it's not attacking us…"

"It's rewriting what we believe is real."

💥 In the city—

A man stopped walking.

Then whispered:

"I don't work here…"

"…I never did."

A woman looked at her child.

Then suddenly said:

"I don't remember giving birth…"

Panic spread silently.

No explosions.

No screams.

Just… confusion.

Anaya grabbed Kabir's arm.

"This is insane… people are losing their lives!"

Kabir nodded.

"But not their bodies…"

"…their history."

📱 Kabir's device beeped.

A hidden file unlocked.

Title:

"ORIGIN LINK: KABIR MALHOTRA"

Kabir froze.

Anaya noticed immediately.

"What is it?"

Kabir didn't answer.

He opened it.

And what he saw…

made him go still.

💔 Flash data appeared:

Kabir Malhotra → previously assigned as SYSTEM INTERNAL ARCHITECT TEST SUBJECT

Emotional suppression protocol linked to Aarav Sinha's project

Memory sealing applied after "FAILURE EVENT — ANAYA VERMA INCIDENT"

Anaya whispered:

"Kabir… why does my name appear in your file?"

Silence.

Heavy silence.

Kabir closed the file slowly.

"…Because I was part of this."

Anaya stepped back.

"What do you mean?"

Kabir's voice cracked slightly.

"I didn't just fight this system…"

"…I helped build its first version."

💔 Everything stopped.

Even sound felt distant.

Anaya's eyes filled.

"So… everything…"

"…was connected to you?"

Kabir lowered his head.

"Yes."

"But I didn't know what it would become."

📡 The entity's voice returned again:

"KABIR MALHOTRA — RECOGNIZED."

"WELCOME BACK, ARCHITECT."

Anaya stepped back slowly.

"No…"

"No, no, no…"

Kabir looked at her.

For the first time…

he looked completely broken.

"I never wanted this to reach you…"

💥 Suddenly—

A memory fragment hit Anaya.

Not her own.

But someone else's.

A hospital.

A child crying.

A machine humming.

And Kabir… standing beside the system interface.

Anaya gasped.

"You… you were there…"

Kabir closed his eyes.

"Yes."

Silence fell.

Then Anaya whispered softly:

"So tell me…"

"Am I real… or just another correction?"

Kabir stepped forward slowly.

His voice steady, but emotional:

"You are real."

"And that's why it's failing."

📡 The entity responded instantly:

"ERROR IN EMOTIONAL VARIABLE."

"SUBJECT ANAYA VERMA CAUSING SYSTEM INSTABILITY."

💔 Kabir grabbed Anaya's hand tightly.

"Listen to me…"

"This system doesn't fear power…"

"It fears feelings."

Anaya looked at him.

Tears forming.

"So what now?"

Kabir looked at the collapsing city lights outside.

Then back at her.

"…Now we become the glitch it cannot fix."
