Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: The Sun will rise once again

A week after the invasion, the city of Lucindor was slowly recovering. The smoke had long since cleared, and the scars of battle were being repaired by the tireless work of soldiers, laborers, and volunteers. Streets once littered with debris now showed the first signs of normal life. Markets reopened, fountains gurgled once more, and banners of the Land of Luminous Flame flapped gently in the breeze.

Leo, Rein, Helmond, and Ethan sat atop the city walls, legs dangling over the edge, watching the sun dip toward the horizon. The sky was calm, painted in shades of gold and crimson, reflecting across the Land of Luminous Flame like a promise of renewal.

For a moment, they simply sat in silence, each lost in thought, absorbing the peace that had been so hard-won.

Finally, Ethan broke the quiet. "Leo… do you actually know who Sol is?"

Leo's gaze remained on the horizon. "Yes. I met him before—back when I escaped into the city."

The others turned to him in surprise. "You knew him?" Rein asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.

Helmond crossed his arms, eyes narrowing. "He just soloed three Dark Lords. That's… impossible for anyone normal."

Leo finally looked at them, his expression calm but serious. "He wasn't like that back then."

They waited for him to continue, the quiet stretching between them like a held breath.

"He was weak before he equipped the Corrupted Soul Orb," Leo explained. "Back then, he couldn't even defeat a Dark Lord's minion. He had potential, yes, but not this… power."

A weighty silence fell over the group. The thought of someone growing that strong so quickly was both unsettling and awe-inspiring.

Helmond clenched his fist. "Then that means…"

"He wasn't born that strong," Ethan finished.

Leo nodded slowly. "He chose that power. And that choice changed everything."

The wind brushed against them, carrying with it the scent of blooming flora and scorched earth alike. For the first time since the invasion, they were not thinking about survival. They were thinking about growth, about the paths they had yet to walk.

Unbeknownst to them, Sol stood on a distant cliff overlooking the city walls. His silhouette was stark against the fading sun, the corrupted aura around his blade faint but present, like a shadow refusing to fade. He observed Leo, Rein, Helmond, and Ethan laughing and talking freely, the warmth of camaraderie and hope filling the space where once only fear had lingered.

For a brief moment, Sol felt… nothing.

Then, a subtle tug stirred within him—a reminder of the corruption he carried. The power he wielded set him apart, isolating him from those he had just saved. He had defeated the Dark Lords, protected the city, yet here they were, free to enjoy a life he could never fully partake in.

He clenched the hilt of his double-edged Lunar Blade. The corrupted energy pulsed faintly, enough to remind him of his strength but not enough to harm the world below.

For a moment, he considered stepping forward, joining them, letting himself share in their relief and laughter. But the darkness within him—the corruption that had granted him this immense power—tempered his desire. He knew the risk. He had chosen this path, and it demanded distance, solitude.

So he remained on the cliff, silent, a shadow among the twilight. A hero? Or something far more dangerous? Something no one else could truly understand.

In the quiet of his thoughts, a vision flickered before his eyes—a projection of fear and anticipation. Sol imagined Kharous Raine, battered and weakened from the battle, yet still burning with unbroken malice. Chains rattled faintly in the shadows of Sol's mind as the Tyrant's presence seemed to loom across the Land of Luminous Flame.

"I'll come back… to destroy you…"

The imagined words echoed in Sol's mind like a curse. He saw Kharous' eyes, sharp and calculating, scanning the city as though weighing every possible threat. The vision pulsed with dread and chains, the oppressive aura of the Tyrant almost tangible. Sol's pulse quickened—not from the reality of Kharous, but from the anticipation, the knowledge that the Tyrant could one day rise again.

Yet Sol reminded himself: it was only a possibility, a shadow within his mind, not reality. The city below was alive, rebuilding, protected by those who had survived. The Dark Lords were gone, the immediate threat extinguished. He could prepare, but he could not let the fear dominate him.

Still, his grip tightened on the Lunar Blade. The corrupted orb within it pulsed faintly, a silent promise that he would stand when needed, that the darkness within him could be wielded for protection as much as destruction.

Below, the others were still perched on the city wall.

"I feel… like this moment won't last forever," Rein said quietly, watching the sun's final rays shimmer on the walls. "The battle is over, but I can feel it. Something's coming."

Helmond's eyes were sharp. "It's never truly over. But we've survived, and we've grown. That counts for something."

Ethan smirked faintly, exhaustion mingling with relief. "I just hope the next battle is as straightforward as today," he muttered, letting out a soft laugh, though it remained half-tinged with tension.

Leo's gaze swept across the city, then returned to his friends. "We'll be ready," he said, his voice steady. "No matter what comes next. Together."

Far above, Sol continued to watch, still distant, still separate. The darkness inside him lingered, but it did not dominate him. Not yet. He had chosen his path, he had chosen his power, and now he waited. For the city, for its defenders, for the next storm that might come.

The Land of Luminous Flame exhaled as one, the tension slowly melting from the air. Scars remained, both physical and emotional, but the city had survived. Heroes had emerged, and for the first time in a long while, the survivors could breathe.

And in that tense, reflective twilight, Sol allowed himself one fleeting thought: perhaps even a shadow could watch over the light, even if he could never fully touch it.

For now, the Land of Luminous Flame was safe.
