Chapter 15 - The beginning of last day

📖 CHAPTER 16 — PLAYFUL MORNING

The morning sun spilled through the curtains, painting golden stripes across the beachside room. Vijay woke to the soft rhythm of waves and the sound of Riya humming nearby.

He blinked, stretched, and saw her perched by the balcony, notebook in hand, sketching the sunrise.

"Morning," he said softly, his voice still husky with sleep.

Riya turned, smiling. "Morning… sleepyhead."

He walked over, gently brushing a strand of hair from her face. "So… we're official now, huh?"

Riya laughed lightly, leaning into his touch. "Yes, officially. Don't act so surprised. You've been obvious for months."

Vijay grinned. "I'm a professional at hiding obvious things."

She rolled her eyes playfully, and just like that, the morning felt effortless—quiet, warm, and full of possibilities.

Later, the friends gathered near the beach restaurant. Tanu, Sana, and Ayaan had arranged a small picnic for the group. Kabir, of course, had sneakily brought a megaphone, promising "maximum fun and minimal dignity."

Dev nudged Vijay and Riya. "Okay, lovebirds. Time for a little game."

Riya tilted her head. "Game?"

"Truth or Dare," Dev announced with a mischievous grin. "Mandatory participation."

Kabir waved the megaphone. "All secrets, all dares, all embarrassing glory—right now!"

The game began with laughter and playful banter. Vijay went first.

"Truth," Riya said softly, eyes glinting.

"Do you… actually think I'm cute when I'm angry?" Vijay asked, a hint of mischief in his voice.

Riya laughed, lightly hitting his shoulder. "Cute? You're adorable… but don't let that inflate your ego too much."

Next, Riya chose dare. Dev whispered suggestions like a general commanding troops.

"Vijay, dare her to… compliment you dramatically in front of everyone," Dev suggested.

Riya rolled her eyes but leaned closer to Vijay. "Fine… Vijay Dev… you are the handsomest, strongest, most ridiculously charming human being I've ever met. There. Happy?"

Vijay grinned widely, though a slight blush colored his cheeks.

Meanwhile, Tanu and Sana quietly strategized. "We need to make this day full of bonding," Tanu whispered. "Not just between them… but everyone."

Sana nodded. "Let's make sure everyone has fun, while subtle hints of friendship growth slip in."

As the game continued, Ayaan took the chance to pull Kabir aside. "Bro, your turn. Stop being so loud and let others shine for a bit. You're distracting them."

Kabir smirked. "Me? Distracting? Never. I'm enhancing the atmosphere."

Ayaan sighed but smiled, shaking his head. "Whatever you say."

After Truth & Dare, the group shifted to a volleyball match along the beach. Vijay and Riya naturally gravitated to each other on opposing teams, teasing and cheering each other on.

Tanu noticed Riya laughing freely for the first time in weeks. "She's finally letting herself enjoy this," Tanu whispered to Sana.

Sana nodded. "And that's because she trusts him… and maybe because we're actually good at subtle meddling."

As the afternoon heat rose, the focus gradually shifted to other friends.

Dev decided to show off some new workout routines, turning the sandy beach into a mini-gym. Kabir mocked him the entire time, claiming "This is the most unnecessary display of muscles ever, and I'm offended that sand exists for this."

Tanu, meanwhile, helped organize a mini-cooking challenge using ingredients from Ayann's family restaurant.

"Let's see who can make the best dessert in 15 minutes," she announced. Sana paired with Ayaan, while Dev and Kabir reluctantly became a team.

Vijay and Riya watched from the sidelines, sharing quiet glances and laughter. Riya whispered, "You notice how serious they get about food?"

Vijay smirked. "Muscles and desserts… some things never change."

The cooking challenge brought out surprising sides of everyone.

Sana: methodical and clever, she created a visually stunning fruit parfait.

Ayaan: quiet strategist, balanced flavors perfectly.

Dev: focused on presentation rather than taste, ended up with a towering but unstable chocolate tower.

Kabir: pure chaos, somehow burned marshmallows into a crispy pile, but his humor won the judges' hearts.

Tanu: practical, simple, tasty dessert, admired for efficiency.

Riya whispered to Vijay, "I think Tanu is secretly the best at everything."

Vijay nodded. "Yeah… she's amazing. Sana too. And… Ayaan is the quiet type you can't underestimate."

By evening, the group gathered around the picnic blankets, tasting each other's creations, laughing, and teasing.

Dev whispered loudly to Vijay, "You should've helped, lovebird. You're distracted."

Vijay shot him a glare, but couldn't suppress his smile. Riya leaned against him, resting her head lightly on his shoulder.

Tanu nudged Sana, whispering, "Look at them. Finally comfortable together."

Sana nodded, eyes glinting. "All those little pushes, the subtle touches… they're paying off."

As night fell, a soft breeze swept across the beach. The friends sat in a loose circle, the stars reflecting off the waves.

Kabir, for once, remained quiet, watching with a soft grin. Dev leaned back with a satisfied smirk.

Ayaan spoke quietly to Tanu and Sana, "It's not just about Vijay and Riya. Today, everyone bonded… learned more about each other. That's what makes memories last."

Tanu smiled. "And we did it without obvious meddling. Subtlety always wins."

Sana nodded, quietly satisfied. "Next step… maybe a little more adventure. But for now… this is perfect."

The sun hung high over the small coastal town, streets bustling with tourists, street vendors, and the occasional stray cat darting between alleys. The friends moved as a group, bags in hand, laughter spilling into the warm air.

Sana skipped slightly ahead, eyes sparkling with excitement. "I still can't believe how much we've explored these past days!"

Tanu laughed, balancing a basket of trinkets in her hands. "And I can't believe Dev bought enough stuff for everyone that we could probably open our own shop tomorrow."

Dev smirked, pretending to look offended. "It's called planning, Tanu. You'll understand when you grow up."

Ayaan rolled his eyes, shaking his head. "Planning or hoarding? Sometimes I'm not sure which."

While everyone shopped, Riya lingered beside Sana.

"Thanks for… you know, wanting to be my friend from the start," Riya said quietly, glancing at her shoes.

Sana tilted her head. "Why wouldn't I? You seemed… interesting. Independent, funny, and a little mysterious. Plus, I like people who aren't afraid to challenge me."

Riya hesitated a moment, then shared lightly, "Well… my father and mother… they've shaped a lot of who I am. I can't really explain everything, but… that's why I'm careful about people."

Sana nodded softly. "I understand. You don't have to tell me everything. Just… I'm glad we met."

The group soon reached a boutique-lined street in the heart of town. Shops displayed local handicrafts, colorful clothes, and small souvenirs.

Vijay and Riya drifted toward one another, occasionally brushing hands as they examined bracelets, small charms, and handmade trinkets.

"Pick something that reminds you of this vacation," Riya suggested, holding up a delicate seashell necklace.

Vijay smiled, "Then you should wear this one. It'll remind us… of today, and everything we've shared."

He handed her a small leather bracelet etched with a simple wave pattern. Riya's eyes lit up.

"And for you," she said, picking up a keychain shaped like a tiny ocean wave. "Something to remember me by. Not that you'll ever forget, gym bro."

Vijay laughed, feeling his heart tighten in a familiar, warm way.

Dev, ever the practical one, had his own agenda. "Everyone follow me to the next shop. Last ocean bath tomorrow—I've got outfits ready for everyone."

"Wait… what outfits?" Tanu asked suspiciously.

"You'll see," Dev said with a grin, dragging them down a narrow lane to a small boutique. Soon, colorful, bold, and cheeky swimsuits were laid out—matching sets for the girls, form-fitting and stylish, while the boys received beachwear designed to showcase their physiques.

Ayaan smirked. "I see Dev hasn't lost his flair for drama."

Kabir whistled. "Hot damn… they really went all out."

The next morning, the group arrived at the secluded beach near Ayaan's father's restaurant. The sun glinted on the waves, and the warm sand made everything feel like paradise.

Dev clapped his hands. "Alright, everyone, inspection time. No sugarcoating—give real compliments. Girls first."

Riya leaned toward Vijay, whispering, "Let's do this…"

She glanced at each of the boys. "Vijay… your chest, shoulders… and your arms. You're… wow, I can't even… perfect. Strong, but natural. I love it."

Sana pointed at Dev, smirking. "You have… raw strength. Beast-like, like you could lift a small car without trying. It's intimidating and… attractive."

Tanu crossed her arms, smirking at Ayaan and Vijay. "Ayaan, your chest is amazing. And Vijay, don't think you're getting off easy—you're ripped, but still approachable. Dev, keep trying."

Kabir, already amused, leaned toward Riya. "And you… the humor, plus that Adam's apple of yours. Makes you even hotter."

Riya laughed. "Don't tease me, Kabir."

Then it was the boys' turn.

Vijay stared at Riya, feeling slightly flustered. "I… like your hands. And… your arms, they're delicate but strong. And your cheeks… so cute."

Dev grinned at Tanu. "Your eyes… different. Unique. Can't look away."

Ayaan smiled at Sana. "Figure… amazing. Graceful, strong… the complete package."

Kabir raised an eyebrow. "And I'm looking at Ayaan's honesty… but I suspect something there."

Everyone burst into laughter, the beach echoing with joy.

After the compliments, the group dove into the water, splashing, laughing, and playing, feeling the ocean wash away any remaining fatigue or worries. Vijay and Riya stayed close, occasionally sharing quiet smiles, while friends engaged in playful competitions and antics.

By sunset, the water glimmered like molten gold. Towels wrapped around them, they watched the horizon.

Dev nudged everyone. "Last sunset of vacation. Remember this. Laugh, tease, love, whatever—but make it count."

As the group returned to the restaurant, the night settled softly over the beachside town. Memories had been made, bonds strengthened, and hearts quietly reminded of the warmth of friendship and first love.

Vijay held Riya's hand tightly, whispering, "This… this has been perfect. You, me, everyone…"

Riya smiled, leaning on his shoulder. "Yes… perfect. Let's never forget this."

Behind them, the friends exchanged satisfied looks. The vacation was ending, but the laughter, love, and memories would last forever.
