Chapter 37 - The Cost of Seeing Too Late

Damian broke first.

---

Not loudly.

Not visibly.

---

But decisively.

---

He entered the strategy room without announcement.

No warning.

No pause.

---

"You're shutting this down."

---

Evelyn didn't look up.

"No."

---

Damian stepped forward.

"This isn't business anymore."

---

"It never was."

---

The answer landed hard.

---

He moved closer.

Too close.

---

"You're letting him pull you in."

---

Evelyn's eyes lifted.

Cold.

Sharp.

---

"I'm already in."

---

Silence.

---

That was the moment.

---

Damian's control—

Finally slipped.

---

"Then I pull you out."

---

He reached for her.

Not violent.

Not careless.

---

But wrong.

---

Evelyn stepped back instantly.

---

"Don't."

---

The word cut clean.

---

Damian froze.

---

The space between them—

Expanded.

---

Not physically.

---

Irreversibly.

---

"You don't get to decide that anymore," she said.

---

His voice dropped.

"You think I won't act?"

---

Evelyn held his gaze.

---

"I think you're too late."

---

Silence.

---

Then—

He did something he had never done before.

---

He ignored her answer.

---

And turned—

To the system.

---

To the structure.

---

To the fight.

---

"If you won't stop," he said quietly—

"Then I will."

---

And for the first time—

Damian Laurent entered the war.
