Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Cost of arrogance

"AGHH!"

"Fucking calm down, will you?" Wu Zhe said, driving his foot into her stomach. She felt her ribs crack beneath the blow.

"Come on, lovebirds," he muttered, "Let's see how bright you two light up."

He dragged both of them by their hair back toward the wagon.

When they finally arrived, the light of the torches brightened the woman's eyes as it widened in horror.

Her husband's head hung limp, blood pouring from his mouth.

"You animal!" she screamed.

But just as she screamed, Wu Zhe kicked her in the stomach again, silencing her.

"My god! Can you be quiet for one whole minute?" Wu Zhe said, his voice sounding annoyed, turning to her.

But unfortunately for her Wu Zhe grew irritated at her so he… repeatedly kicked her to calm his anger as he stomped and she groaned under the kicks her ribs and bones broke upon impact.

"Thank you… Fuck sale…" he sighed, regaining his composure.

"Ah.… let's break your legs first."

He lifted his foot high beneath their legs, and as Qi surged around him, he brought it down with full force, stomping on their legs.

CRACK!

CRACK!

The husband's screams faded to whimpers. His legs bent unnaturally.

"Your turn." Wu Zhe said, turning to the woman.

"AGHHHH!" "STOP!" She shrieked as her bones snapped.

Wu Zhe also grabbed her hands and twisted… hard.

"AUHHHHHH! AGHHHH!" she screamed.

Her arms contorted, twisting, as well as her tendons.

Then he did the same to her husband, who only groaned, unable to scream.

"Perfect," Wu Zhe said coldly. "You two shouldn't be able to move now. Stay here. Don't go anywhere."

He turned to the wagon and took down the burning torch hanging from its side.

"Uh… uh… uh…"

The woman tried to crawl away, but without her working legs or hands, she only squirmed helplessly, akin to that of a worm.

"I said, don't move."

Wu Zhe grabbed her by the hair and threw her onto her husband's body, then placed the brother body atop them both.

He picked up a sword from the ground, walked back, and muttered.

"With this, you three won't be going anywhere."

He raised the blade and drove it through all three of them, pinning their bodies to the earth.

The man and lady groaned upon getting pierced.

Then, he pressed the torch onto the brother's robes.

"Stop no! Please no!" She screamed, pleading for Wu Zhe to not.

"How disgusting," Wu Zhe spat, his face twisting into one of disdain. "Even crushed, bleeding, and on the brink of death, you still beg for your worthless lives… Truly, existence delights in mocking fools who insist on playing its endless game."

"Ignorant bitch," he muttered, his eyes narrowing as he stared at her. "You do not understand the greatness of what is happening to you… Instead of rejoicing to your return to the void, you plead to continue living. How utterly disgusting," he said, looking at her with genuine disgust on his face.

FWOOOOSH.

The flames spread, consuming the brother body, and it began going lower.

The flames started burning up the woman's clothes.

"AHHHHHHHHH! AHHHHHHH!" she screamed as the fire consumed her.

"MMMGHHHHH!" the husband groaned, burning alive below her.

Their screams echoed through the forest. This beautiful night air carried the stench of charred flesh.

Wu Zhe stared blankly at the fire, expressionless.

"Do you see it? Do you feel the futility of your struggle! Fight all you want… you'll never live."

"You were chained… but no longer! Savor this despair, for in the end, you will finally be freed… and discover the peace that Existence itself denies!"

Wu Zhe said smiling genuinely happy with his act.

He kept his gaze on the three, smiling, feeling content that he had liberated three lives chained by existence not bothered by the gruesome and disturbing acts of his torturing.

But he eyed the three, he heard the sounds of horses suddenly growing louder and closer to him.

Wu Zhe immediately sprang into action, rushing to grab the sword and disappearing behind the forest line.

He sat there, watching the road until finally a group of armored horsemen appeared, escorting one luxurious carriage with doors.

The group immediately stopped, noticing the wagon blocking the road.

"Hey! Why'd you stop!" a voice suddenly shouted from inside the carriage.

"Apologies, my lady. There seems to be a wagon blocking the road ahead," one of the coachmen replied. On top of the carriage were two men, and about twenty men on horseback, fully armored and all carrying swords, circled the carriage.

From where Wu Zhe hid, he saw them clearly.

He suddenly extended his Qi, assessing if they were cultivators.

From where Wu Zhe hid, he saw them clearly.

He suddenly extended his Qi, assessing if they were cultivators.

He suddenly extended his Qi, probing to see if they were cultivators.

No… way. They were far too strong, and there were far too many. His hands sweated profusely. Five of the horsemen were cultivators. Wu Zhe was confident on being able to take on three to five cultivators, but one of them was powerful enough that the others barely mattered. There was no way he could take them all on with that man there. His cultivation was higher than Wu Zhe's, though only by a minor realm and not a major one… but even so, he couldn't take the risk. Unless he used one of his ultimate techniques to kill him, something he wasn't ready to use, he had no chance. Even if he managed to kill the man, he would almost certainly suffer severe internal injuries from the technique. The only real option was to retreat.

Shit, shit, shit! His mind raced. He decided to back away and slip into the darkness, using the shadows to hide from the guards' eyes.

"Oh my god," one of the coachmen said.

"What?" the young lady inside the carriage asked.

"There seems to have been a murder!" eying the burning corpses, the coachman said in horror.

The guards looked at the three burning, their faces grimacing.

"On guard! this is fresh!" a guard said, noticing that the bodies hadn't become ash just yet, meaning this fire was just started.

"Could it be bandits? Captain!" one of the armored men on horseback shouted.

Hiding behind a tree, Wu Zhe inched further back to retreat, but unfortunately for him, his foot stepped on a twig.

CRACK!

All men on horses froze, scanning the darkness on where the sound came from.

"Who's there!"

Suddenly, the captain of the horsemen's eyes glowed.

"There!" he shouted, spotting Wu Zhe's silhouette.

Damn it! he thought, turning around and taking off immediately, his legs suddenly enveloped in Qi.

"Stay here and guard the lady! I'll go capture him!" the captain shouted, charging forward on his horse.

Wu Zhe moved effortlessly, his legs infused with Qi. He leapt onto a branch fifteen feet high and began jumping across the treetops effortlessly.

"Bastard! You won't get away!" the captain shouted, his eyes still glowing as he tracked Wu Zhe through the forest.

Wu Zhe gritted his teeth, he was an idiot he should've just killed theses three instead of taking it slow. His hubris was biting him in the ass.

Wu Zhe, turned around, his lead on the man on horseback was quite far, it a good idea to use the treetops instead of just running in the forest.

A couple minutes later…

This damned insistent son of a bitch! he thought, cursing the man's stubbornness for continuing to chase him.

"This goddamned bastard leaves me no choice," he muttered, sighing in annoyance.

"Stop! I surrender!" Wu Zhe shouted, raising his hands, sword in hand.

"Good. You didn't have to make this so difficult, insolent criminal," the captain shouted.

"Criminal? Me? Me no criminal sir!" Wu Zhe said, shaking his head vigorously.

"Bastard! You won't get away!" the captain shouted, his eyes still glowing as he tracked Wu Zhe through the forest.

Wu Zhe gritted his teeth. He was an idiot, he should've just killed these three instead of taking it slow. His arrogance was biting him in the ass.

He turned, noticing his lead over the man on horseback was significant. It was a good idea to use the treetops instead of running through the forest.

A couple of minutes later…

Wu Zhe turned around and didn't notice the man on horseback. He suddenly stopped and began meditating, trying to regain his lost Qi.
