Chapter 3 - 3: Whispers in the Dark.

They reached a rooftop overlooking the Guild-controlled district. The wind whipped

Lyra's hair, carrying scents of fire and rain.

"You're special," he said softly, his voice brushing her skin like a whisper. "They want you dead for a reason."

Lyra felt a shiver. "Why me?"

Before he could answer, another presence appeared a man leaning against the opposite rooftop, watching with a smirk.

Dark hair, mischievous eyes, a dangerous aura.

"I've been looking for you," he said, stepping closer.

His gaze swept over Lyra in a way that made her heart thump. Something about him made her skin tingle fear and attraction tangled together.

The stranger's jaw tightened slightly, but he said nothing. Lyra's pulse spiked. Confusion and excitement warred within her.

The new man introduced himself as Kael, offering hints of knowledge about her powers and promises of protection.

Lyra's heart skipped. Both men standing before her, secrets dancing in their eyes.

A piercing scream echoed below. The Guild was closer than ever. Lyra had to choose: run, fight, or trust her dangerous new allies.

Lyra expected another dark alley. Another ruined building.

Another place filled with fear.

Instead, the stranger opened a hidden iron door beneath an abandoned subway tunnel, and her entire world changed.

Light exploded before her eyes.

Not ordinary light. Magical light.

Tall crystal towers stretched toward the sky, glowing with soft blue and gold energy. Bridges floated between buildings like they ignored gravity.

People walked past them casually some levitating small objects, others creating sparks of energy in their palms like it was normal.

Lyra froze.

"What… is this place?" she whispered.

The stranger watched her reaction carefully.

"This," he said quietly, "is where people like you survive."

Her heart skipped.

"Like me?"

His eyes met hers.

"Awakened."

The word echoed inside her chest.

Before she could ask more, a smooth voice interrupted.

"Well well… so this is the girl causing chaos."

Lyra turned.

A tall man with dark hair leaned against a glowing pillar, arms folded like he owned the place.

His smile was dangerous. Confident. Attractive in a way that immediately made her nervous.

"I'm Kael," he said.

His eyes slowly scanned her face, then her hands, then back to her eyes.

Lyra felt heat rise in her cheeks.

The stranger stepped slightly in front of her.

"Behave," he warned.

Kael laughed softly.

"I always behave… eventually."

Lyra swallowed.

This city felt safer than the outside world… yet somehow more dangerous emotionally.

As they walked through the streets, Lyra noticed how people looked at her.

Some curious.

Some afraid.

Some impressed.

"Why are they staring?" she asked.

Kael answered casually:

"Because power recognizes power."

Lyra felt nervous again.

Suddenly alarms rang.

A deep horn echoed across the city.

Everyone stopped.

Then chaos began.

"Guild scouts!" someone shouted.

The stranger grabbed Lyra's wrist.

"Stay close."

For a second she didn't pull away.

His touch felt… safe.

From the city gates, black smoke rose.

And inside it…

Red glowing eyes opened.

Something powerful had found her.
