Lain woke up , stared at the wooden ceiling knowing the loop reapets itself. This loop repeated itself everyday ever since they moved to Greece.
Lain finally gathered the will to get up and slowly walked to a , pulled up water and rubbed the water all over his exhausted face.
That was when Lain spotted Lira and Father going to the market to sell trade goods. Lain sluggishly walked back to their house .
Mother was sitted in the living room , she was waiting for Lain. "Father and Lira are on their way to the market ," Lain informed mother. "Well I wouldn't want to say I know , but I'm the one who woke them up," mother answered playfully .
"So am I not going to get greeted by my oldest son ?" Mother said looking up at Lain with a fake annoyed look on her face.
"Can I not at least get time to dry my face? " Lain said, matching her fake annoyed look.
Mother opened her arms ," after u say good morning," Lain looked at her blankly, she obviously knew Lain hated hugs , he was sixteen for Zues' sake !
Lain tried passing her . She blocked his path by sliding a stool next to him . She opened her arms even wider , determined to get her morning hug and to annoy Lain.
Lain rolled his eyes in frustration, letting out a faint ,"ugh" He slowly reached in for the hug , mother hugged back , squeezing Lain like a fun-sized doll, which was ironic because Lain was almost double her size. But even tho there was a noticable height difference, Mother was somehow stronger than lain , which made him being Bear hugged more uncomfortable.what a way to start a morning .
Lain finally pulled out (pause). He awkwardly walked to his room, still wet . "Would you mind if I sent you to get me a light breakfast, I don't feel like morning fruits is going to do it for me today , " mother stopped Lain .
Lain dropped his hands , slightly annoyed , "after , I take a walk on the shore , I promise I'll be back early." Mother smiled , very much satisfied from Lain falling for the ragebait.
Lain quickly dried himself, wore light clothes and got ready for his morning walk.
Lain was a fairly talk young man, he had a very noticable scar , it ran through the left side of his face , giving him this half faced look , but instead of making him look scary or disgusting, somehow made him look better , it was more of stylish than just an aftermath of a horrific insident .
Lain was taking his morning stroll which led to a daydream , he always daydreamed , that was the main reason he always got in trouble .
While lain was still on his way to the shore , a flying insect moved across the left side of his face , slapping him on the face. Lain tried dodging and wiping the rogue insect off him .
Lain felt his differently textured side , it wasn't like it annoyed him , but it wasn't something he passed over when he rememberd it existed .
He remembered how he got his scar.
Lain and father were taking a evening hike , long before when Lain was a teenager, about the age of five .
Father was giving him the fairy tail he always told Lain every night. Lira wasn't even born yet .
It was a story of the origin of insignia , a gift from the heavens , used by humans to protect themselves, and sometimes if lucky , used for adaptive works.
Lain was following father , tugging on his cloth . Lain was scared of the dark , especially when a scary story like the origine of insignia was getting narrated to him .
"Lain , ever wondered how insignia came to us ? " Lain pushed his face on father's leg , not wanting to listen to it . Father let out a light chuckle.
"It was a normal night , just like this one , then suddenly the ground opened, letting out Lucifer, one of the workers of the gods who betrayed them for power, his apprentices followed him, all the nasty creatures you could ever imagine , big, small , wide , thin , wet and dry , all types of monsters were there . And they came to seek vengeance, vengeance for their leader ." At this point Lain was already terrified, his mind was a bit too good at imagining scary things , specifically what scared him.
"The earth was in a bad state , humans we're almost driven to extinction, even the animals that lived on earth with us initially. " Father raised his arm up , trying to high-five the stars.
"The war was best described as art , the gods defending us mightily, they eventually won , but sadly the earth couldn't go back to being the same-"
Father was cut off by a sound coming from a tree surrounded by dense bushes .
This was torture to young Lain. As if getting reminded of the horrors once contained on this world was not enough , now there was a very unsettling sound coming from a bush in the forest. How convinient , thanks Tyche!
Father put Lain behind him , slowly moved to the mysterious bush.
Before father could react , a man , hooded and slender popped from the bush , he had a curved dagger , it was chipped, it looked like it had gone through all sorts of horrors.
"Hand the abnormal," pointing at Lain, the hooded man said . Father held Lain's arm behind him firmly. "I'm sure this is something we can talk about , no need to get harsh, friend,"
The hooded man squeezed his dagger , still pointed at Lain , so hard to the point u could hear the rubbs of his hand and leather squealing. He was obviously growing tired of father's patience. But what was he expecting, a guardian to plainly give up their son just because a man said so , he did not even say please !
"I'm not playing games old man ! I don't have time , we need him. And if you do not want to comply, I will be forced to take him !"
Father took a deep breath , he knew this situation was not one to simply walk away from , there was no better choice. Give up his son and leave unharmed just to come to a furious wife who would no doubt make him suffer or , resist , not letting this goon take his son and protecting him for what is right.
There was only one right answer
Lain was handed to the goon and father left ,father was ready for the wrath of his wife and the law...is what father was thinking while Lain was on his arms , while he was sprinting across the forest .
The goon was behind them, running as fast as he could , he had to get this "abnormal".
He cought up to Father and Lain easily , a man sprinting with a five year old boy isn't expected to escape the sound barrier.
Father was tackled by the goon . Lain and father both rolled on the hard forest floor . "Why are you doing this?" Father frantically asked the hooded goon. "It is the only way to bring balance," The goon answered
What could he mean?
He raised his dagger , ready to stab Father, he could not care less for the old man , all he wanted was the child he constantly calls abnormal.
Father was over Lain, shielding him from the kidnapper . Lian finally sneaked a good look at the goon . He wore no sandals , he was barefoot, had strange marks that replicated the slither of a serpent . But there was something that confused lain. The odd unfriendly man was wearing a ring , not like the normal insignia ring which was all round. It had a gem , or crystal , Lain couldn't tell what it was , but he knew wearing a ring on the feet isn't normal .
Father was able to dodge the stabb , but wasn't able to dodge a graise on the shoulder.
He felt his skin boiling and turning all sorts of ways. It was excruciating.
Father was able to maneuver from the ground to a gradual running posture with Lain still on his hands .
Father was in excruciating pain , he was already exhausted, he was stressed and couldn't figure out what to do. The world must have been ending.
The goon cought up again , this time he tackled father . Lain hit is head on a fairly sizable rock , enough for a 5 year old to carry.
Father and the goon were in a squabble on the ground , blood was oozing from everywhere. Father couldn't tell if it was his blood or the goon's blood on the ground.
Lain finally masterd up strength to sit up. His vision was blurry , his head was light. His eyes were able to focuse on father and the goon on the ground , still confronting each other's strength.
Lain saw the rock that had initially knocked him out. He carried the rock with both of his hands , leg bending, and back arched , the rock was too heavy for him to carry . He wanted to save father , he wanted to rescue him from the goons mercy.
Lain slowly carried the rock to the human-fight pile . He raised the rock above his head , aiming for the goon.
The plan was full proof; carry rock , raise rock over bad man , drop heavy rock on bad man's head , bad man die , father and Lain go one with their lives.
But there was one problem , two men on the ground , coiling up on each other , hurting each other , is not easy to aim at . Lain hot nervous , what if he hit Father , then he would have basically helped the bad man , Lain couldn't stand on the idea of helping a bad man , especially when he was threatening his family.
Lain closed his eyes , sounds of the grunting men still dominating the eerie darkness of the forest's night. Then with a sudden give in , Lain let go.
The large rock dropped aimlessly on the pile of man .
With a thud , the forest was suddenly silent . Did he hit the target ? Or maybe he hit the wrong person and now he was about to get kidnapped? Or , the worst case scenario, he hit two fighting Wandering Albatross , fighting for turf .
There was movement, Lain almost jumped up celebrating : the worst case scenario hadn't happened , he hit one! Then Lain realized, he is celebrating too early, he hasn't even seen who he hit .
Lain felt an arm pull on his clothes, it was a man , tryng to gain his footing.
Luckily, it was father , lain had not missed , gambling worked out for once.
"Are you hurt ?" Father started frantically looking for injuries on Lain. "Let us go , it is dangerous out here,"
Father carried Lain and started speed limping towards home .
Lain looked back at the war ground, and there lied the bad man , he for sure was not dead , but was definitely hurt . He would recover from this incident soon .
Lain look down , smiled at himself, the story of how he got his signature scar always gave him a chuckle , what a random occurrence.
What could have driven that kidnapper to Lain, and why was he insisting something about an abnormal. How peculiar.
Lain finally snapped back to reality, he was already at the shore , the rising sun was beautiful . Over the orange sea it glowed so elegantly.
Lain's morning stroll was finally over , now it's time to get mother her snacks.
