Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: Discovered

Chapter 58: Discovered

On a Saturday afternoon, downstairs at Bei Wei's apartment building.

Zhang Yang drove the Bentley to the parking area and immediately saw Bei Wei leaning on her bicycle, clearly waiting for a while.

"Brother Zhang," she greeted, smiling brightly, her long black hair and dress swaying as she bent slightly.

As Bei Wei leaned toward the car window, Zhang Yang caught the scent of her fragrant shampoo.

He got out, closed the door, and hugged the fresh, sweet Bei Wei. Then he looked at the bicycle beside her.

It was an old-fashioned bike, creaky just by sight, and he wondered where she had gotten it.

"Where did you buy this?"

"Found it at a flea market," Bei Wei said, wheeling the bike a few steps for him to see. "It looks old, but everything works perfectly."

"As long as it doesn't fall apart." Zhang Yang climbed onto the bicycle, tested it, then patted the back seat. "Hop on."

Bei Wei gently lifted her skirt and sat on the back, wrapping her arms around his waist.

In a moment, Zhang Yang pedaled lightly, carrying Bei Wei through the streets near her apartment, her laughter trailing behind him.

"Did you know today is the Beginning of Summer?"

"Beginning of Summer?" Zhang Yang blinked in realization.

Summer had already begun?

The breeze of early summer hit them. The girl on the bicycle's back seat and the girl in his Bentley's passenger seat were the same person. The feeling was unmistakably like love.

It turned out that one could truly have both youth and the feeling of youth at the same time.

Zhang Yang had never fallen into self-doubt over his previously mediocre life. He knew how to live in the moment. At least now, he had a perfect body, a handsome face, daily earnings of fifty thousand, and limitless potential for the future.

Money may not buy love, but when Zhang Yang glanced back occasionally, all he had to do was look, and he would see the sparkling light in Bei Wei's eyes.

Wasn't that enough?

Bei Wei sat on the back, hugging Zhang Yang's waist, occasionally looking up at his broad back and handsome profile, her heart swelling with sweetness.

"Huh? Why is Lao Xiang trying to reach me?" Zhang Yang felt his phone vibrate.

He pulled it out-it was a video call from Xiang Youde.

"Zhang Yang, let's meet this weekend. Talk about the changes in the company; I'm uneasy," Xiang Youde's round, worried face appeared on the screen, puffing on a cigarette.

"Meet? Bro, that's inconvenient for me," Zhang Yang said, glancing at Bei Wei on the back seat, smiling.

"What's wrong? I've asked you so many times and you always refuse. You think you're with a girlfriend now? Wake up!" Xiang Youde snorted.

Zhang Yang was speechless.

Why did Xiang Youde always have to stir things up?

"I really am busy. Really with someone?" Zhang Yang shook his head, smiling.

"Don't lie. Show me then! How much did you drink? Flirting with Bei Wei at the company, and now claiming to be with a girl privately? Zhang Yang, you're getting full of yourself!"

Bei Wei tugged lightly at Zhang Yang's sleeve.

He immediately understood, gently tilted the phone, and suddenly Bei Wei, hugging his waist with a sweet smile, appeared fully on the screen.

"Hello, Brother Xiang, good afternoon." Her black hair fluttered in the wind as she waved.

Xiang Youde's mouth gaped, eyes wide, staring at the screen, speechless for a long time.

After a while…

"Damn it! You really should be cursed! Harder than being killed!!"

"Ahhh!"

Xiang Youde's screams and despair were deafening. The impact on him was utterly devastating.

Eventually, Lao Xiang fell silent, face full of shock and disbelief.

"You, Zhang Yang! You're incredible!"

"You're amazing. Even someone driving a Porsche can't compete with you?"

"You're quietly doing big things behind the company's back? Especially keeping it from me? How can you call yourself my bro?"

Zhang Yang looked at Xiang Youde's frenzied expression and felt a twinge of sympathy.

"Lao Xiang, don't be like this."

"How can I stay calm? Zhang Yang, you're unbelievable, truly unbelievable!" Xiang Youde snapped and hung up the call.

Zhang Yang chuckled silently.

Lao Xiang had always assumed things were impossible. Now that the truth was right in front of him, he couldn't handle it.

At the company, Zhang Yang kept a low profile. The secret relationship with Bei Wei wasn't for any other reason-he simply liked the quiet, peaceful feeling.

An office romance, made public, would never allow such serenity.

But now, it didn't matter. If people knew, they knew.

All afternoon, Zhang Yang rode the bicycle with Bei Wei through Shanghai's old alleys, stopping occasionally to walk and enjoy the slowed pace of early summer.

By evening, after a simple dinner at an old restaurant, Zhang Yang brought Bei Wei back.

"Brother Zhang, did you… forget something?"

Downstairs at the apartment, Bei Wei stood cutely, looking up at his tall figure.

"Forget… what?" Zhang Yang asked, feigning confusion.

"This," Bei Wei said with a smile, tiptoeing to hug his neck and pressing her face close. "Zhang Yang, I really like you."

Hearing her whisper and feeling her warmth, Zhang Yang held her waist tightly, savoring the evening breeze.

Over the weekend, Zhang Yang received a video from his parents showing their new store's opening.

A small shop, the sign reading Haiqin Snacks, adorned with flower arrangements, giving a cheerful opening atmosphere.

"Look, your dad's busy!" Song Wenqin held up the phone in the kitchen, showing Zhang Yang his father, Zhang Zhaohai, bustling about.

In the video, Zhang Zhaohai looked full of energy, passionate and driven.

Though flushed from activity, being his own boss and spending his own earnings made the feeling entirely different.

The shop was fairly busy, with nearby construction workers and busy office staff coming in for meals.

"Looks good," Zhang Yang murmured appreciatively.

The future remained uncertain, but at this moment, the store had started on a strong note.

"All right, I've got to help your dad now," Song Wenqin said, laughing, hurriedly ending the call.

With only two people running the store, Zhang Zhaohai cooked while Song Wenqin handled the cash and serving.

According to his parents, the shop's current scale only required the two of them. If it expanded in the future, hiring helpers could come later.

Zhang Yang, idle for the moment, checked his recent cashback.

"Huh? Almost half a million again?"

After spending millions on raw stones, the system had returned nearly 500,000 yuan recently.

His total cash on hand was approaching 3.5 million.

Still, compared to his ultimate goal of ten million, there was a long way to go.
