Chapter 2 - Tidal Waves

The two were still laying in bed, however... The movie night was cut short by what sounded like cars being ripped apart.

Outside, the sky wasn't the usual colors of the setting sun anymore, it looked pitch black, with red and blue marks on them.

"Uh, Ursa?" Dee pointed a chip at the window. "Is the sky supposed to look like a glitchy video game?"

Ursa turned, dropping a half-eaten snack. "The Void Walkers! They're here! Dee, the window! Forget movie night, we have to go!"

Dee wanted to argue, but she didn't have time to. As a massive, shadowy claw smashed through her bedroom wall, sending bricks flying. She nearly tripped over her DVD player.

"Transformation start!"

The energy appeared around Dee again. In a blur of light, the purple skirt and mismatched socks returned. Dee jumped out of the huge hole in her wall, landing awkwardly on the pavement below. Behind her, three gigantic shadow beasts that were wreaking havoc in the streets of the city, Budapest.

"Okay, okay," Dee panted, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Inner strength. Determination. Uhm… inner peace?... Give me a weapon!"

She threw her hand out. And the necklace began to glow again.

The silver spork appeared in the air. Again. With a clanking sound, it landed in her hands.

"Are you kidding me?!" Dee yelled, dodging a swipe from a monster. "It's still that utensil! Why is it still this?! How am I supposed to 'Guardian' with this? Am I going to poke them to death?!"

"Aim for their cores!" Ursa hovered near her ear, dodging a glob of shadow-spit, and gestured frantically to where the hearts of the monsters were. "Channel the Balance or something!"

"Anything would be better than this!" Dee yelled back, gesturing to the spork.

One of the beasts looked confused before lunging forward to try and grab Dee by the head.

Dee backing up into the middle street. Car alarms were blaring, and the few people left on the sidewalk were running away, staring, or even taking pictures and videos of the fight.

The monster loomed over Dee, it raised a massive, spiked hand. Dee squeezed her eyes shut.

"I really should have stayed in bed…"

A splashing sound suddenly fills the air. Dee opens one of her eyes, and sees that a blue, shimmering, crystal sword has pierced through the monster.

The beast shrieked, then popped into many glittery sparkles.

Dee slowly looked up. Standing a few feet away was another, much taller girl, she was skinny, her hair was short, it was dark brown with a light blue steak in her hair. Wearing a pair of dark blue tight shorts, which connected with her cyan top, and she also had knee-high black combat boots.

She twirled her sword around, and looked down onto Dee.

Dee looked a bit scared, she quickly realized that she was staring at the girl. Ready for an insult about it, she looked away immediately.

But the girl just… held out her hand to help Dee get up.

"Are you okay, new girl?" she asked.

Dee hesitated, but took the girl's hand, and got up.

"Why are you holding a spork?"

"Ursa said that it's a multi-dimensional utensil…" Dee explained a bit shyly. Then she shook her head. "Who are you?.."

The girl pointed at herself. "My name is Cecilia. Guardian of the Waters. And if you don't want to be eaten by shadow spirits, then I suggest you stop looking at your reflection in that spoon and start moving."

"I… I can't turn it into a sword!" Dee shouted after Cecilia as the latter already ran towards the monsters.

"It's not about the shape, Dee! It's about the soul!" Ursa shrieked, diving behind Dee's head as another Shadow Walker lunged at them.

"Think about something sharp! Think piercing! Think... I don't know, a very large fork!" Cecilia yelled.

"A very large fork is still just a fork!" Dee shouted back.

The beast in front of her swiped a clawed hand. Instinct took over, and Dee didn't swing the spork like a sword, she placed it in front of herself.

To her absolute shock, the utensil suddenly glowed. The utensil grew into a sickle, and the handle extended into an obsidian staff.

The point buried itself into the monster's chest. The creature let out a screech, and dissolved into a puddle of violet goo.

"Whoa," Dee breathed, staring at her new weapon. "Okay. I can work with this."

"See? I told you!" Ursa cheered, doing a victory loop. "Your spirit is just... pointy!"

Across them, Cecilia was a blur of motion. She moved gracefully, like a river. She stopped in front of a monster, and made finger guns.

"Water!" she shouted, and out came a wave of water from her hands. And it took out the remaining two monsters in just a few seconds.

Cecilia threw her blade up, and it disappeared into the air. The water magically evaporated too. She turned to Dee.

"A sickle? Not my type of weapon, but it's cool. I guess…" Cecilia said, walking over. She looked up at the hole in the side of the apartment building.

"Is that your room? You're lucky you didn't get squashed in your sleep. Most of us get picked up by the scouts before the Void Walkers find our coordinates." she shot a glare at Ursa.

"I was… busy…" Ursa huffed, crossing their tiny arms. "The necklace was... misplaced. It was a whole thing involving a field and a very clumsy human."

"Hey!" Dee protested, her outfit flickering. "I found it fair and square. Also, 'coordinates'? Are they tracking me now?"

Cecilia sighed, looking up at the glitching sky. The red and blue marks were fading, but the air still felt heavy.

"I'm calling Harley… she'll fix the air…"

"Who's Harley?" Dee asked, looking at the ruined wall of her apartment, knowing very well that the police were most likely already on their way.

"She's the Guardian of Air." Cecilia explained, and floated up to the wall. "With the powers bestowed upon me. I declare this wall: Fixed." she sang, and the destroyed part of the building was magically restored.

"Woah…" was all Dee said.

"I know, it's a thing."

"So... what now?" Dee asked, her voice smaller than before. "Do I have to go to a secret base? A magic school? Or am I moving into a van?"

Cecilia actually cracked a tiny smile. "Not really… We all just basically live our own lives while saving the world, but the other four Guardians are still missing…"

"Speaking of 'Guardians', what's your element?" Ursa questioned, floating close to Dee's face again. "I can't feel your energy. If the necklace bonded with you, it means you have magic."

"I… don't know…" she shook her head.

Ursa looked at Dee suspiciously. But Cecilia chimed in.

"It's okay! Really. It took me six days to realize mine!"

Dee blinked in shock. "Six… days?"

"Yup!" Cecilia clapped her hands together.

"Six days?!" Dee's voice cracked. "I don't have six days! I have a brother who's going to notice that his older sister is always disappearing and becoming a glitter girl!"

"Actually,' Ursa interrupted. "Nobody will know you are a guardian, your appearance changes when you transform. Right now, we need to get you out of the street before the police start asking why a girl in a purple skirt is carrying a giant obsidian sickle."

"She's right," Cecilia nodded. "Someone special will be here in five minutes to clean the area. So we need to go."

Dee looked at the sickle in her hands, she looked around and saw nobody around, so she de-transformed.

"Well, this was fun, but I gotta go back home. My mom will be home soon." she explained, walking inside the building.

"Okay. Then… bye!" Cecilia waved her hand and flew away.

Ursa went inside the house and entered after Dee.

"Why are you following me?" Dee asked.

"I have to stay with the necklace, it's what I have to protect." Ursa explained. "And today sucked, but... you're not that bad at being a magical girl."

"Uhm... thank you..." Dee tried to hide her smile, but she couldn't, so she just ran up the stairs.

"There's an elevator, why take the stairs?" Ursa asked.

"I like running."

"Who even likes that?!" Ursa shouted after her, and they flew up the stairs.

Out in the city, the same man's figure, the one who sent the monsters, stood on top of the building, watching everything, the wind blowing through his blonde hair, taking the mask he was wearing off and pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance.

"Disappointing."

With a sigh, he opened a portal, and went through it.

Arriving in a different dimension, he saw where a tall woman with long purple hair stood in front of him, looking outside of a window to the dark and empty void.

"I'm back~" he said in a cheerful tone.

"That went poorly, didn't it?" the woman questioned, not turning around.

"I suppose so. But I found another Guardian," the man replied. "All that matters now is that we end them. Right?"

"Hold your horses, Falcon," the woman ordered, finally turning around, revealing her to have glowing pink eyes. "I didn't allow you to exit this dimension so you can go around and take the lives of people."

"Then what? You know I hate doing things like that!" the man, Falcon, argued.

"Yes, you will be subtle."

Falcon rolled his eyes, and mumbled. "You do subtle..."

"What did you just say?!" the woman asked furiously.

"Nothing. Nothing... I didn't say anything, Amentia."

"Then go!" the lady ordered, pointing a finger to an opening portal behind Falcon.

After he stepped through the portal, the woman, Amentia, crossed her arms and turned back around to look out of the window.

"Once I get my powers back, I will make sure that they all pay for this..."
