Chapter 94 - Chapter 93- Double Game

(Jay's POV)

My life as a secret agent started exactly three days ago. It did not start with a cool black suit or a fast car. It started with a text message. I was sitting on the couch when I saw Keifer's phone light up on the table. The message was from a company called London Couture. It talked about Italian silk, French lace, and white pearls.

Any normal woman would think her fiancé was buying a nice dress. But I knew Keifer. Keifer was a man who loved jokes. He was a giant kid who spent his weekends planning funny tricks. Just last month, he put a fake spider in my cereal box. So, when he panicked and told me he was buying a luxury office chair with pearls for back comfort and lace for air ventilation, I did not believe him for one second. A pearl chair? Lace for air? Nice try, Keifer. I knew the truth. He was planning a massive prank to scare me.

"I am onto you," I whispered to myself as I checked my backpack.

The next morning, I woke up early with a brand new plan. I was done running away from the boutique. I failed my first mission in London boutique because I ran out too fast, but a true spy never gives up. I sat at the kitchen table and opened a secret map of our house.

"If Keifer is planning a prank, he needs a place to hide his notes," I whispered to myself.

I decided to start a full house search while Keifer was at company. I put on a pair of bright yellow rubber cleaning gloves so I would not leave any fingerprints.

Ok, so this is what we call investigation.

I started in the living room. I looked under the couch cushions. I looked inside the big flower pots. I even looked behind the television. Nothing.

Then, I went into our bedroom and looked inside his closet. Deep in the back, behind his winter coats, I found a small black notebook. My heart began to race. I opened it quickly.

Inside, there were sketches of weird shapes with arrows pointing to words like "soft fabric" and "shiny details."

"This is it," I gasped. "This is the blueprint for the prank."

I immediately called the one and only, Freya. "Freya, come over right now. I found the secret notebook. Bring your binoculars."

"I am on my way!" Freya shouted. When Freya arrived, we did not just sit in the house. We decided to set up a lookout post. Freya parked her black car directly across the street from our house. We sat in the front seats wearing large hats. Freya held a pair of big black binoculars, pointing them at our own front door.

"Why are we looking at your house if we are already inside it?" Freya asked, looking confused through the glass.

"Because we need to practice being invisible," I explained, looking very serious. "If Keifer comes home early again, we need to see him before he sees us. We are tracking his every move."

We sat there for an hour, eating potato chips and watching the empty street. I felt like a real professional. No one could trick me now.

Hahahahhahahahhahahaha!!! (Peak villain laugh guys!)

(Keifer's POV)

A few weeks ago, I started planning the biggest surprise of Jay's life. I was working with a top boutique in London to create a beautiful, custom item for her. I wanted everything to be perfect. The silk was from Italy, the lace was from France, and the pearls were real. It was going to be amazing. But then, three days ago, she saw a text message on my phone.

I panicked. I could not let her know about the surprise. I wanted it to be an absolute secret. So, my brain broke, and I told her the most foolish lie ever. I told her I was ordering a luxury office chair with pearls and lace.

The moment the words left my mouth, I wanted to hit myself. A pearl chair? Who buys that? But Jay's eyes went wide, and I could see the wheels turning in her head. She did not believe me.

She thought I was planning a joke. It was the funniest thing I had ever seen. I decided right then to let her play her game.

Then I suddenly got call from Edrix.

"Hey man," Edrix said, laughing over the phone. "I think mutya is on a mission again."

"What do you mean?" I asked, turning the car corner.

"Freya just called me," Edrix explained. "She sounded super nervous. She accidentally said something about sitting in a car with Jay. Man, I think they are watching your house. Like dayumn!"

I laughed so hard I almost missed my turn. Jay was watching our own house? My sweet, crazy Wifey was playing spy in the driveway.

"Don't tell Freya you told me," I told Edrix. "Let's see what Jay does next. This is too good."

I drove down our street very slowly. As I got closer, I spotted a black car parked across from my driveway. Inside the car, I could clearly see two people. One of them had a bright pink hat, and the other had a giant straw hat. The person in the pink hat was holding a pair of large black binoculars, pointing them directly at my front porch. It was Freya and Jay. They were spying on the house from twenty feet away.

I parked my car right behind them. They were so busy looking at the house that they did not even hear my engine. I got out of my car, walked quietly over to the passenger side, and tapped on the glass.

Jay jumped so high her straw hat hit the roof of the car. Freya dropped the binoculars onto the floor.

"Wifey! Hello Freya," I said smoothly, leaning against the window. "Are you looking for something?"

Jay rolled down the window very slowly. She tried to look completely calm, but her face was bright red. "Keifer! Wow! What a surprise!"

"What are you doing in Freya's car?" I asked, trying to keep a straight face.

"We are... testing the car's heater," Jay lied quickly. "Yes. The heater in this car is amazing. We wanted to feel it."

"In July?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"It is a very special kind of heat," Freya blurted out.

"And what about the binoculars?" I pointed to the floor.

"Oh, those?" Jay laughed, though her voice sounded like a little bird. "We were looking for... a rare bird. A pink bird. We heard it lives in our gutter."

"Right. A pink gutter bird," I said. I reached inside and patted Jay's hand. "Well, when you are done bird-watching, come inside. I have some news about the office chair."

I walked back to the house, smiling to myself. She really thought she was a master of secrets. She had no idea that I knew everything. I loved her so much for this. But now, it was my turn to have some fun. If she wanted to play a game of secrets, I was going to give her the best game ever.

(Keifer's POV)

The next morning, Jay was eating breakfast that I made for her. I walked into the kitchen wearing my formal suit. I had a big plan. If Jay thought I was buying a crazy chair for a prank, I was going to make the chair sound as real as possible.

"Hey, wifey," I said, taking a piece of toast. "The company called me back about the office chair. The London Couture one."

Jay almost dropped the frying pan. She turned around slowly. "Oh? The chair? What did they say?"

"Well," I said, looking very serious. "They said the pearl back support takes a long time to make. They need to know if the pearls should be large or small. Since it is for our company office, I wanted your opinion. Large pearls are better for the lower back, but small pearls look more luxury."

Jay stared at me. I could see her brain working hard to understand my words. She was trying to figure out if this was a trick.

"I think... small pearls," she said carefully. "Small pearls sound very... ergonomic."

"Perfect," I said, tapping my phone. "I will text the designer right now. Oh, and they also asked about the lace ventilation. They have white lace or pink lace. I went with white. White lace keeps the chair cooler during long meetings."

"White lace," Jay repeated. Her voice was flat. She looked like she wanted to scream. "For a chair. Right."

"Exactly. I knew you would understand," I said. I gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "I have to go to work now. Edrix and I have a big meeting. See you tonight!"

I left the house, feeling like a king. I could not wait to see what she would do next.

(Author's POV)

As soon as the front door closed, Jay dropped the spatula. She ran to her phone and dialed Freya's number.

"Freya! He is insane!" Jay yelled into the phone. "He is sticking to the chair story! He just asked me about pearl sizes for the back support! He is building a monster prank device! I know it!"

"No way," Freya said. She was at home, sitting on her bed. "A pearl chair? Jay, what if he is actually building a giant throne to make fun of you at his next party?"

"That is exactly what he is doing," Jay said, pacing up and down the living room. "He wants me to sit on a ridiculous lace chair in front of everyone. I cannot let him win this game. We need to go back to the boutique in London. We need to see what is under that white cloth."

"But the designer saw you three days ago," Freya reminded her. "You ran out screaming about an office chair emergency. He will know who you are."

Jay smiled a dark, secret agent smile. "He saw a woman in a trench coat and sunglasses. Today, he will see two completely different people. Get your keys, Freya. We are going back to boutique."

Two hours later, Jay and Freya were standing outside London Couture. This time, they had a new plan. They were dressed as painters. They wore white overalls, big caps, and carried empty paint cans that they found in Freya's garage. Jay even painted a fake mustache on her face with a brown marker.

"Do I look like a painter?" Jay asked, adjusting her cap.

"You look like a person who is about to get arrested," Freya said, looking nervous. "Why do I have to carry the heavy ladder?"

"Because you are the assistant," Jay said. "Now, look professional. We are here to touch up the walls in the back room."

They walked into the boutique. The same tall designer with the small mustache was standing by the counter. He looked up and saw two girls in white overalls carrying a ladder and empty paint cans.

"Can I help you?" the designer asked, narrowing his eyes.

Jay cleared her throat and spoke in a deep voice. "Hello. We are from the... London Paint Company. We were called to fix the white paint in the back room. Very important. High emergency."

The designer stared at Jay's face. He stared at the fake mustache. "The back room? I did not call for any paint updates."

"It was a surprise order!" Freya blurted out. "From... Keifer! He wanted the walls to match his new... chair!"

The designer stopped. He looked at Freya, then at Jay. Suddenly, a light went on in his eyes. He realized exactly what was happening. This was the same girl from before, but now she had a mustache. He knew Keifer was planning a special surprise, and he realized Keifer's fiancé was completely crazy. The designer loved drama. He decided to play along.

"Ah, yes," the designer said, hiding a smile. "The walls must match the... chair. Of course. Come with me to the back room."

Jay and Freya followed him. Jay gave Freya a quiet high-five behind her back. They were in.

The back room was exactly the same. The giant object was still there, sitting under the big white cloth. It looked beautiful and mysterious.

"Here are the walls," the designer said, pointing to a perfectly clean white wall. "Take your time. I will leave you to your... paint."

The designer walked out and closed the door. The moment he was gone, Jay dropped her paint can.

"This is it, Freya," Jay whispered. "The secret is under this cloth. Help me lift it."

They walked over to the giant object. Jay reached out her hands and grabbed the edge of the white cloth. Her heart was pounding. She was finally going to see the ultimate prank.

But before she could pull it, the heavy door flew open.

Jay and Freya jumped back, dropping the cloth. Jay quickly picked up her paint brush and started brushing the clean wall with nothing on it. Freya froze, holding the ladder like a shield.

It was not the designer. It was Keifer and Edrix.

Keifer was standing in the doorway, holding a cup of coffee. Edrix was next to him, looking like he wanted to laugh out loud.

"Well, well, well," Keifer said, looking around the room. "The walls really do look like they need some work."

Jay turned around slowly. She forgot about the fake mustache on her face. "Keifer! What are you doing here?"

"I had a meeting nearby with investors," Keifer said, walking into the room. He walked right up to Jay. He looked at her white overalls. He looked at the brown marker mustache on her lip. He smiled, and his eyes were full of love and fun. "I didn't know you started a painting business, Jay. And nice mustache. It really suits you."

Jay quickly wiped her face with her hand, smudging the marker everywhere. "I can explain. Freya and I were... helping a local business. We are volunteering!"

"Yes!" Freya yelled from behind the ladder. "We love community service!"

Edrix could not hold it anymore. He burst out laughing. "Man, Keifer, I told you! They look like characters from a cartoon!"

"Edrix!" Freya snapped. "Shut up!"

Keifer walked over to the giant object under the white cloth. Jay held her breath. Was he going to show her the prank chair? Was the game over?

Keifer put his hand on the cloth. He looked at Jay. He knew how much she wanted to know. But he also knew the surprise would be ruined if she saw it now. He had to save the secret, but he also wanted to tease her one last time.

"You know, Jay," Keifer said, his voice soft and warm. "This office chair is very special. It is a secret design. If you look at it before it is finished, the magic disappears. You wouldn't want to ruin my back comfort, would you?"

Jay looked at Keifer. She saw the gentle spark in his eyes. She knew he loved her. She still thought it was a prank chair, but she realized how much this project meant to him. Even if it was a joke, he was working hard on it.

Jay sighed and dropped her paint brush. "Fine. I won't look. But if this chair has giant pearls that hurt my back when I visit your office, I am throwing it away."

"Deal," Keifer laughed. He reached out and grabbed her hand, pulling her away from the cloth. "Now, let's get you two painters some lunch. My treat as always."

As they all walked out of the boutique, Keifer looked back at the white cloth one last time. The beautiful surprise was safe. The mystery was still alive. Jay walked beside him, holding his hand tightly, still trying to rub the marker off her face. She was already planning her next spy mission, and Keifer could not wait to see what disguise she would choose next....
