Chapter 50 - The Way Back Home....

JAY'S POV

The flight to Manila felt like a dream I was terrified of waking up from. Every time the plane hit a pocket of turbulence, I gripped Keifer's hand tighter, my heart racing. It wasn't just the travel; it was the anticipation.

For seven years, the Philippines had been a place of ghosts and longing. Now, it was the place where I would finally close the circle.

Landing in Manila felt different this time. The humidity that clung to my skin, the chaotic roar of the traffic, the scent of street food and rain—it all felt like a welcoming embrace.

When the car finally pulled up to the curb of the house, I froze. I didn't remember the exact layout of the street, but the feeling of belonging hit me the moment I saw the gate.

This was the sanctuary where I had once found peace.

Keifer stepped out first, then reached back for me. As I stepped onto the pavement, he didn't let go.

He entwined his fingers with mine, his grip firm and grounding. He knew I was shaking.

"Deep breaths, Jay Jay," he whispered, leaning down to press a kiss to my temple. "They love you. They've never stopped loving you."

We walked up the path together, every step feeling heavier than the last. When we reached the doorstep, Keifer paused.

He looked at me, his eyes reflecting a mixture of nervousness and absolute certainty. He squeezed my hand one last time before reaching out to ring the doorbell.

The chime echoed through the house.

A few moments later, the sound of footsteps approached. The door swung open, revealing a woman with a kind face and eyes that radiated warmth.

She looked older than I imagined, but there was a grace about her that felt familiar.

She looked at Keifer first. A small, knowing smile touched her lips. "Keifer," she said softly. "It's been a long time."

They had known each other, of course. Keifer had remained a tether to the people I had lost. But then, her gaze shifted.

She looked at me.

The smile on her face didn't just fade—it froze. Her breath hitched, and for a long second, she simply stared at me as if I were a ghost appearing in the midday sun.

I didn't know her. Not personally. But I knew who she was from the stories and the photos the boys had shared and the one picture of her with my kuya in the section e building.

This was Ion, Angelo's wife. For seven years, she had been the one keeping the flame alive, the one who had heard every detail of my life from Keifer and the boys.

Ion's eyes filled with tears instantly. Her hand flew to her mouth to stifle a sob. She didn't even say hello; she didn't have to. The sheer shock and joy on her face said everything.

Suddenly, she turned and screamed toward the interior of the house, her voice echoing through the halls.

"ANGELO! ANGELO, COME DOWN HERE RIGHT NOW!"

The urgency in her voice brought a response almost immediately. I heard heavy footsteps thundering down the stairs, the sound of someone rushing in a hurry, probably thinking something was wrong.

"Ion? What happened? What's—"

Angelo rounded the corner and skidded to a halt in the doorway.

He stopped dead in his tracks.

The air between us seemed to vanish. Angelo stood there, frozen, his chest heaving from the run.

He looked at me—really looked at me—and I saw the exact moment he recognized me. I saw the seven years of worry, the grief, the hope, and the unconditional love crash over him all at once.

His eyes widened, shimmering with unshed tears, and his voice came out as a broken, breathless whisper.

"...Jay?"

I couldn't hold it back anymore. The moment the word left his lips, the dam finally broke.

"Kuya..." I sobbed, my voice small and trembling, sounding more like the broken girl who had left than the woman who had returned.

Kuya Angelo didn't just walk toward me; he lunged. He closed the distance in two strides, his arms wrapping around me with a force that nearly knocked the wind out of me.

I clung to him, burying my face in his chest, sobbing uncontrollably. It was a primal, cleansing kind of grief and joy—the feeling of a missing piece of my soul finally clicking back into place.

"You're here... you're actually here," Angelo choked out, his voice thick with tears. He pulled back just enough to cup my face in his large hands, his thumbs brushing away my tears even as his own flowed freely.

"Where have you been, Jay? Do you know how much we missed you? My god, you're home. You're finally home.I'm sorry Jay...."

We were both a crying mess, clinging to each other in the doorway, oblivious to the rest of the world.

Keifer stood just behind me, his hand resting gently on my shoulder. I could tell he was emotional too; he knew exactly what this meant. He knew that for me, this wasn't just a visit—it was a homecoming.

The commotion had drawn more attention. From the hallway, the soft sound of a gasp echoed through the house.

I turned my head slightly and saw her.

Tita Gema.

She was standing there, clutching a kitchen towel in her hands, which she slowly let drop to the floor. She froze, her entire body trembling.

Her eyes, so full of the maternal warmth I had craved for seven long years, searched my face as if she were trying to memorize every detail to make sure I wasn't a hallucination.

"Jay?" she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Is it really you, anak?"

"Tita..." I gasped, breaking away from Angelo's embrace and running toward her.

I collided with her, and she let out a loud, heartbreaking cry, pulling me into the scent of home—vanilla, garlic, and that unmistakable warmth that only a mother's love provides.

She held me so tightly I could feel her heart beating against mine, her hand stroking the back of my head over and over again.

"My baby... my sweet girl," she wailed, kissing my forehead, my cheeks, my hair. "I never stopped praying for you. Not a single day. I told Angelo, I told everyone, I knew you'd find your way back to us."

Ion joined in, wrapping her arms around both of us, her quiet sobs adding to the symphony of reunion.

We were a tangle of limbs and tears, a heap of love and forgiveness right there in the living room.

Eventually, the initial shock transitioned into a frantic, beautiful chaos. Tita Gema refused to let go of my hand for even a second, practically dragging me into the dining room.

"You're too thin! Look at you! Keifer, did you not feed her in London?" she scolded him with a tearful laugh, though she reached out to pat his cheek affectionately.

"I tried, Tita," Keifer joked, his voice sounding thick. "But she's stubborn. She only eats when she's arguing with me."

"That's my Jay!" Angelo laughed, throwing an arm around my shoulders and pulling me close.

The house was suddenly alive. The smell of freshly cooked sinigang and adobo filled the air—dishes that tasted like childhood and safety.

We sat around the large wooden table, the same table where I had shared countless meals years ago.

The conversation was a whirlwind of laughter, stories, and more tears. They wanted to know everything—about my law degree, about my life in New York and London, and eventually, the conversation shifted to Keifer.

Tita Gema looked at us, seeing the way Keifer looked at me—with a devotion that was almost tangible—and the way I leaned into him, completely safe.

"You two..." she murmured, a soft smile on her face. "You finally figured it out, didn't you?"

I looked up at Keifer and smiled, my heart feeling lighter than it had in a decade. I reached under the table and squeezed his hand.

"We did, Tita," I whispered. "We finally found our way back."

For the first time in seven years, as I looked around the room at Angelo, Ion, Tita Gema, and Keifer, I didn't feel the weight of the past. I didn't feel the guilt or the pain. I just felt the warmth of a family that had never stopped waiting for me.

I was no longer running. I was home. The evening had settled into a cozy, golden warmth.

We were all sprawled in the living room, the air thick with the scent of home and the lingering comfort of a full meal.

I was tucked into Keifer's side, his arm draped over my shoulders, pulling me close as if he still feared I might vanish if he let go.

As the conversation drifted, a name I hadn't heard in years crossed my mind. I sat up slightly, looking at Angelo.

"What about Aries?" I asked softly. "Is he... is he coming?"

Angelo smiled, a genuine, happy expression. "He's just leaving the office. He had to pick up the little one first. He should be here any minute."

I blinked, confused. "The little one?"

Ion giggled, leaning forward. "Yeah,Angelo and mine daughter....Elena..and he is also picking up his wife, Ella."

My jaw practically dropped. "Aries? Married?that to..ELLA!!!I... I can't even process that!"

Everyone burst into laughter, and even Keifer chuckled, kissing the top of my head.

"Welcome to adulthood, Jay Jay. Everyone grows up eventually."

Just as the laughter died down, the doorbell rang.

The door opened, and Aries walked in, looking every bit the mature man—crisp office shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a leather briefcase in one hand, and a small, energetic girl clinging to his other leg. Beside him was Ella, radiant and smiling.

"We're home!" Aries called out, his voice deeper than I remembered.

The moment he stepped fully into the light of the living room, the atmosphere shifted.

Aries froze. He stopped mid-stride, his grip on his daughter's hand tightening slightly. He stared at me, his eyes widening in absolute shock. It was the same expression Angelo and Tita Gema had worn—that look of someone seeing a miracle they had stopped daring to hope for.

I felt the tears prickling my eyes again. "Hi, Aries."

Aries didn't say a word for a few seconds; he just exhaled a long, shaky breath. Then, he practically dropped his briefcase and stepped forward, pulling me into a crushing hug that smelled of expensive cologne and old memories.

"You brat," he whispered, his voice cracking. "You absolute brat for staying away so long,I missed you so much monkey!!"

I laughed through my sobs, hugging him back just as hard. "I missed you too, you old man!"

Beside us, Ella stepped forward. Our reunion wasn't as explosive as the ones with the boys or Angelo—we hadn't been as close—but the warmth was there. She gave me a soft, meaningful smile and pulled me into a gentle hug.

"It's so good to see you Jay," Ella whispered. "We're so glad you're back."

"Thank you for taking care of him," I teased, wiping my eyes. "I know he can be a handful."

While the adults were caught up in their emotional whirlwind, a tiny voice piped up from the floor.

"Papa? Who is she?"

All eyes turned to the little girl. She was adorable—wearing a little yellow dress with curly hair and huge, expressive eyes that looked like they held a thousand questions.

"Elena!" Angelo called out, opening his arms.

The little girl shrieked with joy and sprinted toward her father, but as she reached him, she paused, looking back at me with curiosity.

I knelt down on the carpet, bringing myself to her level. I felt my heart melt instantly. Up close, the resemblance was uncanny.

"Hi, Elena," I whispered, my voice trembling with affection. "I'm your Tita Jay."

Elena tilted her head, staring at me with those wide, soulful eyes. I looked up at Angelo, then back at the little girl.

"Oh my god," I breathed, a tear falling down my cheek. "Kuya... she has your eyes. Exactly your eyes."

Angelo let out a wet laugh, picking up Elena and settling her on his hip. "She does, doesn't she? She's got my eyes, but she definitely has Ion's stubbornness."

"Hey that's so wrong she has YOUR arrogance and stubbornness!" Ion shreiked.

Elena reached out a tiny hand and touched my cheek, her expression sweet and innocent. "Are you a princess? Because you are so beautiful just like those pictures in the book!!!" she asked softly.

I let out a sob-filled laugh and pulled Elena into a hug, while Keifer reached over to wrap his arms around all of us.

Tita Gema and Ion joined in, and suddenly, we were just one giant, tangled mass of people—crying, laughing, and holding onto each other as if we would never let go again.

The house was full. The silence of the last seven years was finally gone, replaced by the beautiful, chaotic noise of a family restored.

I closed my eyes, breathing in the scent of the people I loved, and for the first time in my life, I knew exactly where I belonged.....
