Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Real and Fake Heiress

"Is being careful of any use? I see other people's systems have so many functions, like acting as surveillance, hacking into networks to record videos, or GPS tracking. Some can even help their Host trade stocks and make big money. Tell me, what can you do?" Ning Yue asked.

009 thought to itself that tracking was impossible, and trading stocks to make money was even more impossible. As for hacking networks, that was illegal! It would never do that!

After holding back for a long time, 009 finally said, "...I can give my Host directions."

Ning Yue immediately scoffed.

She thought to herself, "Fine, this function is actually pretty useful to me."

009 suddenly felt a wave of guilt. "Um, Host, I'm still just an initial-level system right now. Isn't it normal not to have that many functions? Once I get some energy later, I can upgrade, and upgrading will unlock more functions."

Therefore, it hoped its Host would work hard to complete missions, otherwise, it would be doomed to remain a mere navigation system.

Ning Yue simply ignored it. She earnestly finished her morning exercises and returned to the classroom with her classmates to continue her lessons.

Li Danting, the girl with the round face, had originally wanted to invite Ning Yue to get lunch together at the cafeteria. However, Ning Yue said she had things to do at noon, so Li Danting had to go by herself.

Ning Yue really did have things to do. She had to open a bank account first, then head to the Welfare Lottery Center to claim her prize. Mr. Ning and Ning's mother had spent tens of thousands on her yesterday. After raising Yan Qingqing in luxury for over a decade, they hadn't been able to save much. Following yesterday's spending spree, they probably didn't have much money left on hand. She couldn't keep spending her parents' money.

Getting a bank card was easy. As long as she was sixteen, had a temporary ID, and had passed her birthday, she could open an account. But claiming the lottery prize was a bit more troublesome because she had to wait for the staff to start their shift.

This wait lasted for nearly two hours, and she wasted a bit more time at the lottery center. Thinking that she had already taken the day off anyway, Ning Yue decided to just head straight home.

Sitting on her bed, she sorted through the original owner's memories. She found a few rather interesting events, all of which happened within this year.

The first event was that on November 17th, someone jumped off a building and committed suicide right next to the First High School. The person involved was Li Zhengmin, the CEO of Lihua Company. He died on the spot. Immediately after, Lihua Company plunged into turmoil, and its stock prices plummeted. Not long after, news came out that his wife had sold off her entire forty percent stake in the company, completely changing the company's ownership.

This happened right next to the school, exactly when evening self-study had ended. Many students had gone to see the scene. Jumping from the twenty-seventh floor—one could easily imagine what it looked like when he hit the ground. One student in her class didn't even come to school the next day because he was so traumatized. Since it was on the news and her classmate was too scared to attend school, the original owner had a very deep impression of this incident.

The second event was that Yan Haotian, who worked as an investment manager for the Yan Family, secretly used the company's public funds to buy a certain stock. He was almost accused of embezzlement, but he was incredibly lucky. That stock suddenly skyrocketed, and in just a month, he made a massive fortune.

It was also because of this that Yan Haotian quickly established a firm foothold in the company, laying the foundation for him to take over the CEO position of the Yan Family in the future.

Having made a huge profit and gained the approval of the company's shareholders and executives, Yan Haotian was overjoyed. Just two days later, he bought his biological sister a Heart of Paris pendant, which cost a whopping ten million. Yan Qingqing constantly showed off that necklace in front of the original owner. The original owner could only force a smile. Even though they were both daughters, before the Yan Family members knew they were switched at birth, the original owner had never received such an expensive gift. Her jewelry was almost always bought only when she had to attend important occasions, and the most expensive piece was no more than a few hundred thousand to a million. There wasn't a single one worth ten million.

One could only say that not being biologically related made all the difference. Without that blood connection, even when neither side knew the truth, they naturally wouldn't grow close.

The third event was that in March of next year, the price of pork would skyrocket. It would rise from the current price of about ten yuan per half-kilo to thirty-six or thirty-seven yuan, and the whole process took less than three months.

It wasn't that Yan Ningyue cared about pork prices, but back then, as long as one turned on their phone or TV, they would see this news. Especially when scrolling through short videos of mukbangs, there would be a long string of comments below saying they couldn't afford to eat meat because pork was just too expensive. In some places, pork ribs even reached over fifty yuan per half-kilo.

Listing out the three events that would happen soon, Ning Yue felt that if she couldn't rely on these three things to make a huge profit and accumulate her initial capital, then she could basically give up on the idea of taking revenge for the original owner. It would be hopeless.

She searched online for some information about Lihua Company. Because Lihua was a listed company with a market value of tens of billions, a quick keyword search brought up a lot of related information, including photos of the Li Family couple.

There were still four days until November 17th.

Around half past five, the sound of the front door opening came from outside. Ning Yue stepped out of her room to take a look and heard voices outside the door.

"Yo, Old Ning, I heard your daughter lived in the Yan family for over a decade. I hear that in those wealthy families, birthday gifts can pile up like mountains. No matter how stingy the Yan family might be, she shouldn't be short of money to spend. Haven't you two asked her to take some out for you to use?"

Ning Yue raised an eyebrow. That voice undoubtedly belonged to the domestically abused woman from that night.

Ning's mother's voice quickly rang out, clearly carrying a hint of annoyance. "No matter how rich the Yan family is, it's their money. It has nothing to do with our Ning Family. My husband and I can still work, so it's even more impossible for us to ask our daughter for money. Alright, my daughter will be back soon, and I need to prepare dinner. I won't chat with you anymore."

Immediately following was a loud BANG as the door closed. However, even with the door between them, Ning Yue could still hear the woman's loud voice.

"Hmph, what are you so arrogant about? You make it sound nice, but isn't it just that your biological daughter is too stingy to spend her money on you!"

Ning's mother's expression grew even uglier. Ning Yue opened her bedroom door and walked out. "Mom."

Ning's mother and Mr. Ning were startled. "Why are you at home? Are you feeling unwell? Why didn't you ask your dad to pick you up?"

Ning's mother had just mentioned making dinner for her daughter casually as an excuse. As long as it wasn't a holiday, the children were supposed to come back only after evening self-study. Including the travel time, she wouldn't normally be home until around ten o'clock. Moreover, the schedules for all the high schools were pretty much the same.

At the Yan family's home.

When Yan Qingqing returned, her expression clearly showed her displeasure.

Father Yan and Yan Haotian had social engagements today and hadn't come home. Only Mrs. Yan was in the living room.

"My sweet daughter, what's wrong? Are you having trouble adjusting to the new school? Or did someone bully you? Tell Mom, and I'll go to the school and find your principal. Our family just donated ten million to the First High School; how could they let my daughter suffer any grievances?"
