The male colleague sized up Jonathan Thorne. Anyone living near Springhill Manor had to be well-off, but he couldn't recall ever seeing such a prominent figure in Graymoor before. He exchanged a polite greeting with Jonathan and then quickly departed.
When it was just Zoe Monroe and Jonathan Thorne, their eyes met. His gaze was deep, churning with unspoken intensity.
"Who was that...?"
Jonathan Thorne leaned in a little closer. He carried a cool, clean scent, laced with a faint trace of tobacco. As he drew near, she felt a searing heat from his presence.
"A colleague," Zoe Monroe said, clutching the bouquet in her arms tighter.
"Just... a colleague?"
Jonathan Thorne's gaze was so intense it made Zoe Monroe's heart inexplicably flutter with panic. She forced herself to remain calm. "He's just a regular colleague."
"And colleagues need to hug?"
