The man's voice was as deep and husky as ever, but his words were cold and detached.
"No, I don't have time."
His flat, emotionless voice rejected Olivia Wynne's invitation.
Her hand gripping the phone tightened unconsciously, and her voice dropped. "Oh. Well, you're busy then."
With that, Olivia Wynne quickly hung up.
She'd rarely extended an invitation, only to be rejected. It was a terrible feeling.
Meanwhile, the man stared at the disconnected call, his eyes darkening.
Liam Lanier stood frozen, holding his breath. Only after he saw Zachary Fairchild put down his phone did he dare to take a step forward.
"Director, was that a call from Miss Wynne?"
"Do you have too much time on your hands?" Zachary Fairchild's sharp gaze shot toward Liam Lanier.
"No, I'm very busy! I still have documents to type up. I'll be going now, Director."
Liam Lanier turned to leave, but Zachary Fairchild's voice stopped him.
"Come back."
