Chapter 225 - The Beginning of the Reckoning

Chapter 225: The Beginning of the Reckoning

"Omnimon... you are very powerful. I hope... you can use this power to protect more Digimon."

"Omnimon, I knew you could do it~"

"Omnimon, I'll leave everything that follows to you~"

"Omnimon. Omnimon..."

"Om—ni—mon!!!"

The fragmented, echoing voices of the past were violently shattered by a furious roar. The stagnant air tore apart as a pair of razor-sharp Dramon Killers closed the distance in a fraction of a second, the metallic claws gleaming with lethal intent.

Within Omnimon's sole remaining, dimming eye, the blazing figure of the newcomer rapidly expanded, reflecting against the cracked lens.

"War...Greymon X..."

"It's me! I've come to collect my debt from you!!"

The dragon warrior's eyes burned with an unquenchable, raging fire. What drove his armored body forward was a fury as scorching as the sun itself, a desperate need to tear through the suffocating darkness. WarGreymon X had sworn upon his very core to completely destroy the twisted shadows of the past right here, right now.

"Omnimon, it is time—to settle everything!"

"Great Tornado!!!"

Facing WarGreymon X's blinding surprise attack, Omnimon's corrupted body reacted on pure instinct, raising its heavy, mismatched arms to block the incoming drill of fire and steel.

The impact was deafening. Even with his guard up, the sheer, overwhelming kinetic force pushed the fallen Royal Knight backward, his feet carving deep trenches into the scorched earth. The blazing vortex of the Great Tornado showed no mercy; any lesser enemies lingering in their destructive path were instantly incinerated, reduced to drifting white ash under the violent heatwave.

"In the end..."

Looking through the flames at the fiercely determined WarGreymon X, Omnimon's fractured consciousness managed to claw back a fleeting sliver of clarity from the chaotic abyss of his mind.

He looked down at his own long-twisted, corrupted body. The rotting data, the dark stains marring his once-holy armor. After a long, heavy silence, a low, self-deprecating chuckle escaped Omnimon's throat.

"Is that so..." he murmured, the hostility in his stance loosening just a fraction. "In that case, then let it be as you wish, WarGreymon X."

"Omnimon!!!!"

Watching the two immensely powerful Digimon gradually move away from the main battlefield, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake, Dynasmon slowly turned his horned head toward the crimson-armored knight hovering beside him.

"Is this really okay?" Dynasmon asked, his tone carrying a rare hint of solemnity. "Gallant, you must have wanted to 'send him off' with your own hands, right?"

Facing his comrade's question, Gallantmon X remained silent, his grip tightening slightly on his holy lance. Beneath his visor, his thoughts drifted backward, recalling the events that had led them to this exact moment.

Just a short while ago, Gallantmon X had arrived at the heavily fortified area housing the main survivor camp.

During his absence, the Digital World had been pushed to the absolute brink. More than half of the digital landscape had been entirely consumed and destroyed by the endlessly multiplying Eaters. Although Gallantmon X had slaughtered countless of the grotesque anomalies along his journey, relying on his overwhelming X-Evolved strength, the reality was grim. The things he could accomplish as a single, solitary knight were ultimately limited against a plague of this magnitude.

It was only because Mizuki and his group had joined forces with the survivors, using brilliant tactics to stabilize the crumbling defensive lines, that this place still stood. Without them, this final, fragile piece of pure land would have ceased to exist days ago.

"Gallantmon, you're actually still alive!"

A familiar, gruff voice had called out from behind. Gallantmon X had turned to see a battered but unbowed figure approaching through the camp's gates.

It was WarGreymon X.

After clearing out the encroaching enemies in the underground sectors, WarGreymon X and MetalGarurumon X had returned to the surface. Their primary mission had been to rescue a large group of In-Training Digimon that had been forced to evacuate their nursery. They had originally intended to escort those children far away from the frontlines, hoping they could escape the war entirely. But who could have imagined that this besieged camp would become the literal last safe haven in the entire world?

"WarGreymon X..." Gallantmon X had greeted, his cape billowing in the ash-filled wind.

"Your appearance... is that an X-Evolution?!" WarGreymon X had looked the crimson knight up and down, his eyes widening in sheer surprise at the radiant, upgraded armor. However, his gaze quickly shifted past the knight, drawn to a familiar human figure coordinating defenses not far away. "Thank goodness. Mizuki is alright."

"Are you not planning to rest?" Gallantmon X had asked, noting the deep scorch marks and dented Chrome Digizoid on the dragon warrior's frame. WarGreymon X was already shifting his weight, his posture screaming of a desire to strike out once more.

WarGreymon X simply clenched his clawed fists, the metal grinding loudly. "Rest? At this point, how could anyone have the luxury for such leisure!"

Without waiting for a response, he turned and shouted toward his lupine partner, who was currently surrounded by a flock of frightened, bouncing Digimon. "MetalGarurumon X! I'll leave the children in your care!"

"Hey, WarGreymon X—wait!"

Before MetalGarurumon X could even finish his sentence, the fiery warrior had already ignited his thrusters, rushing straight back toward the chaotic battlefield.

Helpless, MetalGarurumon X could only let out a heavy mechanical sigh and shake his armored head.

It was at that moment Gallantmon X had stepped up beside the heavily armed wolf. Looking at MetalGarurumon X—who was clearly burning with anxiety for his reckless partner but bound by his duty to protect the helpless children—the Royal Knight made a swift decision.

"Leave the children to me," Gallantmon X said, his voice a calm, immovable anchor. "In return, go support WarGreymon X."

"Is it okay...?" MetalGarurumon X's optical sensors widened in surprise.

Seeing the absolute resolve radiating from the Royal Knight, MetalGarurumon X didn't waste time arguing. He nodded vigorously, his missile pods shifting as he prepared to launch. "I understand. Then I'll leave the children to you!"

Gallantmon X simply nodded. "..."

With a burst of blue thruster fire, MetalGarurumon X rocketed into the sky, chasing after the fiery trail left by WarGreymon X.

"Gallantmon X!"

Just seconds after the wolf's departure, a sharp, familiar voice piped up from the cluster of rescued children.

Gallantmon X turned his head, discovering two petite Digimon pushing their way to the front of the crowd. Following closely behind them, looking incredibly nervous, was an Ultimate-level Mummymon.

"Apologies, Lord Gallantmon X, these two children have been clamoring to go out and fight—" Mummymon stammered, his breath hitching involuntarily as he looked up at the knight.

Although Mummymon knew perfectly well that the Digimon before him was a benevolent Royal Knight—and one who had personally shown him favor in the past—he still couldn't suppress the instinctual awe and terror that came from standing so close to such overwhelming, divine power.

"It is no matter. I know these two," Gallantmon X replied softly, giving Mummymon a reassuring nod to signal that he would handle the situation.

Understanding the dismissal, Mummymon respectfully bowed at the waist and quickly retreated back to manage the rest of the frightened In-Training group.

Gallantmon X looked down at the two troublemakers. "Dorumon. And Tokomon X."

"Gallantmon—no, now I should call you Gallantmon X!" Dorumon planted her paws on the ground, glaring up at the towering knight with a deeply puzzled, almost accusatory gaze. "You completed your X-Evolution."

"I did."

"No, compared to that... you didn't die?"

"I did die," Gallantmon X corrected calmly.

"But you were resurrected." Dorumon's eyes narrowed, her sharp mind piecing the puzzle together. She stared daggers at the knight. "Everything is according to plan, right?"

Gallantmon X averted his gaze slightly. "...Apologies."

Hearing the confirmation directly from the Royal Knight's own mouth, Dorumon subconsciously gritted her fangs, her tail lashing the dirt. "Does Mizuki know about this?"

Gallantmon X remained silent.

"...What is this? Keeping me in the dark? Do you think I'm unreliable?!" Dorumon demanded, her voice cracking with genuine hurt and frustration.

"No. We simply did not want to make you worry," Gallantmon X answered, his tone softening with genuine regret.

"But we are no longer children who don't know anything!" Dorumon suddenly raised her head, glaring fiercely at the crimson knight.

Beside her, Tokomon X puffed up its small, round body, hovering indignantly in the air to make itself look as intimidating as a tiny, floating creature possibly could. "We also want to fight, and we also want to protect everyone!"

Gallantmon X stared at the two of them for a long moment, the silence stretching between them.

"...With the way you look right now?" he finally pointed out, his voice dry.

"We are Ultimate-level Digimon!!" Dorumon and Tokomon X shouted in perfect unison, their pride thoroughly stung.

"But you are currently just a Rookie and an In-Training."

"That's because our power has been restricted!" Dorumon shot back, feeling utterly indignant but also deeply depressed by her current lack of stature.

She stomped her paw. "Now that Mizuki is over there, I'll go ask him to lift the restrictions on us!"

Just as Dorumon spun around, fully intending to grab Tokomon X and sprint toward the command tent where Mizuki was stationed, the atmosphere abruptly shattered.

Suddenly, an extremely terrifying, suffocating aura crashed down from the sky, heavy enough to drive the weaker Digimon to their knees. The air itself seemed to freeze, choking on the sheer density of the corrupted data pouring into the area.

Immediately after, under the horrified gaze of every single Digimon in the camp, the sky tore open. That dreaded figure—the one that had brought countless deaths and endless destruction to their world in the past—descended slowly into the very center of the battlefield.

"You are—"

"Omnimon!!!!"
