Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 The Beginning of the First Guard of Grayburg

"Sister, look." A boy carefully took out a white bread from his pocket.

The woman was somewhat surprised to see the white bread in front of her!

She quickly asked, "Will, where did you get this? Did you steal it from the castle?"

The woman knew that her younger brother had been working at the castle recently.

Will's parents had died in the drought of the previous two years, and his sister was his only remaining relative.

Will handed the bread to his sister and said, "Sister, I didn't steal it. It was a gift from the lord."

After Will finished speaking, his eyes still couldn't help but glance at the bread.

The woman did not miss Will's actions, and her eyes became slightly moist.

She took the bread from Will, broke it in half, and handed one half back to Will, saying, "You can have half, sister."

The woman broke off the remaining half in half again. Her husband was out working and had not yet returned.

As she ate the delicious wheat bread, tears welled up in the woman's eyes, and she could no longer hold them back.

She thought of her parents, who had farmed all their lives but had never eaten wheat bread.

A moment later

After tidying her appearance and calming herself down, the woman said to Will, "The new lord seems to be a kind person!"

"Um… Lord… very… good," Will said somewhat indistinctly.

"Eat slowly," the woman said, looking at her younger brother with a hint of reproach.

"The lord had everyone sit together to eat, and even personally gave Miss Adelaide bread. Because Miss Adelaide ate a lot, she finished hers. The lord then shared half of his own bread with Miss Adelaide."

"Ah! Lord, you are truly unbelievable!" The woman looked at Will with some surprise.

"Yes, the lord even invited me to sit down and eat with him, but I didn't dare. So the lord rewarded me with bread instead."

The woman was even more surprised this time.

"And also, sister, the lord wants to establish the 'Grey Castle Territory First Guard Team,' and Lord Andrew has already signed me up."

"What is the purpose of the First Guard of Gray Fortress?" the woman asked, somewhat puzzled.

"We're going hunting in the mountains west of the territory now. What will we do after that? The lord hasn't said."

"Hunting? It's still very dangerous. Is Lord Andrew going?" the woman asked with some concern.

"Not only Lord Andrew is going, but the lord is going too."

"Ah!" She was genuinely surprised today.

Ignoring his shocked sister, young Will continued:

"The lord is the captain of the 'Grey Castle First Guard,' and Lord Andrew is the vice-captain. The lord told us that we will train in the castle for a while and wait for Lord Andrew to fully recover before setting off." Will became more and more excited as he spoke, his slightly trembling body revealing his excitement.

"And most importantly, the members of the guard will receive extra spoils of war. After the spring harvest, the lord will redistribute the land and give some land to those who are brave in the hunt or others who have helped the territory. This land will be entirely yours, and you will only need to pay a small tax. Butler Marcus will keep track of the size of your land, and as long as you live, this land will always be yours."

The woman stared in disbelief; this was completely beyond her imagination. She asked somewhat mechanically, "Can just anyone join the guard?"

"That's definitely not the case. First, register with Butler Marcus, and then Lord Andrew will select the suitable candidates."

The woman was suddenly overjoyed, because Will had said that Lord Andrew had already registered him.

"Sister, don't talk nonsense in the village! The lord hasn't had Steward Marcus read these messages aloud yet."

"Okay, Will, I understand."
