By evening, Liam had discovered that being left entirely alone with nothing urgent to do was unexpectedly difficult.
Gabriel had returned to his duties shortly after lunch, taking the stack of engineering notes with him and promising to send several old infrastructure reports later. Cecil had disappeared into whatever obligations came with being Crown Prince, Frederik with him, and the twins had been collected by their tutors after spending nearly an hour trying to convince Liam that one of the palace fountains concealed a secret tunnel.
Liam had checked.
It did not.
At least, not according to the architectural plans.
Now he occupied one end of the sofa in the private sitting room attached to their suite, a book open across his lap while evening slowly settled beyond the tall windows.
He had been on the same page for fifteen minutes.
