The crew cart caught at the foot of the ramp. Miller stopped pushing before its front wheel could tip into the drainage channel, and Sully slid a steel plate across the gap. Caleb held the loose hose clear with his left hand while they brought the hydraulic spreader onto the platform.
"Thirty credits a cycle, and the government boy still comes back to mind our hoses," Sully said. He kicked the plate flat and checked the cart brake.
"Somebody has to keep you from driving into the drain."
Miller wiped his goggles with a clean corner of his sleeve. "You can make yourself useful by staying off the load. Vance told us about your shoulder."
The spreader lay strapped to the cart, its jaws folded against the ram. Caleb released the hose after Miller clipped it to the side. The repaired weave supported his right elbow while he stepped back from the brake.
