I ran it against what I was watching and the arithmetic came back the way it always comes back when it doesn't matter anymore.

In the dream all three of them were dead inside half a minute.

I pushed everything into my eyes and took the street apart detail by detail, hunting for anything that had moved since the last time I'd seen it.

The stutter of the lamps. The angle of Becky's shoulders. The gap between May's hand and Sherry's wrist. The empty stretch of asphalt on the right-hand.

What can I do?

"Is everything okay?" Azure, from behind me.

I didn't answer. I had both hands on the bars and my face almost against the glass and nothing else in the world existed. The iron printed its lattice into my palms. My breath fogged a small coin of the pane and vanished.
