"If I'm not mistaken, he should be the History Devil."
"The History Devil!!"
"Exactly, the History Devil is actually quite strong," Arata continued.
"Because people are terrified of history repeating itself, afraid that past crises will descend upon them once again. Take the Gluttony Devil in Osaka, for example. After some time passed, it became a thing of the past, but I doubt anyone will easily forget it. Deep down, they fear the Gluttony Devil making a comeback. Or take the Terracotta Army incident. It's not just the people of City P; I'm sure even you and Hak Foo don't want something like that happening again."
"Do you have a way to get rid of him, Arata?" Jackie asked.
"Of course. As long as we destroy the History Devil's two hearts, we can send him straight back to hell."
"Two hearts, and he can still be killed! Then it definitely isn't that devil from before." Hak Foo breathed a sigh of relief.
"A devil with two hearts? Arata, do you know much about the History Devil?" Jackie asked, wanting to find a solution immediately.
"He has a mud heart and a stone heart. The mud heart gives him the ability to manufacture things, allowing him to churn out Terracotta Warriors. The stone heart is used to reinforce them, turning the Terracotta Warriors into indestructible, immortal stone golems."
Jackie and Hak Foo listened with intense interest.
"So based on what you're saying, he can infinitely manufacture Terracotta Warriors?"
"He can, but he needs blood. The more blood he absorbs, the more Terracotta Warriors he can create. The blood of a single adult can produce roughly a thousand Terracotta Warriors."
"That many!!" Hearing about the History Devil's unit-spamming capabilities, the two men gasped in shock.
"And Mount P provides him with the perfect environment. The moment he runs low on blood, he'll unleash a massive army to hunt. Anyone hunted down by the Terracotta Warriors will be drained of their blood completely. He won't stop the slaughter until both of his hearts have enough blood."
"No wonder the Terracotta Warriors that showed up earlier suddenly vanished."
"Jackie, the most pressing matter right now is evacuating the people of City P. The History Devil is definitely going to show himself again soon, and this time, he'll likely unleash every single soldier in that tomb."
"Is it really that serious?!"
"I did just blow one of his hearts to pieces, after all. The only way he can recover is by constantly sucking blood."
"Then there's no time to lose. I'm going to report this to the higher-ups."
"Arata, do we need to leave someone here to stand guard?" Hak Foo asked.
"No need. When the time comes, a massive horde of Terracotta soldiers will instantly flood out of this place. You guys just need to get as far away as possible."
"When will the History Devil make his move?"
"I deliberately left some rats behind in the tomb. The moment anything stirs, I'll know immediately."
"Hey, we're heading back now," Hak Foo shouted to the young men smoking a short distance away.
"Hak Foo, do we not need to leave anyone behind to keep watch?" The young Public Safety Devil Hunters put out their cigarettes and walked over.
"No need. Bring him and let's head back." Hak Foo pointed at the tomb raider.
With that, the two vehicles drove down Mount P. On the way down, they spotted a family of three walking up the mountain path. The little boy walking in front was holding a kite.
"Hak Foo, pull over next to them." Jackie gently patted Hak Foo's thick, muscular arm. The Jeep swerved slightly and slowly trailed alongside the family of three.
At first, the family thought it was strange and even felt a little scared, terrified they had run into some organ-harvesting syndicate. When the car window rolled down, Jackie poked his head out and waved enthusiastically. "Hello there."
"Jackie Chan!!!" The family of three froze in their tracks, staring in utter shock at their favorite movie star.
"Do you want to make your kite a little more special?"
"S-Special?" The little boy didn't understand.
His father, however, hurriedly handed the kite to Jackie. "Thank you so much, Jackie! Our whole family are huge fans of yours."
Jackie smiled warmly, taking a marker and quickly signing his name across the kite.
"Are you guys heading up the mountain to fly the kite?" Jackie asked as he handed it back to the little boy.
The boy took the kite, a massive, radiant smile beaming across his face.
"That's right. We rarely get a day off, so we brought the kid out to fly his kite."
"It's probably best to do it another day. We just discovered a slumbering devil up on the mountain."
"A devil!!" The family's faces turned pale at the mere mention of the word, and the father immediately pulled his wife close by the shoulder.
"The devil is going to wake up in the next few days, so you need to hurry down the mountain. Also, tell your friends and family to stay as far away from City P as possible during this time. Don't come back until the news announces that the incident is resolved."
"Understood." The man picked up his child, his face showing nothing but absolute trust.
"Let's go, Hak Foo." With that, the car continued its drive down the mountain.
"Jackie, we could have just told them there was a devil on the mountain. Why did you go out of your way to sign an autograph for him?" Hak Foo asked, completely puzzled.
"Jackie was afraid that just suddenly telling them would make them suspicious and untrusting. But by closing the distance first and then warning them, they'll absolutely believe him. Plus, they'll actively take the initiative to convince their friends and relatives to evacuate when they get back," Arata explained from the backseat.
By this time, it was already getting late. The Jeep arrived at Dragon Team 1's headquarters. The moment he stepped out of the car, Jackie immediately sprinted inside. Hak Foo and Arata followed behind at a leisurely pace.
"If they knew Terracotta Warriors were popping up from time to time, why haven't the people of City P evacuated yet?" Arata asked.
"Because the information is inconsistent, and people always hold onto a sliver of false hope. They don't want to leave. They figure they'll be perfectly safe as long as they stay locked inside their houses."
"Or maybe because we wiped out a wave of Terracotta Warriors earlier, they assumed the Devil Hunters had already defeated the devil. Combine that with the fact that there hasn't been a massive riot in weeks—just a few isolated Terracotta Warriors specifically targeting Devil Hunters—and most people have no idea the History Devil is still alive."
"Didn't you guys report this to the higher-ups back then?"
"We did. But the higher-ups said they dispatched Quanxi to us, so dealing with a few Terracotta Warriors shouldn't be a problem. Since the Terracotta Warriors are honestly pretty weak, the brass didn't take it seriously."
"I'm guessing there's more to it than just that, right?" Arata chuckled.
Hak Foo glanced around to make sure no one was listening, then leaned in and whispered quietly into Arata's ear. "If everyone in City P evacuated, the economic losses would be incalculable. That doesn't just affect the interests of our direct superiors, but also the city officials. Even if our boss agreed to it, the guys above him definitely wouldn't. So they just pressure each other, and all that weight eventually crushes us grunts at the bottom."
"It's fine. Now that they realize the actual danger, I'm sure Jackie's massive reputation will be enough to convince them." Arata and Hak Foo sat in Dragon Team 1's waiting room, biding their time.
Every now and then, they saw citizens coming in to file police reports.
Just then, a man rushed inside, screaming at the top of his lungs, "My wife is missing! Somebody help me!"
Hearing the cry for help, a short-haired woman in a Public Safety uniform stepped out to receive him.
"You again?"
"Hurry up and help me find my wife! I called her, and she said she got kidnapped by the Terracotta Warriors and told me to stop looking for her!"
"Your wife isn't missing," the short-haired girl stated flatly.
"Not missing? Then where did she go?!"
"This matter is outside the jurisdiction of Public Safety Devil Hunters."
"She was kidnapped by a devil! How is that not your jurisdiction?!"
"I already told you, your wife wasn't kidnapped by a devil. According to the investigation by the Data Devil, your wife has been frequently booking hotel rooms with another man lately. She just used the devil as an excuse to dump you."
"What!!" The man looked completely stunned. "I don't believe it."
"If you don't believe me, go to Room 1102 at the Ruhua Hotel right now. You're guaranteed to find a surprise."
