I stiffened for a moment, then turned and flashed a warm smile. My hands found Veyra's hand, and I pulled him closer.
"he's my boyfriend!" I said, and she just blinked her lashes, even more confused.
"Boyfriend?" she asked in confusion.
"We are dating," I added, trying to make it easier for her to understand, but she just scratched her head, confused and absent-minded.
I bit down on my lip. I was so nervous that I had used our modern words. Of course, no one there would understand what I meant.
"I meant he's my husband," I said, my ears turning red.
"Oh," escaped from her lips, and she turned to Veyra.
"Join us for dinner," she said.
Veyra didn't reply, and I looked up at him. His eyes were just wet with tears, filled with guilt and pain.
"Hey," I said, yanking his sleeve.
He snapped his gaze away.
"Okay," she said and walked off, but turned back and to stare at us again. She must have been contemplating why he was so similar to her brother.
