"What?!" Vessara's head snapped up. "Why?!"
Vael turned to face her. "We can't consummate tonight."
She walked toward him, closing the distance between them. "Why would we sleep separately on our wedding night?"
She had imagined this night over and over again in her head. Not just the night, but every possible thing he would do to her. The way his hands would feel on her skin—the sounds he might make. Everything.
Doesn't he want her too?
No. Maybe it's the room. Perhaps this was his old Luna's room? Was this about ten years ago? Maybe he was uncomfortable about it all. She questioned frantically. Internally.
Vessara's wolf stirred in her chest, a low pulse of distress. "You're pregnant. It makes things different." Vee reminded her gently.
"You're pregnant, Vessara." Vael's voice came out rough, strained. He cleared his throat, speaking the same words her wolf had given her. "It's not safe for me to mark you in such condition."
