Ch.20
Turning, Kim asked. "Ron, how long have you been there?"
Devoid of any emotion, Ron answered. "Long enough to know that even after you knew I found out about the chip you would still try to take advantage of it."
The already pale Kim dropped her backpack to the floor. "Ron, I just needed to find you so we could talk."
"Kim, I have a cellphone and you know the number." Ron simply stated.
"Ron but that's..." Kim started to say but was cut off.
"Of course, I could refuse to talk and that would go against what you want." Ron said adding. "And that's my right, as an equal."
"We are equals." Kim said.
"Are we?" Ron asked. "Do you have any idea how it feels to have your body and privacy violated. Then find out that your bestfriend takes advantage of that violation when it suits her needs. Add to that finding something you're good at but your bestfriend shuts it down like it's a threat or a problem. Well, do you?"
"No, Ron but I can explain." Kim pleaded.
"Explain what? That preventing my success was for my benefit. That keeping track of what I do or whom I do it with would keep me safe." Ron demanded.
"Well, when you were kidnapped by Malcom that's exactly how I was able to save you." Kim suggested.
"I was on a date and it happened the one time. You can't excuse your repeated uses with one time being right." Ron stated.
"Ron, you're right but calm down so we can talk it through." Kim says starting to cry.
"I am calm. Just stating the facts." Ron says and waits for Kim's next words.
"Ron, I did what I did for you. Think about it, how many times have you let success go to your head?" Kim asked.
"Don't you think that like those other times having my back and talking to me about it would have worked better?" Ron asked back.
Kim was starting to run out of patience. Every argument was shut down and by Ron of all people. Thus what she said next was without thought. "It's because you're mine."
"I'm your what? Bestfriend? You proven to not really think that anymore." Ron said not understanding.
"You want the truth?" Kim asked then proceeded to yell. "It's because you're mine! You are my Ron!! No one else's."
Ron looked like he just recieved a blow. In another setting, in another mood, before he knew, before Yori and Shego, those words would have made his day. Now though, knowing that Kim has no romantic interest in him, they twist everything this friendship meant to him.
Taking a deep breath Ron spoke. "Kim our friendship is done. I want you to maintain some distance from me and return the key I gave you to my house."
"Ron, you can't be serious." Kim said.
"Note, serious face." Ron said and added. "I'll also be talking to Wade, no more missions."
When Ron extended his hand, Kim thought about what was going on and started to plead with the p.d.p. "Please Ron, think this through."
"I have been thinking Kim. Lastly, I'll be talking to your parents and explaining the situation to them, you need some help." Ron says honestly. "Now, the key."
Kim was reluctant but being at school she conceded and handed the key over in tears.
"Goodbye, Kim." Was the last thing Ron said before walking away.

Yori did not originally want to let Ron confront Kim alone fearing that the redhead would manipulate him, but after Ron looked her in the eyes and said: 'I need to do this alone.', she admitted he was right.
When a shaking Ron stepped out of the school doors, Yori's heart hurt for him. With tears in her eyes she opened her arms and he walked into the hug. One thing to note, was that he wasn't crying and the shaking stopped soon after. A few minutes of hugging and Ron took a deep breath and parted.
"Thanks, Yori." Ron said beginning to lead the way.
In step right next to him, Yori replied while grabbing his hand and easing it open. "You're welcome."
Yori became aware of where they were going once Ron led them past his house.

Ron shaked a little while standing on the porch and then rang the doorbell. It took around three minutes for the door to be opened by Ann, to which Yori suspected that the older woman had to convince herself to open.
"Hello, Ron, Yori. How may I help you?" Ann asked politely.
"Hey, Ann." Ron greeted then said. "We need to talk." Seeing Ann tense Ron added. "It's about Kim."
"Right, come in." Ann invited.
Yori followed them into the kitchen and listened as Ron explained everything from beginning to end, even going as far as calling Wade to confirm. At which point, Wade asked them to go to the livingroom and played Ron and Kim's conversation on the flatscreen. After seeing the video, Ann looked at Ron like she wanted to hug him, maybe more but refrained.
"I understand Ron, I'll talk to her father and see to getting her the help she needs." Ann assured him then asked. "How are you holding up?"
"As can be expected Ann, my world has just been turned upside down." Ron said and turned around to leave.
"Ron....take care." Ann said.
Yori and Ron let themselves out in time to see Kim walking up the driveway.
"Ron! I knew you would understand." Kim said but Ron simply walked by like she wasn't even there.
Yori followed though she was on guard in case Kim retaliated for the slaps in the morning though it seemed unnecessary as Kim just stood there shocked.
Once home, Ron went to the backyard and sat in meditation, so Yori joined him, meditating how life can so easily change.

Ann wanted to bring Ron into her arms when she saw the pain he was in, but with how complicated everything was she couldn't bring herself to make it worse. Now adding to things was her daughter somehow getting the impression Ron belonged to her and seeing him as some form of property, ruining a friendship that had endured over a decade.
When Kim entered through the door shortly after Ron left, Ann wanted to set her daughter straight, but upon seeing her lost expression couldn't bring herself to yell so she talked to her.
"Oh Kimmie, what on earth made you think Ron belonged to you?" Ann asked.
"Mom, I know what's best for him. So what if I make him mine because of it." Kim said.
"Kim, he is a person! You should see him as an equal not property, even if you had his best interest in mind." Ann corrected.
"But mom without me he's hopeless!" Kim argued.
"Sweetie he can more than stand on his own two feet." Ann assured.
"You won't understand." Kim decided.
"Kim, I'll be talking to your father about this and your going to be seeing a therapist." Ann declared.
"Fine!" Kim said walking away.

Ron felt complicated with how things went down with Kim. On one hand, his heart felt like it had been torn to pieces, on the other, he felt like he shed a shackle that held him back. It was like the doubt that was present in everyone of his actions was gone.
As he sat in meditation, he went deeper than ever before and was able to enter his mindscape with little difficulty. Seeing teacher Xu, he asked. "How come after breaking free from a toxic relationship I was able to reach this level in meditation?"
"You know the answer to that even if you have yet to admit it to yourself." Teacher Xu responded thinking. 'That relationship offset the balance within yourself.'
"So it was my fault that our friendship ended up this way." Ron said.
"On that I would disagree." Teacher Xu denied.
"But I was the one constantly changing to suit her needs. Always supportive, always following her preferences and never stepping out of line. I gave the impression that I was some form of servant." Ron lamented.
"You were simply a great friend that did his best to maintain a friendship. Now you should have learned that giving up who you are is not the way. A friendship that requires you to suppress your abilities or pretend to be something else would not end well. The same can be said for a friendship that it's not properly balanced. Think of ying and yang." Teacher Xu advised.
"I always thought we'd be there for each other." Ron admitted. "Ending our friendship, though necessary, was the hardest thing I've ever done."
"Yet in doing so you regained balance within yourself. Now, your Ki responds more smoothly and your concentration is no longer clouded by doubt." Teacher Xu explained.
"Yes, I can feel it." Ron said adding. "Like everything is easier. Let me try something." Saying so, Ron sat and tried to finally complete the cycle of the dragon Ki control.
Seeing what he was doing, Xu Ming Yue wondered if he was going to connect to the heavenly plane like herself or connect to the earthly plane. The difference were huge though with training even someone who connected to the earthly plane can raise their sensitivity to that of the heavenly plane people.
Ron had ignited the Ki in his dantian and after guiding a couple strands through the flame began the cycle. As he guided the Ki through key points Ron became more and more aware of the dragon forming. The technique's nature revealed itself to be overbearing as it followed the cycle to completion. As he neared the end, Ron could tell that the Ki's purity would be incredible though only a bit would complete the cycle. After reaching the key point just before the dantian Ron felt like he hit a wall. Ron was instinctively aware that this was a test and as such it had a solution. Ron tried going over, under and around but it didn't work so he had to go through it. The problem is the lack of power but Ron had an idea. He was going to cut off the Ki flow before the wall and let pressure build. Once he couldn't hold it back anymore, he would let it smash into the wall and hopefully through it. The process to carry out the plan was slow and Ron became increasingly aware of how difficult it was to control such pure Ki. Without completing the cycle it was like trying to hold back a waterfall with a hand. Still, he kept at it till he felt he had enough force to push through. When Ron let all the force impact the wall he briefly wondered if he made a mistake as the wall held firm and he felt like the passage where the energy was going through would tear. He tensed but instead of backing off he tried to control the tip of the Ki into a spear to focus where it would go through. A couple of moments of tense determination and Ron was rewarded when the wall gave in completing the cycle.
Upon completion of the cycle, Ron felt like when he used Ki at Shego's weeks ago. Everything looked colorful and more detailed. His senses even picked up Yori and the ninja around him yet still expanded further though he wasn't trying to check his surroundings. Ron could feel the Ki in nature all around him for a few moments before his focus returned to the dantian. There weren't many changes just a couple of drops of Ki floating just above the flames of Ki and from what he could tell they were still being refined.
Opening his eyes the first thing Ron saw surprised him. Xu Ming Yue stood before him with a smile and Ron knew he stared when he noticed she was talking.
"Congratulations on becoming a heaven grade practitioner." Xu Ming Yue says.
"What's a heaven grade practitioner?" Ron asked.
"Completing the cycle for Ki control and refinement branches between earthly plane and heavenly plane. A heavenly plane or heaven grade practitioner's senses are enhanced naturally upon completion while an earth grade would need to train his senses just to reach the base for a heaven grade practitioner. With training a heaven grade practitioner's senses would grow to such lengths that their surrounding Ki would submit to them." Teacher Xu explained.
"Wow." Was all Ron could say.
"Indeed." Teacher Xu agreed.
Then Teacher Xu proceeded to explain what Ron should do to stabilize the Ki refinement and eventually make it a subconscious process. When she expected him to rest Ron seemed reluctant to stop so she asked. "Are you trying to avoid facing your problems?"
"Not exactly avoid them, but take a break from them?" Ron questioned.
"The best way to do that is relying on those by your side." Teacher Xu reminded.
Thinking of Yori's calming presence, even now by his side, Ron agreed and stopped meditating.

When Ron opened his eyes he looked at Yori like it was the first time he saw her. Yori had a red aura around her and he thought to be in the presence of a goddess.
"Fairy." Teacher Xu exclaimed.
"What do you mean?" Ron asked.
"When a few outstanding beauties achieve a certain level of renown and power they used to be recognized as fairies." Teacher Xu explained.
"It suits her." Ron agreed and sat there enjoying just looking at Yori.
A few minutes later, Yori opened her eyes and blushed when she saw the way Ron looked at her.
"Ron-san, are you feeling better?" Yori asked.
"Yeah and again, I have to apologize to you." Ron said explaining. "I know this situation has been difficult on you and I haven't been the most reasonable person lately so I'm sorry for everything. Will you forgive me?"
Ron didn't expect Yori to cry but she shed tears that looked like gems to him.
"Un." Yori said nodding.
Ron chose to close the distance between them and kiss her. Even as he did, he could feel Yori's constant care and affection, once again being grateful for his luck.
"We should go on a date one of these days." Ron comments.
Yori's smile became a little wider and Ron could feel her joy radiating towards him. With that thought in mind Ron stands and brings Yori inside.

Although Wade was asked to give Ron some space, he still worked on the project from his room so the game development and other aspects continued on track. Ron stepped into the lab greeting Felix and Zita, getting right into work. Yori was helping with the translator for translations between English and Japanese. Another thing to note was that other translations were given to professionals to complete, then Wade was to compile them into the program. The result, a multilingual translation software.
As everyone worked on their respective tasks Ron stood and went to the computer and began searching for something. A few minutes later he called Yori over and the two talked quietly to not disturb the rest.
"Do you think they are still functional, Ron-san?" Yori asked.
"It's not a hundred percent certain but it's worth a check. They would be perfect for the Neuro Linker, specifically my own." Ron explained his hope.
"Okay, I'll arrange transporation." Yori said and took the lift up.
Ron went over to Felix and Zita, explaining that he and Yori were going out for a few hours.
"If you need anything don't hesitate to ask." Ron said.
"Got it man, you have fun." Felix says.
"Zita go easy on him." Ron says and heads to the lift leaving a blushing Zita behind.
The last thing Ron hears as he is going up is Zita talking to Felix. "Chico, I'm going to make you pay for that."

An Island off of the Gulf of Mexico
"This place hasn't changed much." Ron comments.
"Are you sure, Ron-san?" Asked Yori.
"Yeah, just past that forest should be the hive mind base the Bebe's built." Ron confidently lead the way and like he said they found the base for the Bebe hive mind.
Ron was surprised by the little it changed though it's been months since they shut it down. Walking into the base, Ron looked around and everything was where they left it, now he just needed to find the Bebe hive mind.
Ron checked the devices and got into their network with a computer but he couldn't find the Bebe hive mind. Yori checked for hidden entrances or panic rooms but found nothing as well. They looked around for over an hour but found nothing. Ron even went as far as to calling out to the Bebe's. When that didn't work Ron sat down to think and remembered that his senses could cover a great distance and in greater detail after becoming a heaven grade practitioner so he decided to try it.
Starting in meditation, Ron focused on his surroundings and began expanding his senses. Teacher Xu had explained that after stabilizing his Ki, he could will his senses outward and even create a field of complete awareness with little difficulty, but he wasn't there yet thus focus was necessary through meditation. In a few minutes, Ron senses covered the diameter of the facility and expanded outwards. As he was caught up in expanding his senses he failed to pick up on the sound at first.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
When Ron noticed the noise he zeroed in instantly. It was coming from above the device Bonnie had been strapped to when the Bebe's chose her as their queen.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
It was faint, like it would go out any second now but it repeated the same pattern.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
Again and again.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
It took a moment, but Ron did recognize it as Morse Code.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
"S.O.S!" Ron whispered, standing to check the bee hive that was connected to a sealed capsule where Bonnie was trapped.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
The sound barely increased with proximity but Ron noticed the difference. Climbing onto the capsule Ron took a look around and saw a damaged area at the back.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
Looking inside he spotted a crystal like sphere and saw the cracks on its surface, is where the sound generated from.
"Bzt, bzt, bzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzzzt, bzt, bzt, bzt."
It was controlled burst of electricity to mimic Morse Code between the cracks.
"I got you." Ron assured and reached inside for the orb.
To remove it was simple as it wasn't bolted to anything and he simply lifted it and pulled it out. As soon as he did, Ron saw the orb seem to power down and hoped it's functions were still intact.
"Yori, I found them." Ron announced. "We need to hurry back to the lab, they're damaged."
"Okay, Ron-san." Yori easily agreed.

Ron and Yori made it back to Middleton sometime past 4am and headed into the lab. Surprisingly no one was up which made Ron glad they were getting proper rest. What he didn't know was that Felix and Zita were in the apartments working on the game. Mrs. Renton and Wade were likewise doing an all nighter at their places.
As best as Ron could tell, the Bebe hive mind either went into some form of hibernation or ceased functioning all together. With that in mind, Ron set up a power supply for the Bebe hive mind and tried to communicate with them but to no avail. He spent an hour trying various ideas before leaving with Yori.
Upstairs, Rom went about making breakfast after they got ready for their morning exercise. The run was completed and Ron still had to wash paint off of himself. When it was time for school they stepped outside and found Zita and Felix waiting for them.
"Morning!" Zita greets from sitting atop Felix's lap.
"Hey." Says Felix.
"Good morning, Zita-san, Felix-san." Yori greets.
"Hey, guys, what brought you here so early?" Ron asks.
"We never left." Felix explains adding. "Had the place all to ourselves." Zita elbows him in the ribs. "Not that we did anything." A blushing Zita puts her hand over his mouth stopping him from making things worse.
"Either way I'm glad you're here, about today's tutoring..." Ron began explaining some of the plans he came up with.
Zita got off of Felix and went over to Yori, asking something and a smiling Yori gave it to her.

Shego had just arrived at Drakken's latest lair and still couldn't believe it. Drakken had gotten a lair so far in the open that people might not even believe it if they found it. Still, she focused on what she wanted to get done and looked for Drakken.
Finding him Shego announced. "Dr.D, I'm retiring."
"Wha-what do you mean Shego? We are so close!" Drakken states.
"I'm sorry, Dr.D, but the decision has been made." Shego was adamant.
"Very well, I'll notify the team and we'll send you off right." Drakken says seeming to accept which satisfied Shego.
"Okay." Shego agrees.

When Drakken heard that Shego wanted to retire he started cursing inside his head. The timing was horrible as he still needed her to carry out his latest scheme. Not to mention she took care of almost everything. So he would have to enact his back up plan. A plan he came up with after previous failures to take over the world and one he never hoped he'd have to try since failing meant great personal harm.
Drakken went about seemingly preparing to send Shego off. He had the henchmen set up for a party and made some refreshments himself. He even took a step further and bought confetti cannons. A couple hours later there was a cake, cookies, ice cream and alchohol to go with the decorations.
Shego saw the care and seemed to relax a bit for which the nervous Drakken took as a small victory. The party started without a hitch, everyone ate and drank plenty before Drakken decided to give a speech.
"....so I guess what I'm trying to say is that Shego was a valued team member and as such I choose to remember her." Drakken concluded and looked around at his henchmen. "That's the cue for the confetti cannons."
The seemingly drunk and in some cases drunk henchmen, for relying on liquid courage, picked up their confetti cannons and aimed at Shego from all around her, firing. What came out were a bunch of darts that by the time Shego realized, she couldn't evade them all, getting hit by at least half a dozen from the first volley. The second shot struck true and all the seemingly drunk henchmen hit her. The still clad in green plasma Shego started teetering from side to side glaring all around her.
Drakken still stood on the stage, feeling as if he was trapped with a beast. When Shego's knees hit the floor and her powers started to fade he straightened and spoke again. "And a team member you will always be."

Ron went through the school day as well as could be expected, till Tara explained how they were having their tutoring at Bonnie's and asked Ron to head over after school the next day.
That afternoon though, after tutoring with Felix Ron focused on the Bebe hive mind and tried to communicate with it. At first it was just like before and showed no effect but half an hour in the Morse code started again so he thought he did something right.
Now, Ron had to admit that his Morse code was only viable for emergencies so he pulled up an online guide to understand everything that was being said. After hearing the instructions which read: Q&A, for YES increase power, for NO decrease power.
"Okay." Ron said and increased power to the orb.
"You are aware of who I am?" Bebe hive mind asked surprising Ron.
'I?' Ron thought as he increased power.
"Can I assume you intend on performing repairs?" Bebe hive mind asked.
'Hmmm, again with the I.' Ron increased power again.
"Do you know how to repair the Bebe have mind without disrupting Bebe's functions?" Bebe asked.
Ron decreases power.
"I will provide the schematics for a new hive mind, that would suffice." Bebe hive mind instructed.
'Something has definitely changed for the Bebe hive mind to refer to itself as I.' Ron felt certain as he increased the power.
They proceeded the Q&A till Ron wrote down a list of neccessary things and the steps to make the new hive mind and ordered the parts. Ron started looking at the schematics he'd drawn and got an idea for an upgrade to the Bebe hive mind that would make it more compact but leave it with the same functions. Best of all he could tweak his Neuro Linker to accommodate the hive mind, though there were some risks involved.
After drawing the plans for a new hive mind, this one the size of a marble and the accompanying designs for his Neuro Linker, Ron went upstairs with Yori for their workout and sparring. After, Ron then checked the voicemail after seeing the light flashing. It was from his parents announcing they were in the states but at the main office where his mother worked. She got a big project that could help the company increase it's profits by a third and was a career changer. Ron sighed not really surprised that something came up since they were a week late after they rerouted their vacation. Seeing as he was on the phone Ron made a phone call that he'd thought about long and hard.
After three rings the other side picked up. "Chef Andre speaking, how may I help you?"
"Chef Andre, it's Ron Stoppable, are you available to talk for a moment?" Ron asks.
"Oh, Ron! I'm glad you called. And yes, I can talk. Can I assume you have good news for me?" Chef Andre asked recognizing Ron.
"Chef, I've thought long and hard whether I can manage a job and school at the same time. After I did the math, I believe I can manage from six to close, three days a week if that's fine with you." Ron explained.
"That's wonderful, but what three days?" Chef Andre asked.
"Though I would like the weekends to myself, I would suggest Thursday through Saturday, they would affect school the least." Ron honestly said.
"Okay, I'll see you Thursday, you'll be signing some paperwork for work and then I'll have you start in an easy position till you adjust to the schedule, then you will start shadowing me." Chef Andre explained.
"Thank you, Chef Andre, I'll see you Thursday." Ron says his goodbeys.
When Ron told Yori that he was taking the job, she had congratulated him and suggested they change their evening workout to an earlier time those days, to accommodate his plans.

Bonnie and Tara were both excited for the plan they made. It was simple and crude, but both agreed that they needed to be on the same level as Yori, though it wouldn't be easy. Ron is loyal and though he openly accepted them in the shared dream, they suspected that he'd resist if he has been with Yori. "Sorry, Monique, but I'm taking Yori, she had asked me about it when it was announced and I promised to take her." Ron explained confirming what Monique guessed. "Though now I'm not so sure if to go with Shego still missing."
"Ron, you have to go." Monique said. "Prom is a once in a lifetime thing for a young woman and you don't want Yori regretting she missed hers."
"I see." Ron said feeling even worse since he knew that Monique, Tara and Bonnie were hoping he'd take them.
"Guys why don't you head home and I'll call when anything comes up." Wade suggested knowing it was going to take a while.
