Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: The Lease at Dream Trucks and the Early Dawn

The dawn broke crisp and clear at 5:00 AM as Rahul turned the ignition key of his trusty mini-truck, pointing its hood southward down the highway toward the sprawling industrial metropolis. His five-day leave from the delivery company had officially commenced, and the first major corporate lease operation of his independent career was finally underway.

The open highway stretched ahead under a pale morning sky, the early traffic light enough to maintain a steady, unhindered cruising speed. As the hours ticked by and the concrete landscape shifted from quiet rural fields to bustling industrial corridors, Rahul kept his mind sharply focused on the logistics ahead. By midday, his stomach began to rumble, prompting him to signal and pull the mini-truck off the tarmac into a shaded roadside dhaba for a quick, hearty lunch.

While waiting for his order, Rahul pulled out his smartphone to save precious time. He tapped out the direct helpline number for the Dream Trucks corporate leasing division and placed the call.

After a brief ring, the familiar, crisp voice of the leasing representative answered. "Dream Trucks corporate leasing, this is Tarun speaking."

"Hello, Tarun, it's Rahul," he stated calmly. "I am calling to formally reserve an appointment to lease a twenty-foot commercial box truck today. I want to ensure the paper processing is expedited when I arrive."

"Ah, Rahul! Good to hear from you again," Tarun responded warmly. "We have units prepped and ready on the lot. To speed things up, you can take a photo of your government ID and heavy commercial driving license and email them right now to our official corporate portal. I can start processing your background checks and paperwork immediately while you're still on the road."

"Done," Rahul replied instantly. "I'll transmit the documents within the next two minutes."

"Splendid," Tarun said, before adding a logistical detail. "By the way, what are your plans for your current vehicle—that mini-truck you're driving down?"

"I need a secure place to park it for the next three days while I run my twenty-foot delivery circuit," Rahul explained. "Do your compound grounds offer short-term parking facilities for clients?"

Tarun chuckled on the other end of the line. "We do have secure parking bays, but our standard visitor rate is a flat one thousand rupees for a three-day block. However, we actually have an alternative arrangement that might interest you, Rahul. If you're willing to temporarily lend your mini-truck to our agency pool during these three days, we waive the parking fee completely. Furthermore, if one of our local clients or emergency inner-city contractors happens to rent your mini-truck while it's parked here, we credit you a flat one thousand rupees for each day it is booked."

Rahul's analytical mind processed the offer in a fraction of a second. Zero parking fees combined with an upside revenue stream if the vehicle got rented out? It was a win-win proposition with zero downside risk.

"Acceptable," Rahul agreed smoothly. "You have a deal. I'll hand over the keys to the mini-truck when I arrive at the compound."

"Perfect. Drive safe, Rahul. See you this evening," Tarun said as they disconnected.

Rahul finished his meal, paid the bill, climbed back into the cab, and resumed his journey.

Pushing through the afternoon traffic and navigating the complex maze of the capital city's peripheral ring roads, he finally pulled his mini-truck through the security gates of the Dream Trucks corporate compound.

The dashboard clock read 6:00 PM—precisely thirteen hours after he had turned his key that morning.

Tarun was waiting for him near the leasing pavilion. The paperwork had already been pre-cleared based on the digital documents Rahul had emailed from the road. Within twenty minutes, Rahul signed the master lease agreement, paid the mandatory fifty-thousand-rupee security deposit in cleared funds from his capital reserve, and formally handed over the keys to his mini-truck under the temporary fleet-lending arrangement.

Tarun walked him over to the pristine twenty-foot commercial box truck assigned to his contract, running through the mandatory multi-point inspection checklist together. Everything was mechanically flawless.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting deep shadows across the massive vehicle yard, Tarun looked at Rahul with an empathetic grin. "It's nearly nighttime, Rahul, and you've been driving for thirteen hours straight. Don't try to start your loading run tonight. Take a complimentary room in our driver quarters, get a full night of uninterrupted rest, and come pick up the keys to your twenty-foot rig fresh at 6:00 AM tomorrow."

Knowing that fatigue was the greatest enemy of safety and precision on the road, Rahul accepted the sensible advice. "Thank you, Tarun. I'll take you up on that."

However, resting his body did not mean pausing his mind. Once settled into the modest, clean air-conditioned room provided in the driver quarters, Rahul pulled out his master manifest ledger. He had already noted down the exact contact numbers, warehouse locations, and manager extensions of all the four commercial stockists whose cargo he was contracted to transport.

Even though it was evening, Rahul methodically dialed each stockist one by one.

"Hello, this is Rahul speaking regarding tomorrow morning's consolidated cargo pickup," he announced professionally to each merchant in turn. "I am deploying our twenty-foot rig first thing at dawn. I will be at your loading bay right after sunrise. Please ensure your warehouse staff has your allocated cubic meter volume fully packed, palletized, and ready for immediate loading so we can maintain a tight schedule."

Every single stockist confirmed their readiness, reassured by his proactive coordination. With his operational timeline locked down down to the minute, Rahul set his alarm, lay down on the cot, and drifted into a deep, restorative sleep.
