Chapter 159 - The Empty Seat

Hajin stopped inside the antechamber while Vella opened her medical satchel beside the bench, exposing gaps between the remaining vials. Thick drapes muffled the reception hall beyond, leaving their party a little privacy to check supplies before the fanfare started.

Juna kept the mantle clear of the bench while Loccy tucked her hammer beneath its edge.

"We burned through these last night," Vella said, lifting an empty dressing pocket with the one hand her shoulder still allowed.

"And the field stores you sent off this morning belong to the company, so they won't help if somebody needs a clean dressing between the palace and the inn."

Hajin rested his working hand above the bench and scowled at the pocket, "Then we buy our own, damn it, the appraisal paid for clothes and supper, not for bandages sprouting inside your satchel."

"Supper can come first," Loccy offered, peeking into the gaping pocket, "if nobody bleeds on it."
