Chapter 323 - Chapter 323 - Writing with Consciousness

Finishing more than two hundred thousand words in a single day would require writing roughly ten thousand words an hour without eating, drinking, sleeping, or resting.

That meant typing around one hundred and eighty characters every minute.

An ordinary person couldn't accomplish that even if they wore out several keyboards.

Besides, writing a novel wasn't a matter of copying and pasting.

While writing, an author had to simultaneously construct scenes in their mind and then translate those scenes into words.

That process alone consumed an enormous amount of mental energy.

Now, however...

Neither of those problems applied to Kamiyā Yuu.

After a period of practice, he had become quite proficient at using his consciousness to control the writing software on his computer.

His extraordinarily powerful mental strength was more than enough to support a full day of high-intensity thinking.

After meeting with Akiyama Gojō, he returned to his office.

He turned on his computer, closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled.

"The third volume has already been completed and polished within my consciousness space."

"A total of 472,873 words."

"I remember every sentence, every word, and even every punctuation mark."

"If I think of my consciousness as one computer, then writing is nothing more than transferring the information stored in it onto another computer."

Copying a five-hundred-thousand-word text file from one computer to another normally took less than a second.

Unfortunately, Kamiyā Yuu had only just begun to grasp the basics of his ability.

He calmed his mind and sank into that subtle emptiness.

Very quickly, he grasped that mysterious sensation once again and established a connection with the computer's information system.

Countless intricate structures appeared within his consciousness.

Streams of zeros and ones formed an immensely complicated system of interactions.

Changing even a single digit could alter the structure of the entire system.

"No matter how many times I see this, it's still incredible."

"At this rate, maybe one day virtual reality like 'The Matrix' really will become possible."

Kamiyā Yuu tentatively reached toward the strings of zeros and ones.

In an instant, countless structures shifted and expanded.

Their changes were simultaneously reflected within his consciousness, allowing him to perceive even more fundamental and intense transformations.

"Come to think of it, this world doesn't even have movies or anime like that."

"The Wachowskis, directors of 'The Matrix,' were fans of the classic anime 'Ghost in the Shell.' Many elements in the film were tributes to—or inspired by—that anime."

His thoughts wandered for a moment.

Truthfully, he found it difficult to imagine computers being products of this era.

After countless practice sessions inside his consciousness space, he had already discovered the trick to manipulating these information structures.

When Kamiyā Yuu opened his eyes again, they remained fixed on the computer screen, yet his focus seemed to be somewhere else entirely.

The writing software suddenly froze.

Then, despite no keyboard or mouse input whatsoever...

Japanese characters began appearing on the screen.

One sentence after another formed.

Punctuation followed naturally.

The speed at which the text appeared became faster and smoother, so fast that the document scrolled downward continuously.

...

The King of Knights poured all the magical energy within her body into the hands gripping her sword.

She raised the radiant golden holy sword high into the air.

Bathed in its brilliant light, not the slightest trace of a young girl's gentleness remained upon her valiant face.

Anyone who saw her at this moment would harbor no doubt whatsoever that she was truly a king.

Light gathered.

As though illuminating this golden holy sword were its highest purpose, radiance surged forth from the shattered earth, from the rippling waters, and from the murky heavens, converging endlessly upon the blade.

Centered upon the sword, it condensed into a dazzling golden pillar of light.

The magnificent brilliance blossomed like a flower of light, turning the entire riverside warehouse into broad daylight.

No one could utter a single word.

They simply gazed at that fierce yet pure radiance illuminating the night sky.

This was the heroic figure who had once illuminated an age of chaos darker than the night itself.

Ten years without yielding.

Twelve battles without defeat.

Achievements unmatched beneath the heavens.

Glory beyond comparison.

A valor that every knight admired.

These legends transcended time itself and would endure forever.

This brilliantly shining holy sword was the lifelong dream pursued by every knight who had fallen upon the battlefield throughout history—

The crystallization of a prayer known as "Glory."

What had the knights who followed the King of Knights seen within their sovereign?

The existence they admired could never have been an empty illusion.

Nor could it have been the mere game that the King of Conquerors, Iskandar, had claimed it to be.

Humility.

Honor.

Sacrifice.

Courage.

Compassion.

Honesty.

Justice.

Soul.

Taking pride in upholding these ideals...

Beginning with the resolve to carry out her convictions without regret...

The King of Knights loudly proclaimed the true name of the miracle held within her hands.

.

.

.

Its name was—

"Ex——calibur!!!"

.

.

.

Boundless light surged forth.

Endless radiance roared across the heavens.

"Boom—!"

The dragon's bloodline, released from the shackles restraining its magical power, accelerated the torrent into an overwhelming flash.

The night disappeared.

The stars and moon vanished beneath the overwhelming brilliance.

The flood of light burst forth, creating countless spiraling currents as it swallowed both the monstrous creature of the deep sea...

...and the night itself.

...

By evening, after the words[End of Volume] appeared at the conclusion of Volume Three of the 'Fate/Zero' novel, Kamiyā Yuu finally let out a long breath and collapsed into his office chair.

Sweat trickled down his pale face, dripped from his chin, and soaked into his damp white dress shirt.

Writing two hundred thousand words continuously through consciousness had proven far more exhausting than he had imagined.

As time passed, the strain on his mind had increased almost exponentially.

"But it's finally finished."

"This writing speed is something I could never have achieved by typing manually."

He raised his right hand and slowly clenched it.

Feeling as though all his strength had been drained, he smiled bitterly.

"I should rest for a while."

"I can't let Sora see me like this."

Finding a comfortable position, he leaned back in his chair.

Staring at the completed manuscript on the monitor, he couldn't help grinning.

He was even more satisfied with it than anything he had ever typed by hand.

As his ability to communicate directly with information through his consciousness improved, writing novels would become this effortless from now on.

Writing was finally no longer an extra burden piled on top of his normal work.

"I wonder what expression Editor-in-Chief Akiyama will have the day after tomorrow when he sees this."

"Well... I had originally planned to finish it on the final day anyway."

Only that morning, Akiyama Gojō had insisted Kamiyā Yuu couldn't complete the remaining manuscript.

Yet in a single afternoon, Kamiyā Yuu had finished the missing two hundred thousand words.

What kind of surprise would the editor experience after receiving it?

As for how it had been accomplished...

He could puzzle over that himself.

"Upload it... and save."

Kamiyā Yuu reached out, used the mouse to upload the manuscript to cloud storage, saved it, then shut down the computer and closed his eyes to rest.

At present, his consciousness could only perform relatively simple operations such as controlling writing software.

When would he be able to manipulate far more complex code?

If he ever reached that stage, he could directly transfer the anime, films, and games from his previous world.
