The Black Lantern

A little bit of author's spiel under the summary _________________ On a cool, late autumn night, Kayo Daza, a fast food line chef with a lifelong obsession with theater, finds himself the victim of a horrific murder. With no powers or guidance, he is thrown into a new world by forces he could never hope to comprehend. As he attempts to survive in a world that treats him as disposable, rumors surface of a fallen star, The Black Lantern, said to be able to grant a wish to whomever finds it. But the deeper Kayo digs, the clearer it becomes that he wasn't the first person to be dragged to this world, and he won't be the last. Whatever brought him here has plans far greater than his survival. And if Kayo truly wants to return home, he may have to decide how much of himself he's willing to lose first. _________________ We have all thought the question at least once: "What if the world didn't bend over backwards for the protagonist? What if they didn't receive powers for basically free? What if *I* wrote an isekai?" And many yet have tried to answer that question, some better and some worse. This is not a novel idea, pun very much intended, but it is one Remedy wanted to tackle on their own. In this book, you will meet the deranged, likely autistic imagination of a European hobbyist worldbuilder, and an amalgamation of their special interests and guilty pleasures alike, from the Cthulhu Mythos and classical literature, to modern day music and World of Darkness. It will be up to you, Dear Audience, to judge whether or not Remedy succeeded in their self-imposed goal of writing a book that's, at the very least, entertaining if nothing else, and improving as a writer in the long-run. Yes I used 3rd person to refer to myself throughout the summary, sue me I don't care. Also adding a disclaimer to the end, I am a very indecisive person, and may change things about this book after it's been released. Not entire chapters, but like, this synopsis, names of the early chapters, etc. Stuff that might seem harmless, but might cause some confusion.

Unruly Spirit

Year 19,001 since Founding. Russell Auburn, the youngest mage in history to be granted the nobility rank of Baron from a commoner status thanks to his numerous contributions to the kingdom, exited the royal palace after having been awarded the unprecedented title of “Greatest Detective of All Time” by the reigning monarch himself. Journalists swarmed him outside the palace gates and questioned one after another, “Esteemed Baron, there are rumors in the royal capital that only by relying on your wife's background did you reach your current heights! What's your opinion about this?” “At the recently concluded sensational case of ‘Frost Willow Conspiracy’ we received some dubious tipoff that you exposed their treachery only because the price they offered couldn't satisfy your appetite? Please give your comments to expel such negative rumors.” “During The Massacre of Little Clover Township, the tragic incident over a hundred years ago, an unconfirmed source says that you could have saved more people but deliberately didn't do so for personal motives! Is there any truth to this or could you perhaps have had some unknown difficulties at that time?” “Esteemed Baron…” Hearing their nonstop smearing campaign Russell felt his blood pressure soar! If not for the fact that all of these journalists had backers in the royal court then he would have shown them the consequences for questioning an aristocrat so blatantly. He kept a calm expression as he replied, “Everyone! Those are all nothing but rumors spread by jealous people! I hope that journalist friends would uphold their professional values and not endorse the words of rumormongers.” Russell summoned his Pegasus with a wave of his hand while adding arrogantly, “As for me relying on my wife's background? That's a foolish joke! She proposed marriage first not only because of our deep love but also because I was very talented in my profession. She had the foresight to see my potential way back in my humble beginnings. That's all!” He gracefully sat on top of the Pegasus, riding away in style but not before forcefully saying his famous line, “I have reached my current position only by relying on talent, loyalty, and righteousness!” ••• for inquiry: @lateautumndays1 (on instagram)
