Chapter 766 - Golden Dragonborn

The way Jon killed the most powerful dragon after Alduin remained a mystery in the annals of history, since historians always squabbled regarding this great fight.

While it wasn't the longest of Jon's fights, it was the most significant one witnessed by mortal eyes. The reason for that was that this fight was one of the last known in the great saga of Jon Dare... in this timeline, at least.

But the other reason was the groundbreaking transformation that Jon Dare had undergone. Once the red-haired manic of Winterhold, the blood-crazed fighter, the Champion of the Imperial Arena, he was now the Golden Dragonborn.

Dragonologists of the era had concluded that Jon Dare had indeed eaten Kungosvern both physically and figuratively, but even with their arrival at this conclusion, the "how" remained a big mystery.

One group of historians took the reasonable approach. Jon used the Tools of Kagrenac to pierce the nigh-indestructible scales of Kungosvern and, little by little, he delivered his iconic "Thunder Cookie" to the chest of the dragon, killing its two bodies in one go and preventing any way for it to regenerate. By killing him, he took his soul, which was how he ate the dragon.

The other group took the radical stance and claimed that Jon Dare had literally consumed the golden scales, to which they attribute his new golden-scale armour afterward. While the opposing side claimed that it was simply a dragonscale armour, like many such artefacts Jon and Wulfur created for their relatives and friends, these golden scales were believed to be part of Jon's body after careful analysis of historical records. Testimonies that Jon Dare would call that armour on a whim were found in the archives of the White-Gold Tower, as well as some Elder Scrolls.

Still, the truth remained obscure in later eras as to how the Last Dragonborn came to be the most powerful being that ever walked Tamriel.

As for those who witnessed the truth, nothing could be stranger to them. Nurina Aren, an Arch-Wizard and a third-generation member of the Line of Divayth Fyr, was completely baffled by the appearance of her adoptive son and how he looked, covered in golden dragon scales.

If one were to describe it accurately, these scales didn't even cover his skin; they grew like a full suit of organic dragon-scale armour. It was akin to a humanoid-shaped dragon, but its facial features were akin to a horned helmet.

What Nurina did first was try to study these scales, but despite the obvious sensation of powerful Magicka flowing through them, they didn't feel repulsive or harmful, but rather in perfect harmony with their own nature, and didn't seem harmful to the touch, even.

Nurina immediately put a hand on the scales and felt its touch, but despite how much she tried to knock on it, its owner remained unresponsive.

Many scenarios started to play in her mind, and her cool demeanour was now in chaos, as the constant nagging from the dragon-shaped Jullanar and the endless worry that started creeping into her heart.

She was never worried like this before, since she was the one who raised him to be prepared for anything and everything, so this was somewhat new to her, not that she had never been worried before.

"Jon, can you hear me?"

She put her head against his chest, due to the size difference between him and her, yet as she tried to let her Magicka flow into him, she was met with something so vigorous and powerful.

BadUM-BADuM-BADUM

She opened her eyes in fright, not from the fact that his heart was normally beating, but due to how strong that beating was. Jon's heart had been enhanced with various magics and powers; he even makes it beat so vigorously that it can disturb others' flow of magic.

But this heartbeat was irregular, and its magical signature made Nurina feel that it was increasing its pace by a minor scale on each beat.

If that was the case, Jon is now in a situation where he isn't in control, and she must reach in to him.

But there was a huge problem.

Jon is now covered in the golden scales of Kungosvern, which are, by most mundane and arcane means, invulnerable.

"Nurina! Nurina! Nurina! What do we do, huh?! Is he breathin'? Blinkin'? Burpin'?! Tell me! Tell me now, or I swear I'm gonna lose my freaking mind!" Jullanar said as she started circling around Jon like a dragon losing its mind... which was pretty much the case.

"Calm down!"

Nurina shouted at Jullanar with a stern face, but looking between her and Jon, she decided to try something.

"Listen, I think I need your help!"

"Anything for my Jonny... I'd burn the world in pink flames if he wants to!"

"Nice. Only difference is... you've got to burn Jon!"

Nurina's idea was simple. If a dragon is the only thing that can kill a dragon, then Jullanar may be the key to getting through these scales that are keeping Jon from being reached by the outside.

"Burn my Jonny! But that would be crazy... Oh!"

"Because he is covered in dragon scales, only a crazy bitch like you can get to him!"

"Wow! Now that's the kind of loony logic I can get behind. Right, stand back!"

Nurina stood back as Jullanar said, and the latter readied herself to do a fire breath like a dragon. A fundamental thing for doing so is to shout in Dovahzul, which she had tried before but didn't succeed at because of her terrible focus.

"Now, let's see... it was something like... YELL TOAST SHOO!"

"...!"

Nothing seemed to happen, and an awkward moment of silence ensued as Nurina stared coldly at her.

"No, wait, I think it was... YOLO TURTLE SHOES!"

"...!"

"I swear he always said it like that!"

"You never paid attention, did you?"

"Dragon talk? Weeeeell, not really in my vocab. Should I bite him instead?"

"I guess a dragon body is still better than nothing!"

"Here I go! A lil' nibble from my sweet Jonny!"

Jullanar the dragon opened her huge maw and immediately charged at Jon, trying to take a bite, but just as her head twisted and her huge head covered Jon between its jaws, it all came to a sudden halt.

Nurina frowned, as she didn't expect Jullanar to stop that suddenly, but what happened next made her eyes widen with absolute shock.

Jon moved!

Not by will as it seemed, but by pure reflex.

He held Jullanar the dragon by her jaws and gripped it well from both sides, and...

"WOAH!"

THUUUUDDD!

It was one of those usual Dragonborn wonders—how he always finds creative ways to kill dragons. But this one? This one took the cake.

It was cartoonish how a dragon was lifted and flipped to the other side. So cartoonish, in fact, it blew Jullanar out of the dragon's body just when the hit landed.

"Damn!"

Nurina was unable to believe what she saw, but she was fast enough to cast a spell on Jullanar to teleport her out of impact range. Funny enough, Jullanar was still topless from the time she was fighting the dragon.

Under his hand, the dragon which Jullanar possessed so far was killed so effectively it felt like he was just twisting the neck of a chicken, and as the dragon was murdered so ruthlessly, its soul was immediately absorbed by the menacing dragon slayer.

"NO! NOT MY DRAGGY BOO!"

Yet just as Jullanar so tragically called, the Dragonborn turned, and the two Dunmeri ladies found themselves face to face with a madman on an autopilot of pure reflexive destruction.

"Sooo... are we runnin' now or what!"

"Watch out!"

Just as Nurina was about to warn Jullanar, the latter felt a huge shadow covering her, and just as she was going to turn, she felt the air pressure shift as a gold-scaled fist was descending to flatten her face.

But with unreal flexibility, Jullanar evaded the punch and moved like a professional boxer to the side of Jon, delivering three consecutive punches to Jon's side; however, her fists were reddened as if she were punching a stone wall.

"Damn! He is tough! What are these scales made of? Dragons!"

Jullanar was stunned for a second, which gave the Dragonborn all the time to almost land a punch, but Nurina was there to make a strong ward that saved Jullanar's pretty face. Still, the force of the attack blew Jullanar a few metres back, and she landed head first in the dirt.

Now the Dragonborn realised that Nurina's threat is greater than Jullanar's. He moved a single step that covered more than 40 feet in a split second, and now Nurina was the target of his mighty punch. However, just as his punch landed, it went through Nurina, and her image faded into nothingness.

The Dragonborn turned around immediately for Nurina, who wasn't even 10 feet away, and attempted to strike again, but his hand didn't move. Looking at it, it was chained to the ground by a magical conjuration. Sadly, that wasn't going to stop him, as he brute-forced his way out and was immediately out of these chains.

He tried to strike Nurina one more time, but she eluded him again and appeared in a different place, casting many illusions and mirages that even his draconian sight couldn't tell whether they were real or not. For that, he unleashed a powerful shock wave that blew everything away within a radius of 20 feet as he roared to the heavens.

But that was his undoing and the gap Nurina was aiming for.

"You're 200 years too young to play with mommy, kid!"

Nurina appeared right behind Jon, but her appearance was somewhat different from the usual. Her eyes were completely black, and many dark veins appeared on her face and neck. She held Jon from the sides of his head, and the "Chaos Infection" immediately invaded the invulnerable dragon scales.

Even the Chaos Infection wouldn't be able to break such scales, as it dynamically worked alongside different concepts, and so Nurina didn't even attempt to break the scales; she just reached out to the Chaos Infection within Jon.

Just a second was enough, and the Dragonborn became completely inactive.

A few seconds later, the sharp scales growing from his body started to shrink slowly and became less sharp. Finally, his face was revealed under the scales, and gradually, his head and red hair appeared.

The Chaos Infection was flowing through his mystical tattoos, which, unlike Nurina's, were made by Beth to flow through his entire body and protected him from its severe side effects.

As Nurina's stamina was depleted by her use of chaos, she collapsed on her knees as the infection started to recede. Jon also fell to his knees and seemed to be in a bad way mentally, as he kept muttering things to himself.

"Jon!"

"Nurina!"

Nurina inquired, steadying herself as she rose to meet his gaze, but he appeared troubled and unfocused.

"What is wrong?" she asked.

"I… I don't know!" he said and met her gaze, "I think I opened too many gates too quickly!"

"What? I don't understand!"

"Joy, Love, Craft, Mercy, Pleasure… and even Dragon. I opened six gates, Nurina. I feel like… slipping!"

"I don't really get it! Explain to me!"

Jon closed his eyes and calmed himself down slowly. Even if he explained, she could not understand.

No one can.

He is almost CHIM, and it is freaking him out.

If he reaches it now without Amaranth, he will be in huge trouble; he might even lose himself completely.

He looked at his body, which was mostly covered in golden scales, and saw the dragons that he had killed. The more he fights, the more he gets stronger. Any more fights like this, and he will open the last two gates… Heaven and Death.

Should he do so, the World will surely retaliate.

After all, the Dream doesn't tolerate CHIM, and it is not something he can speak about.

"Jon!"

"Forget it. I'll be alright!"

"But…!"

"Believe me!"

He said in a frustrated voice and stood up, helping Nurina along with him.

The two calmed down slowly, Jon trying to find peace in the fact that he still has time, and Nurina by trusting Jon.

"Ahem! Did ya forget someone? Naked, loud, and devastatingly adorable!"

Jullanar emerged from wherever she was tossed earlier with a face full of dirt and a grin wide with confidence.

Jon turned to her and smiled gently:

"Looking good, Jull!"

"That's my Jonny!"

She immediately hugged him and enjoyed every second of it before remembering something and looking at him mischievously:

"Oh! And by the way. Real smooth, loverboy. Knockin' her up? You're sooo screwed!"

"Huh!" Jon didn't seem to understand, which was reflected in his expression.

"Oh dear!" Nurina covered her face and let out a sigh.

"Something wrong!" Jon asked.

"Well, aside from coming to check on you…!"

Nurina tried to smooth it for him, but Jullanar just rammed it in.

"Haha! Look at you! Really crazy moves lately. But hey, who knew irresponsibility could be so... reproductive!" she said and laughed maniacally, "Congrats, champ—you're gonna be a daddy!"
