Chapter 172 - The Reselection VIII - The Challengers: Part 5

"Hmm, is everything okay?" The president asked with concern as she woke up and gazed at Calvin, while also swiftly scanning the school to make sure nothing was wrong.

"Yes, President, everything's running smoothly—well, except for that tiny blunder earlier. But on a more serious note, the crowd and those watching at home are dying to know: who do you think is going to come out on top between Rin and Isaac?"

"Oh... um, if I had to choose, it would be Isaac, even though Rin is the fan-favored champion of the match. But then again, who knows, for the future could always change," she said mysteriously with a giggle as she waved at a nearby camera and blew a kiss.

'Even though there's a high chance it won't, and Rin will be the one to lose,' thought Olivia.

Setting off a chain reaction throughout the audience of roaring fans, who each clutched their hearts and passed out from delightful delusions like dominoes.

"It seems I still got it," Olivia muttered to herself with a triumphant smile as Calvin shook his head in disbelief at the antics of his boss.

"While unexpected folks, let's return to the match at hand and witness who the true champion will be!" The announcer commented as he shifted his focus back to Rin and Isaac's fight.

***

Coincidentally, as that occurred, Rin and Isaac's attacks collided in the middle of the arena.

"Dance of Hell: Code I - Bloody Mary!" Rin shouted as he swung Scarlet three times, unleashing a trio of red ghosts that pounced upon Isaac like starving wolves.

Yet, before they could reach Isaac and rip him into shreds, Isaac just calmly shouted, "Sand Coffin of a Thousand Blades!"

Bringing forth a sea of sand that surged toward Rin and transformed into a swirling cyclone of daggers, which were the size of butterfly wings midway. That destroyed Rin's attack like nothing before engulfing him and trapping him in a storm of sand blades. Which formed a cocoon around that, then transformed into a coffin.

"And with that, I won," Isaac said as he clasped his hands in victory.

***

"What the fuck just happened?!" The announcer muttered with disbelief and confusion at the recent turn of events.

A sentiment shared by the shocked audience and even the judges, as no one expected Rin's attack to be so weak, nor for him to be in such a state, following Isaac's attack. Besides the President, who just stayed silent as if she expected such a result.

***

"Fuck," Rin muttered with irritation as he tried to break free of Isaac's attack, yet nothing he did worked due to Isaac applying the concept of erosion into his attack.

A rare and difficult concept to comprehend, which can be a tricky thing to combat and defend once mastered. Nevertheless, as Rin's defenses gradually grew weaker and injuries piled up, the longer he stayed within the coffin.

Following the barrage attacks, it seemed as if a lightbulb went off in his head out of nowhere as a devious grin formed on his face. While blood stained his clothes, sand burned his skin, and the chuckle of a demon escaped from his lips briefly as it was time to set his plan in motion.

***

A few moments later...

As the sandstorm vanished, a weakened and injured Rin fell to the ground with a thud before trying his utmost to stand up. However, no matter how much he tried, he couldn't get up, lowering the audience's expectation of his once-easy victory over Isaac.

Tip. Tap. Tip. Tap. Tip. Tap.

"So, this is it, huh?" Isaac muttered with disappointment as he strolled toward Rin at a brisk pace, before a smile bloomed on his face as he began to laugh with glee.

"What do you want, Isaac?"

"Nothing much, I just wondered if a nuisance such as yourself ever suspected that this may be your end? And if the word 'defeat' was ever in your vocabulary?" Isaac whispered as he crouched down and gazed at Rin.

Who just smiled and spat a glob of blood and mucus at Issac's face, "Go to Hell, Bitch!"

Slap! Swoosh! Thud!

"Rin, while I respect you as an opponent, don't take my kindness for granted." He said coldly after swatting Rin away like a fly and retrieving a handkerchief from his spatial ring to clean his hand.

***

"Damn, that got to hurt, shit!" An audience member said with a flinch as he could only manage how Rin felt in that moment.

"You can say that again, pal," A chubby guy beside him replied as he munched on a bag of chips, while gazing at Rin with curiosity. 'Just what are you planning, old friend?'

***

'... sigh, while not expected, it's about time to end this fight,' Rin thought as he started to whisper an incantation just as Isaac began to approach him with his sword trailing behind him as it sliced through the floor.

"Arise! Oh, Dragon of Destruction, Catastrophe of Worlds, and Guardian of Soul! Heed my command and engulf my enemy in the fires of Jakal! May his suffering bring you happiness and joy as ashes fall and sulfur engulfs his soul for eternity!"

Which he completed just in time before Isaac could swing his sword down and chop his head off.

"Sorry, pal, but this is checkmate," Rin smirked as he suddenly stood up and caught Isaac's sword with his bare hand, while the injuries on his body began to disappear.

Catching Isaac off guard, as he briefly froze in shock before jumping back and leaving his sword behind.

"Tsk, while smart. You already lost, Rin, so give up and say the magic words!" screamed Isaac as he gazed at Rin, who was looking as if he were a dead man.

"Sorry, but I can't do that," Rin said. "However, I would advise you to run, Isaac, before it's too late."

"Pfft, as if I'd listen to the commands of you." He laughed before glancing at the sky in horror.

Crack! Crack! Crack! Boom! Roar!

Which had begun to crack like a plate that had slipped from someone's hand, fallen to the ground, and broken into pieces. Revealing a starry sky to the audience, or as others would call it, the sky above, however, if one looked closely, they would be able to notice an apocalyptic world right behind it.

A world of fire and destruction, where ancient dragons roamed and demons made from lava, molten rock, and volcanic ash caused mayhem wherever they went.

Yet, as Isaac and the audience continued to wonder what was going on, the firmament began to darken as the head of a Volcanic Dragon appeared from the void and stared at Rin ferociously.

"Are you the being that summoned?" The dragon asked with a roar as it unleashed its domain, causing everything within a 10-mile radius to catch on fire as time came to a halt momentarily for everyone except Rin and Isaac.

"Yes, so could you now do your job and kill this nuisance?" Rin stated calmly without breaking eye contact with the dragon as he pointed at Isaac, who was profusely sweating as he slowly backed away from Rin.

"Tsk, for a brat, you sure have some nerve to be bossing me around," The dragon scoffed as it transformed into its humanoid form and appeared before Rin in the blink of an eye.

"Just grab your meal and go," Rin frowned as he was starting to get ticked off.

However, before Isaac could get away, the dragon suddenly grabbed him and threw him into the void, which was connected to his world temporarily.

"Guffaw! Because of our contract, I will ignore that attitude of yours, kid," The dragon laughed as it glanced at Rin one last time before getting serious out of nowhere.

"Kid, I'd advise you hurry up and grow, for the World is approaching its end, and someone of your standing shouldn't be playing in the little leagues."

It said before taking off into the sky and disappearing into the void as the sky began to close.

***

Sizzle. Sizzle. Sizzle.

"Finally, it's over," Rin muttered as he gazed at the ground and began to think about what the dragon had said before it left with Isaac.

However, that will have to wait until later, as the three judges and the announcer appeared before him.
