Chapter 20 - questions

Ace stared at Maya with wide eyes. He was beyond confused. How did she go mute again? "What happened?" Maya shrugged her shoulders before looking away. Ace grabbed her chin, gently forcing her to look at him. "This isn't your fault, amor," Ace was being genuine when he told said this. He had a small suspicion as to why her voice randomly disappeared again. Yet, he didn't want to jump to any conclusions until a few of his questions were answered. "Did this start after you rejected me?" Ace's was low, trying not to come out too strong.

Maya nodded her head with a guilty expression plastered on her face. Ace sighed as he slipped his hand away from her chin. Maya stared at Ace as he groaned in annoyance while tugging on his hair. "Okay," Ace croaked out. "We need to get to work, and fast."

Zac burst through Ace's front door with Hazel trailing closely behind. "Ace! Where the hell is she?" Hazel screamed.

Maya jumped from upstairs, startled by the sudden outburst. Ace sighed in annoyance, "You ran away?" he asked with his back turned towards Maya. Quickly changing into a pair of Ace's sweatpants, Maya stuck her hand in front of his face, giving him a thumbs up. Ace release a faint growl that turned into a whine. "They're going to think that I kidnapped you." Maya giggled at Ace. She hurried downstairs when she heard Hazel scream again.

Once Hazel saw Maya descending down the stairs, she rushed towards her. Hazel trapped Maya in a bone-crushing hug making Maya gasp slightly for air. Maya tapped on Hazel's shoulder, telling her to release her. Hazel muttered an apology and let go of Maya who inhaled an exceptional amount of air. "What did he do to you?" Hazel asked, worry laced in her voice.

Maya shook her head with a small smile, trying her best to assure Hazel that everything was fine. Hazel sighed in relief. Ace was finally noticed coming down the stairs. Hazel protectively wrapped her arm around Maya's shoulder. Ace chuckled at the younger female. "No need. I wouldn't hurt her," Ace conformed.

Hazel still seemed uneasy. Ace turned to look at Zac. "Ah. The traitor is here. Welcome back," Ace snapped sarcastically. Zac grit his teeth as he looked away, trying not to make a big scene. Ace stopped when he was directly in front of Maya and Hazel. Hazel forced Maya to take a step back. Ace tilted his head, as his eyes were locked on Maya. The person who mattered in this room. Her.

Maya moved Hazel's arm from off of her shoulder. Hazel looked genuinely confused when Maya walked over to Ace. Ace patted Maya's head with a soft smile on his face. "What the hell is going on here? What have you done to her?" Hazel's outburst caught everyone off guard.

Ace growled when Hazel advanced towards them. Zac was quick to make a move and stop her. "What's wrong with you?!" Zac yelled at her. "You cannot just attack a werewolf!" Hazel looked shocked at Zac's words. Maya winced every time Zac spoke. She wasn't used to him behaving this way, no one was.

"Okay, okay. You have questions. Ask and I'll do my best to answer," Ace spoke up. Ace knew that Zac wasn't the type to lash out for no reason. He had to be stressed and Ace could understand why. Zac was trying to balance playing team Charlie without hurting Charlie. Being a rogue wolf, you're torn from all rights to knowing about the majority of the things that happen in the supernatural world, this way it's harder to fend for themselves. Zac knew what was going on, or at least had an idea and Ace knew that.

Zac gave Hazel a questioning look. She nodded her head, telling him that she wouldn't lash out again. They all moved to the living room. Sitting down, Maya sat beside Ace as she was needed to answer some of the questions. Zac sat beside Hazel, making sure that anything that came out of Ace's mouth didn't send her flying across the living room, trying to fight him.

Ace motioned for them to ask any questions. Hazel cleared her throat, "Why is she here?"

"She came here on her own will, I had no idea she was even coming," Ace answered honestly. Maya nodded in agreement. Hazel and Zac were both shocked beyond words. Why would Maya come to Ace? She was in love with Charlie. Wasn't she?

After asking a few more questions, Hazel finally noticed it. Maya wasn't talking. "Hey, My. Say something," Maya turned to look at Ace with a nervous expression which just made Hazel all the more curious. "She can't," Ace said as he stared back at Maya. "The rejection caused her to lose her voice again."

Zac and Hazel sat their completely shocked. "And if I'm correct, there's going to be more to come," Ace continued catching everyone's attention. "Maya isn't human, but she isn't a wolf either. So of course the way her body responds is completely out of our control, unless the mark is completely removed."

"We've never done something like that before. There isn't anything recorded to be done before," Zac cut in. Ace nodded in agreement.

"Plus, why would we have to remove the mark?" Hazel asked.

Zac sighed. "Because it's worse on the body than a formal rejection, especially because she was marked by another before she actually rejected Ace," Zac explaination left no room for questions. Maya looked guilty. Granted she did this to herself, she felt bad for maing everyone go crazy trying to help her. Maya's skin heated up when she felt Ace's hand on her knee. The warmth from his hand ignited her entire body. Her body still craved him like it did before she rejected him. When they were actually something.

Goosebumps rose all over her skin as a light shiver trailed down her spine and back up. Maya looked up at Ace who eyes were locked on Zac as they discussed something. Maya couldn't focus on the words that came out of either of their mouths. The only thing that she could focus on was Ace. His presence was enough to make her weak in the knees, but his touch completely melted her.

Why did she ever leave Ace? Because she didn't like the jealousy? No, she never cared if someone was jealous. Was it the reaction that followed? Maybe. Maya hated when people acted on something through emotion rather than reason. But isn't that what she did? Didn't she leave Ace because he had upset her. Didn't she go with Charlie because it took Ace too long to come to her?

Maya's head was spinning. She never actually sat down and reasoned with what she was doing. She was pissed at Ace, and Charlie was there. Charlie is always there. Maya loved that, and because of a moment of weakness she caved and let Charlie in.

She never wanted to leave Ace. It was never the intention. She mistook her love for Charlie as a friend mixed with the fear of losing him as being in love with him, but she never was. She never has thought of Charlie as something more then a friend. A best friend. He was her rock, but that's all. If she loved him the way she thought she did why didn't she respond to his confession the first time?

"Maya," Ace called out to her. Maya snapped out of her nasty thoughts and focused her eyes on Ace. "You alright?" Ace sounded genuinely concerned. Maya nodded her head before resting her head on his shoulder. Hazel watched with wide eyes. Is this what Maya wanted? Ace? Maya wanted Ace?

"We are all fuck if Charlie finds out," Hazel mumbled.

Too late.
