Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Real

Hunter sat up the moment the door clicked.

I wish you'd stayed.

It was the lone thought trailing through his mind, weaving into the half-dream haze still fogging his head. The black satin sheets were cold on one side now—Stacey's side.

That hurt more than he wanted to admit.

He was hoping they could get some breakfast.

He agreed to move in at least.

He pressed the heel of his palm to his chest, right over his heart. There was that dull throb he was used to, slightly stronger then before. A slow thrum of venom curling beneath his ribs, whispering warnings.

His veins had been too quiet, they weren't anymore, it was like with the morning, with Stacey's leaving they were warming up.

The mark must've cooled again. He could feel it.

Hunter exhaled, a sharp breath through his teeth. He rubbed his face, dragging his fingers down his cheeks, over his mouth, like he could wipe away the crack in his composure before it split him wide open.
