Chapter 16 - Afternoon

After Mason's sudden removal as the head doctor, Queen Seo-Yeon informed the whole castle of his dismissal including Dunha. As a result, she was in a good mood and was currently sitting at her desk and drew a line in the middle of the name, Mason Archivo.

The other servants in the castles were also in a good mood after hearing about Mason's dismissal as they never liked his arrogant attitude.

"That's one enemy off my list." Dunha hummed. "Yet, there's still many more to go..."

Throughout her first life, Dunha had made many allies and enemies, however, in the end, she had more enemies than allies.

So this time, she intended to reduce the number of enemies by any means necessary.

"However, it's not going to be easy as some of my enemies are not within the kingdom which prevents me from doing anything to them. I should be cautious until I gather enough strength to properly wield a weapon." Dunha thought. "Fortunately for me, Mason wasn't really much of a threat but rather a nuisance."

In my first life, Mason served the royal family for another several years before resigning. I only later found out about his illegal deals with the black market people in the capital through an anonymous letter shortly after my father's death.

Although he's only illegally selling those potions right now, he'll eventually get involved in the Azidahakian slave trades as well before getting caught. I can't even imagine the number of people who had their lives ruined because of him...

"Although he's not involved in the slave trade yet, it's better to dispose of him right now when he's still weak." Dunha thought. "Also, I don't want to be with him for another several more years."

However, she did not feel completely relieved yet, as the attack from this morning was still lingering in her head.

"Mason Archivo wasn't the one who sent those assassins, he may be a prick but he isn't crazy enough to plan an assassination while making illegal deals with the black market at the same time... Then who was it?" Dunha wondered. "Perhaps it's one of the supporters of the previous kings?"

After the end of Henry's Uprising in 1754 P.D, many of the 4th king's loyalists who did not surrender before the old king's death were either executed, imprisoned, or stripped of their power. The few loyalists who escaped the capital during the purge fled back to their territories to either prepare a last stand against the new king or flee the country with their riches and families.

"It wouldn't be weird if they were the ones who sent those assassins to get revenge on my father. They know my father deeply loves my mother, which means they also know that he'll be greatly devastated if she dies and they weren't wrong about that..." she thought. "I remember when my mother passed away, my father fell into a deep depression for a long time."

Dunha shook her head to not remember what happened in the past.

"Stop reminding yourself about the past!" Dunha shouted internally.

This life will be different. With Mason gone, the head doctor's seat is currently empty. If we find a more competent and skilled person then saving my mother's life might just become a reality.

"Honestly... I still can't understand why my father would choose that prick as the head doctor in the first place..." Dunha mumbled before shutting her mouth with her hands.

Crap! I almost forgot that I'm currently a pure five-year-old child! It'll be really bad if someone heard me swear right now!

Dunha looked around and saw nobody in her room and ran towards the door. She then opened it and looked around and saw two guards standing in front of her.

"Is there something wrong, princess?" one of the guards asked as they noticed Dunha opening the door.

Dunha shook her head.

"No, but did you hear what I said?" Dunha asked.

"No, princess. The room behind us is nearly soundproof," the guard answered.

"I see..." said Dunha as she sighed in relief.

"If the princess requires assistance, we coul..."

"It's okay! Thank Kyu!" Dunha interrupted.

She then closed the door. The guard whom Dunha said thank you to, stood there and began to smile.

"The princess thanked me... Her smile was adorable..." the guard mumbled.

The guard next to him looked at him with a concerned face.

"Misha... Do you know what Law 12 of page 1 is about?" the concerned man asked.

"Hm? Of course," said Misha. "It said that any sort of inappropriate actions towards a child under the age of 16 is forbi... Hold on..."

Misha realized what he was trying to say.

"Those who break this law must be severely punished," said the man as he glared at the other guard.

"Oi, oi! That's not what I meant!"

🔸🔸🔸

"Hmm? Is someone fighting outside?" Dunha wondered.

Dunha heard the two guards arguing outside but decided to ignore it.

🔸🔸🔸(Meanwhile)

Queen Seo-Yeon was writing something on a piece of paper. She then heard the door open in front of her. It was Blue.

"I subdued him and the guards took him to the underground facility. Estrella's now asking what does her highness wants to know from him," said Blue.

Seo-Yeon nodded and smiled.

"Ask him about the foreign merchants. If we can find these people and capture them, we could interrogate them and find out where they are selling these potions at," said Seo-Yeon.

"Aye. They've been a nuisance to us for the past few years. Although we've been able to locate some of their business areas and put an end to it, it's still not enough."

"Don't worry. They will be dealt with soon enough," said Seo-Yeon.

Before their conversation could continue, somebody knocked on the door.

"Come in," said Seo-Yeon.

It was revealed to be Charles.

"Your highness," said Charles as he bowed his head.

"What is it?" Seo-Yeon asked.

"His majesty has returned from his hunt," Charles answered.

"Oh my. Darling has returned~!"

The queen's calm face changed to a completely happy one as she blushed.

"..."

Blue stared at the queen as if he saw a completely different person.

Notes: The Star Kingdom and the Vindoria Kingdom's relationship [1760 P.D]

The Vindoria Kingdom and the Star Kingdom were on bad terms for generations due to the Vindorian invasion of Star (1630 P.D). The first king of the Star Kingdom, Gregory Star, and his army eventually managed to repel the invaders and chase them back to their kingdom. However, despite their victory, both sides suffered massive casualties which caused the Starian population to hold a grudge against them for the next few decades.

The two kingdom's relationship slowly began to recover as time went on and by the time, Dunha Star was born, hostilities between the two cooled down significantly.

However, although both kingdoms are currently neutral with each other, there are still some people from the Star Kingdom who resents the Vindorians.
