The wall stood ten meters of tempered dark metal above the yard, catching the late afternoon light along every seam where the transformation had folded old ironwood into something harder, and it still didn't feel like enough.
I knew that wasn't rational. I'd built defenses my whole time in this body around the principle that enough was a moving target, never a fixed number, and I knew it anyway. Some worries didn't care how much sense they made.
Below me, the whole width of the clearing had turned into a working forge of preparation.
