Black Moon Territory, The Tree Line,
Janetta's POV
Salza was dropping her guard. Watching from the eastern wall, the whole shape of the disaster opened up below me, stripped of the chaotic noise drowning out the ground level.
The lead bear had figured her out. Every strike Salza landed now cost her skin. She was a half-second slow on the pivot, missing a step she couldn't recover before the creature's massive claws tore fresh, white grooves across her dark exoskeleton.
She was bleeding venom, her mandibles clicking in sharp, breathless hitching sounds.

They weren't fighting with animal panic. They shifted in perfect, but eerie coordination, instantly plugging the gaps every time the archers dropped a row of them from the battlements.
